  • for only 5 bucks, it cant hurt. Sure, its not durable, but neither are any of the other electronic devices you use daily. Also, its most likely a good sign that you could only find 2 complaints from users. At the end of the day, if you already use paypal, its better to have one of these than to not have one.

  • @aradioactivedonut

LOL, it's a failed viral advertising gadget IMO. Nothing more. If it was safe they would give it away the same way they gave 5 bucks for signing on long ago.

Carole Reynolds, senior lawyer/FTC states: "The strongest protections are when you pay by credit card"

At the end of the day, Paypal is a barrier between you & your rights as consumer or merchant.

Read that PP ToS carefully! It's a comedy!

How safe is it keeping the paypal - iTunes hacking epidemic victims?

    roflmao

  • Hey Capp I just saw the funniest thing. A major, household name credit card company has a new online payment service commercial. They disrespected the paypal 21 day holds by mentioning that you'll get paid 3 weeks quicker than 'others' with no games and real customer service. ROTFLMAO!

  • @GoodbyeEbay

I think I saw the one you mean. There was some articles recently about credit card companies getting more involved in online payments. At least they probably have some rules they follow, unlike paypal eg;the way paypal operates outside and/or ignores the various state's money-transmitter license terms.

Maybe posting this one will "unglitch" it lol

  • @cappnonymous

    I see what you mean.

  • While I do not doubt that it may not be the best seurity measure they could come up with, is it not worth it if you use paypal a lot and the fob is only $5? I think it would only be not worth getting if it made things worse and not better.

  • Hello kieranmullen.

    Thanks for watching & commenting.

Payapl's TOS and policies, along with their customer service are far more dangerous than hackers. The TOS was changed about 60-70 times inside a couple month's period in 2009. Sound normal?

Read sections 10 and 14 of the PP User Agreement. It is loaded with slippery slimy weasel words.

Hackers are the sharks in the water. PP user agreement is holes in your flimsy boat. ebay is a whirlpool. PP-ebay customer service is Gilligan on crack.

  • Looks like someone must not really know too much about Paypal or how they operate if they don't know anything about those 21 day holds or rolling reserves, huh?

On second thought, could be just someone telling lies.

Who, or should I say 'what', do we know that tells lots of lies?

Plus I see good ol reliable paypal went down for the count a couple days back. Again.

  • I smell PP-eb's MO alright. Ignore what is in front of them.

    Change the subject.

    Blame the user/victim.

    Insult them.

    Call them derogatory names.

Just think, they laid off x number of real employees, kept the trolls and stalkers.

We all see it everyday, everytime we look anywhere there is "noise".

    A very transparent ruse.

Too funny. That is an element of the criminal nature of this scandalous outfit.

    Thanks again GBE

  • Hello again SBITSdotBiz.

The video contains 100% verifiable factual information.

As you can see, the supporting URLs are all there.

    Have A Nice Day.

  • Hello SBITSdotBiz.

    Thnx 4 wtchng

There are an abundance of other reasons why paypal is a poor choice. Did u watch the vid?

What sort of outfit LIES to their users about critical safety flaws, while blaming and belittling them for 2 whole years?

Not to mention the poor excuse for service, the canned email, the nearly literal barbwire surrounded, mine-filled no-man's-land between users & PP supposed "protection" ?

The 21 day holds & "rolling reserves"?

Look around. Paypal is not to be trusted!

Just look at oit this way, as noted in the vid, PP had critical safety flaws for 2 whole years & during that time, they actively attacked & blamed their own users for the fraud rather than disclose it.

Does that strike anyone as an outfit they can trust?

  • It is easier to hack into you conventional bank account than to hack past Paypal's security key.

I'm not saying it can't be done but your money is at no greater risk than accepting a cheque rather than cash payment of your salary.

Now if you go using the same login/password for your paypal account as on a dozen other websites, if those small websites are hacked and the data is mined for access.

