Yes; very good! This is straight out of the "Little Pro" "swing the handle"; I did a video with this technique called "Golf Pro lesson chicken wing across the line";
I just came back from hitting 3 buckets of balls. Completing a full back swing was KEY. With my butt at the target. I get this floating feeling as Shawn mentions but I start with my hips turning first and my arms go up after after that I'm already on my left side braced and what a feeling. 7 iron 170 and 9 was 150. Just insane. Shawns the best. :)
I read a simalur tip in a magazine based off of surgio and ben hogan. One thing that was pointed out was, the index finger on the right hand was sepperated from the middle finger allowing me to feel the lagging of the club and holding it after setting my wrists. It also allows me to feel exactly where the clubface is hitting through the ball. You are by far, the best teacher I have seen. Thanks for what you do. This helps me complete it.
Something similar happened to me. I read a tip discussing feeling the shaft against the index (trigger) finger on the way down as a way of preserving the shaft angle. I was playing a par 3 with my 6 iron (160 yd club) and tried it. The ball flew off the clubface, very high and about 5 yards of draw, travelling 185 yards. Insane! Next hole, I hit my 3 hybrid (200 yds) and it travelled 225.
Yes; I made the decision a while ago after spending a day with Mike and Andy out of respect; I of course believe I still have the better mouse trap but you can make a case for the work that they have put into their craft; I believe they are a long way from teaching this method with any kind of success to the masses...they are also very busy with the PGA Tour Students they need to cater to every week. There is still a lot to be seen and not to be mean or anything, I think this is a phase. Shawn
no wonder.. i been searching the vid for quite some time.. anyway.. maybe u can come up with another similar vid, as the materials in it are great! lets have a open mind to the S&T! :)
Shawn - I don't get a sense of the club necessarily falling. For me, the added lag occurs when I'm preparing to pull the club shaft through the ball. The preparation is my legs "settling" and a sense of pulling the club through using my right foot for leverage. But no falling sensation. Am I pulling too early? Should I be pulling at all? Chris
You are doing things right and your language is good; it is just in the awareness; have a look at the "Tempo and Timing" video and see how we reset the redline in the swing...Shawn
Shawn - thanks. I've checked the "Tempo and Timing" video out, tried it in the garage and I think I see what you're saying. I've always had difficulty swing at anything less than full speed. I think your drill will help. I'm anxious to try it at the range. Chris
Just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy your videos Shawn, they have helped me alot. Your videos explain exactly what is going on in every part of the golf swing vs. "quick fixes" that usually seem to make every 1 out of 100 shots better.
Just about a week ago I realized the importance and effects of a proper hip turn and club lag, it is amazing what these two things can do for the swing as I'm sure you know.
shawn, i have "played" golf for 20 yrs. I have ALWAYS casted the club and never let the club "fall" like u demonstrate in this clip. You have literally saved my golf life! after your tips, i actually took a divot AFTER hitting an iron for the first time in my life!!! I am a 26 handicap, and i shot 88 after 1 practice session and then playing. Thank you, thank you thank you....
I was wondering if you mention anywhere how the arms and hands might feel in a "lag" type or centrifugal type of swing. Limp as a wet noodle works for me. Dog wagging tail. Also I think it helps to think of swinging the shaft instead of focusing on the clubhead. Your comments about "Target" focus instead of Ball focus are spot on. Of course it helps to keep the tongue in the left cheek while wiggling the right ear.
For some, the wet noodle works great and for others the taut arms are what are required; depends on how strong the player is physically; the tongue in cheek thing works too! :)
In the Feb Golf Magazine,the author of Sergio's swing sequence mentioned that he rotates his left arm during the transition, causing the swing plane to flatten out. I was wondering if that is a good move to copy and if that adds lag. Please help. Thanks a lot!
What makes his left arm appear to flatten out his downswing is the spine tilt change in the transition; you will notice the spine tilt angle is more away from the target than at address; it is this that allows the swing to get "through the ball" and hence allows the lag to stay much longer; watch "Proper spine tilt" and "Braced Tilt part 1 and 2" and then "Through the ball"...All of them are on my "you tube Shawn" page of my website...Great observation and question! Shawn
