  • @gegot1 hahahaha / HE WRITES HALF OF THEIR SONGS ! // hALF OF notHING IS sTILL nothing YOU dOuche BAG

  • @redwingchief Are you dumb? He writes half of their songs and if he does wanna be a rockstar why would he be in a newfie folk band?

  • sean mcann wants to be a SUPERSTAR / HAHAHA / write a song first sean you douch

  • I cannot find this to download :(

  • alan doyle sounds like a muppet, imagine if he could actually sing , what a fuss he'd have about himself.

  • @redwingchief haha. nice comment gonzo! I love alan's singing too!

  • alan's so cute

  • I'm a sailor and I approve of GBS and this song in particular.

  • God I love this song.

The b'ys know how to put on a performance.

  • I love them so much saw them live in concert yesterday!

  • My favorite GBS tune of all time.

  • @Mileneum69 it truly is one of their best

  • Alan's my favourite of Great Big Sea's vocals. His takes on "Gideon Brown", "Barque in the Harbour" and "Sea of No Cares" are among their best songs.

  • I love that Alan's accent doesn't come through at all when he sings, but it's thick as anything when he speaks.

  • @SkilzMilz I think that depends on the song when he since Exscusion Around The Bay & says the word Ocean you can clearly tell his accent. But yes when he speaks its charming & when he sings its heavenly

  • only GBS would bugger each other up on a live song. love these guys. they are the song you play when yer doin housework cause it 'll go way faster. and annoy the neighbours no end.

  • for real I have seen Sean play the gutair, rolling flute & drum is there anything he can't play?

  • there so great

  • they played this at wolftrap on the 22nd

AWESOME CONCERT they had NO opening.

  • I like their more traditional songs best. Im not much a fan of country music so the others don't interest me much.

It always amazes me when Im at a party with my buddies from back home.......the first thing that comes out of someones drunken mouth is the old black rum, or patty murphy....lol.

These are the versionsof the traditional songs of our generation, and I am truely greatful to great big sea for giving them a modern twist and keeping them alive!

  • What was the flute-shaped instrument called? The guy with the long pale hair who played it and had another thing he shook with his hands

  • @Bouncyheart its called a tin whistle

  • @Bouncyheart It's called many things... the pennywhistle, tin whistle, Irish whistle... ir just plain "whistle" :)

  • This concert was amazing the harmonies in the vocals were incredible! its hard to believ that this was a live show! Great big sea is truly a great band!

  • gbs all ways sing the best songs i love this group thanx for posting this

  • @slacker121234 i one day also want to visit forglore island newfoundland

  • Fogo island

  • hahahahahahahaha my name is Gideon

  • Another great Song written by Frank Dwyer of Fogo Island

  • Another great Song written by Frank Dwyer of Fogo Island

  • these guys are cool.

  • sigh. what a beautiful song. i wish there was some way i could learn to play that on my whistle. besides by ear, that is ;-)

  • ooooh, i live in novascotia but i was born in newfoundland and i go there all the time, incredible, there is nothing like it!

  • I've always loved this song. An inspiring story behind lyrics, by one of Canada's most talanted Artists. :)

  • Because, i'd fucking kill for my own boat. It would be so fucking awesome. ^_^

  • defenestrator12@ Yes there sing about a boat but listen to it, listen to the story. Haven't u ever wanted something so bad.

  • @defenestrator12 You don`t understand it. Go grow up in Atlantic Canada, eh?

  • @defenestrator12 Because the sea can touch people.

  • You know the song "Long May You Run" by Neil Young? Think it's any good? It's about a car.

  • Wow...a lot of negative comments...did people think I was bashing one of my favorite bands? I meant that they could take a subject that might seem like it only mattered to, for example, people who 'grew up in Atlantic Canada' (papiervampire) and produce a song that is awesome, and which touches people from all walks of life.

@Wibble: don't know that one, but Springsteen wrote a lot about cars, for perhaps the same reason; you make a good point.

  • @defenestrator12

    because GBS is awsome

  • @GodHatesDonkeys

    Dude! That's what I'm saying!!

  • @defenestrator12

i didnt say that to insult you. i said that to agree with you.

im not a big boater... i dont even own one. but this is a song about a boat and GBS made boats awsome.

  • Great Big Sea!! Kick ass!!

  • I wish I had a boat like Gideon Brown. Man these guys are great.

  • Sounds even better live.

  • They played in Joplin Missouri at MSSU on October 5-2009. Never even heard of them before but I'm now a huge fan.Incredible live show. First rate people.

  • I was there as well... shame they got angry at Joplin... (day after the show, one of them went to the mall and tried to pay with a Canadian Credit Card, which evidently doesn't have a Magnetic strip, and got disrespected by check-out person). I may have gotten the story wrong, if you know about the story, fill it in.

  • I think what happened was that he was asked for his zip code and the clerk didn't understand that Canadians have postal codes not zip codes.

  • saw them in Milwaukee last night.... <3 them!

  • Bloomington show last night was amazing as well. No Gideon Brown but some awesome songs both old and very new!

  • I love this song so much...

I saw them live just hours ago. They sang this song. I teared up at the end, even though I've heard it lots already.

  • Ho was Gideon Brown?

  • Its the name of the boat.

  • Its not the name of the Boat, its the Boat Owner.

"Old Gideon lived across the bay, he's getting older now, his boat is big and strong and bold, she has a starward bow. "

In the chorus, they get a little lazy, but they should be saying, "a boat like Gideon Brown's. "

  • @Hoursunend no it's the name of the guy who owned the big nice boat

  • Wonderful song, wonderful band. Would LOVE to see them live someday.

  • I saw them live for the first time last night......it was soooo freaking awesome.....such a fun show

  • Ye me to. Do you know if they are having any live play now days?

  • NFLD technically isn't in the Maritimes, but they do wonders for the Atlantic provinces!

  • This has become one of my favorite song by these guys.

Good Nova Scotioner playing the drums too.

  • i deffinatly loved the version of sea of no cares played on this tour, I like the slower version. IT adds more meaning to the song. Seeing them live next month! Woot!

  • You should post the whole dvd. This is from the hard and easy tour is it not? River Driver is an awesome tune from this as well ;o)

  • The lead singer is a bit like a Newfoundland version of Stevie Ray Vaughan I'd say.

    Anyone agree?
