back when MTV was decent, nowadays its the Hills and the city and a bunch of fane shit-goodlooking women who do nothing only get their hair and nails done. I remember MTV Europe on Channel 14 on SKy now its all fcuked up. Where is my time machine??
im 47, and ive been through the last 33 years of rockn roll ,whew thats a lot of parties,,the late 70s kicked ass for rock, the80s was change, but still some good stuff, like fine blondie, pat benatar, talking heads, etc, the 90s was anotherboom of downright kickass rock, with ,pumpkins at top of my list! the2000s pretty much sucks..but i have faith somebody out there right now practicing in some dark dingy garage or back room will,,take the reins and blow our minds!..,,,,jb
The early 90's and really the rest of the 90s had 90% of my peers involved in rap crap.I was 15 in 1991 and even in my early childhood going back to the mid-80s,when I'd get home from school in 1985 at 9 yrs old other kids would turn on cartoons while I would turn on MTV or VH1.By the time the 90s rolled around I knew very few people that were into rock-grunge-alternative.All the teens were into low-riders and bass speakers.I will always believe the 80s were the pinnacle for the ROCK industry
The 90's were not all that great, if you were a poor minority living in Los Angeles............gang violence was at an all time high.......It was kind of difficult to really get into the rock scene in my neighborhood.....the rock kids usually were bullied ......althoough, the music i very much enjoyed....well, in secrecy
Every band that was once good went down with the years. The Pumpkins are no exception but every effort they produced was worth listening to. Music started to suck around the late '90s/early 2000s with System of the Down, Blink 182, Limp Bizkit came into the scene. And I think Nirvana paved the way for loud, simple songs with simple chords.
If I could save three things during a fire I would take Siamese Dream, Ten and Nevermind. My three favorite records. All three of them helped me not go completely insane in the 8th grade.
D'arcy talking about how she dances and moves around on stage, what a joke.
I've seen plenty of videos here of live shows and I've never seen one where she doesn't stand still. She always looked like she put in the minimum effort required, she showed up, just stood there, played the songs and that was it.

its cool seeing where billy and the bands mind set is before mellon ccollie and hearing them talk about mcis and all of us watching this knowing how things turned out. inconceible to them at the time
Thier is still great music...its just very little of it is in the mainstream. Post Grunge is THE WORST FUCKING THING to happen to mainstream rock music. I never thought of blaming Bush for it, but I tend to think Creed is the one to blame for really watering shit down.
I mean if certain other 1990S bands like ohh lets say :) STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, SOUNDGARDEN...got back together...ummm what about SMASHING PUMPKINS TOO? :D
I was preping at work this morning, threw in my Gish album and started working. Some stupid chick co-worker came in and said to me that she would rather listen to dieing animals. I told her to fuck off, have you ever heard an electric guitar? But i dont blame her she's what 18 maybe, iv heard her music and its a bunch of stupid pop electric owl city shit. Guess the next generation is over rock-grunge its a sad day.
@TheRandomvidstv Na man that's cool, glad to hear you love the sound. Im not tryin to be a hater just sharing an experience. We need more people like you know recognize artist that made a mark.
My FAV Smashing Pumpkins album is and always will be "Siamese Dream". It's still to this day got some of my FAV songs on it; "Today", "Quiet", "Rocket", and "Soma".
young people don't realize: in the days before nirvana, american life was close to unbearable if you weren't a jock or a cheerleader or whatever. the 80s was the decade of ronald reagan! it SUCKED.
then there was this shift and the dispersed groups of "non-mainstream" teenagers were brought together by music & pop culture: an explosion of creative & social activity. all of a sudden, people like me could get laid!
eventually the record industry infiltrated & ruined it w/shit bands like bush.
@idealtypical I agree and remember. But the post-grunge music (1995 to 1998 I guess) was not as bad as people say, really. Listen again to the Stone temple pilots, Weezer, Bush, Garbage, Foo fighters and Live and you'll discover it wasn't all that bad. Things got ruined when that new wave of boys bands and singing jail baits came up circa 1998.
It's funny. With all of the shit bands out these days, people still take shots at Bush. Don't deny that you bought 16 Stone and Razorblade Suitcase and played 'em 1500 times.
1997 was truly the last good year for rock. Because after that came TRL and that fag Carson Daly...and he brought some boy bands and pop diva sluts with him. The music never really has recovered. We got a couple of decent bands in the meantime, like Incubus....but 99% of it has been pure shit.
@idealtypical I wouldn't call Bush a shit band... Their first album was actually pretty good with songs like 'Alien' and 'Machinehead'. However i do agree that a lot of (i hate this term) Post Grunge bands came out that were/are just... Urgh... Notably Puddle Of Mudd, Nickelback etc... Just ruined the whole Mainstream Alt Rock thing.
yeah the 90's felt like the 60's compared to what it's like now. I just remember there was a feeling of revolution in the air with so many great bands.
i know what you mean about the 90s: there was definitely something in the air. and it's not true that there weren't bad bands, there were a LOT of bad bands, but there were a lot of great ones too, and rock 'n' roll music was finally BACK. suddenly all of the pop shit and hair metal bands were GONE: poof!!! that just made it a really fun time to be alive, especially if you were a teenager, as i was.
*Sigh* modern alternative is horrible.... I mean Kings of Leon? Seriously.... I wish i grew up in the 90's with the Smashing Pumpkins, The Foo Fighters, Green Day, Nirvana.....
I totally agree, there are ood modern alternative bands though listen to The Mars Volta and Biffy Clyro to name a few, they're awesome. But yeah, Kings of Leon and The Killers are shit, early Kings of Leon is awesome but their new album is totally fucking dire.
I was born when they were just recording Gish hehe December 1990, and I met them through my older sister who had bought Mellon Collie in 1996, so Ive been listening to them through out my whole life really hehe.
@radicalsinplanes You're forgetting bands like The Vines, The Strokes, Dinosaur Pile Up, Pulled Apart By Horses, The Hives, (early) Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and loads more dude.
@birdy47 I'm sorry but none of those really stand a chance to SP do they.. I mean Hives do a great performance but they have two good songs. 2! Counts for Strokes too but they're not even good live I think.
@argentaperra No i do like Smashing Pumpkins better but im just trying to make out that we still have good Music. Gotta admit that PABH are BRILL live tho.
@radicalsinplanes uh, i grew up in the 90's and the foo fighters were definitely not a huge part of the scene, kurt had only just died for fucks sake, and it is frankly insulting to list green day with those bands. if you want the sound of the 90's then get some soundgarden, mudhoney, screaming trees, melvins, REM and sonic youth. but for fucks sake do not get pearl jam, for the love of god do not get pearl jam.
@radicalsinplanes The 90's was great. We were having a house party when news came in that Curt Cobain had died. We had an eight foot high poster of him in one of the rooms. Some drunken ass wrote "your dead mate" across his face with a marker pen.
@radicalsinplanes uh....Greenday and Foo Fighters are still around. Plus it doesn't matter what kind of music plays while your growing up, it matters what you listen to.
@radicalsinplanes foo fighters and green day are on the same level as KOL. i'd add the red hot chili peppers, sublime, soundgarden, stone temple pilots, the tea party and living colour