Hi Shawn, i've had the shanks for 3 years now, i've seen lots of teaching pro's all to no avail, i practice for 3 to 4 hours 3 times a week, sometimes the shank will vanish, then it comes straight back, my swing has got shorter and i've lost distance, my handicap has gone from 9 to 15, i've stopped playing in club competitions through embarassment, i wish i could get my swing back and enjoy golf again, do you have any drills that may help me, thank you in advance for any advice you may give
Very common thing you are asking about here and one that kills confidence and saps enjoyment! The key here is to not focus on the ball at all; to make sure your focus is on the target and on the effortless momentum you are going to send in it's direction. The videos that are the most important are the ones that help in getting your body out of the way of momentum: "Catapult Power", "Arm falling", "One Leg Drill", "Feet Together Drill", "Through the ball", "Distance to the ball" All on my site!
Hi Shawn, i've spent lots of time on the practice ground and i'm making progress, the shanks have gone at last and i'm getting my confidence back, your videos have been a great help to me, thank you very much, keep up the great work...
most are afraid or not qualified to comment on the "stack and tilt" hoopla of late. i wonder if mr clement, with his solid understanding of swing mechanics, cares to comment on it? thanks
imo, 3 things set good players apart from the rest, all of which have been emphasized by mr clement's videos, namely, wrist control management, weight shift management and tempo. of course, one more, possibly the most important,,,the desire to dominate and win:)
excellent instruction, great communicator. if we were in canada, i would consider sending my kid for some sessions. for those interested, take a look of my kid's golf video (for fun) and comment/suggestion is appreciated. best regards.
As always great videos, always love them. You always make difficult concepts very easy to understand.
My comment is very simple. Your profile/channel page. Could you please change the color scheme. Blue text on green background..oh so hard on the eyes.
In your dvd, you said that some of us will have to stand closer to the ball because we don't have the flexibility to get our right elbow in front of our right hip. I notice that professionals who get the elbow in front have tremendous lag. Any tips on how to get this flexibility?
i been having a slight problem in transition.. i lift my left heel on back swing.. n replant it as the 1st move down.. however.. i feel that i have the tendency to ooze the clubhead all the way from the top.. and i feel i not able to achieve maximum club speed and contact.. any tips on how to slow down that urge..??
I am not quite sure what you mean; any way to upload your swing so I can look? In the meantime, Check the following videos from my website shawnclementgolf dot com: "Through the Ball", "Sequence Power Dills" help a lot;
I always feel as if I have to turn my wrists and hands over when I try just letting the club drop. In other words it does not feel like the club face will be square
For many golfers at first it will feel this way; it means that you are loosing your anchor on the downswing; Your downswing anchors are: The brace inside the left ankle that in turn keeps the head back behind the ball and this in turn keeps the right heel down and grounded well past impact like Kenny Perry and Scott Verplank;
Shawn, You are probably one of the most underrated instructor our there. I have been playing for 5 years, and since discovering your vids this had been the best season yet.
Now.. You have better ball contact than anyone I have seen, and I am curious to know what distances you hit your clubs?
hey shawn, got another one for ya! dont think this one is quite as good tho :) its basically your one leg drill, but try it by taking your right leg of the ground totally. you kinda fold your right leg upwards off the ground, and it becomes your counterweight, as well as your backside. try it out. hope you like it. jordan

Must be great having a basement big enough to hold a golf catch net. IF I had that facility i'd lower my handicap to almost par within a year i bet.

Shawn,
Do you think sticking having a plastic rod, say 12-15 inches, sticking out from the butt end of the club will help with "lag"?
I was thinking it would force your hands to lead through the ball to the target. If you don't the rod would hit the body.

Don't try to hit it too far, if you hit a sandwedge or a 9 very long you may be topping it a little.