Yet so many people use the same username/password for secure and non-secure sites alike.

  • Hello Treblaine. Sorry, but I disagree with that statement.

There are many deficiencies with that key fob,

All documented and easy to find, going back for quite some time... everything from physical reliability to code exploits.

What is shown here is only a small fraction of what I found. PS found more since this vid was posted. rofl :))) Further, if it was so safe, they would give it out free to everyone.

It is a false sense of security, in my opinion.

    Thanks for watching & commenting

  • I too have found the "deficiencies with key fob. All documented + easy to find" The problem is all the stories are extremely vague like "I was using Security Key but STILL my account got hacked"

There's no indication that it was the Security Key was the weak link nor details of what was actually wrong with the Security key.

Most cases seem to be the exploit that hackers pretend to be you who have lost your Security Key, then it relies on security questions only they are too easy to deduce.

  • There is nothing vague about the report cited in thisd video regarding the high degree of physical failures. Why did Paypal select the device with the very lowest ratings? Does that seem like an outfit with your well-being in mind?

There is also nothi n vague about a detailed white paper wherein the soft vulnerabilities and codes are presented at the securityfocus site; exploits(SLASH)21040.c

All one needs to do is open thier eyes to see PP is not safe, secure, nor trustworthy.

  • Continued...

Consumers just need to be aware of everything before they decide to use or to keep using PP. Accounts & ID theft occur everyday. Stolen hacked accounts are readily available for sale, chargeback scams, account freezings, lack of proper investigations-customer service are the norm,

The foibles exposed here are just 1 small facet of PP problems.

Just consider it's your money, your time trouble & hair pulling when you have a problem.

Look around, PP is not your pal.

  • OK, just explain to me in layman's terms how the Pay Pal's Security Key can so easily be bypassed?

That is even if a hacker has absolutely no personal data about me except they know my email address. They STILL need to also figure out my password.

Now explain how this is any more dangerous than regular internet banking or any online transactions.

You did NOT cover that in your video.

  • Viewers might like to read the User Agreement 1st off, especially sect 14. For a good, plain English rendering of that go to screw-paypal com, then click "PayPal TOS Exposed"

To see payPal's explanation of how accounts are being compromised, search & read "eBay: no idea how account was compromised" by Angus Kidman 30 April 2008.

Everyone from PP cheerleaders to noted security experts to ID theft investigators are being hacked!

Wake up! PP is under ownership of the hackers

    LOL!

  • Oh ya, Did you hear the news? NO Ms. Whitman for VP! I was wondering if that was actually going to happen. I say let her be Gov of California though.

    (snicker)

If you look at those insider trades, they also ca$h in YEARS before the options expire... What does that tell you?

    Thanks again.

  • Thanks dfnwiz.

People using Paypal are caught in a squeeze play between hackers, scammers, and the corrupt & reprehensible management/ policies.

You don't have to look too far to realize what the real story is. Remember, back in April they emphatically stated there would be no "paypal only" here in the USA, but haven't they just done that, by banning checks/money orders? Also, it looks as if propay may actually be part of paypal? How's that for being fair & honest?

    Boycott ebay & paypal!

  • No safer here than it was in Australia. Maybe actually less safe, because there are more users here, therefore more potential victims.

BTW, did everyone hear how that big scandal with ebusiness_supplies (EBS) eBay Australia's 7th largest PowerSeller, is turning out in Down Under?

They are giving out courtesy refunds of $0.00 AUD to some folks.

See Red Ink Diary Blog & forums in Australia.

    Unbelievable.

I wonder what eb PP did with their cut?

    Thanks again ebayboycotters

  • Holy shit is anything safe on the internet any more this is proof ebay/paypal are on a nose dive to disaster with a paypal ONLY policy I'm staying the hell away from ebay this holiday those bimbos just won't learn or listen to a dam thing the sellers say....they are Enron Idiots
