Well you cant believe that God is the true savior if he isn't saveing you from anything. God wants to save us but he gives us free will, it is our own falts if we dont accept him and his love. Obviously he could let everyone into Heaven if he wanted, after all he runs the place, but if he did we wouldnt have to love and accept him and his teachings. The passage you quoted about everyone kneeling and confessing is true. You'll do that no matter what because when you recognize His glory you must confess it and kneel it awe of it. That doesn't change your eternal dwelling though. Once again, it is sinful that they said you believe in reincarnation if you don't, that's just wrong. With that said, this doctrine is a key teaching of Jesus and must be accepted and taught by church leaders to qualify for the position. Much love brother!

@whatthehellbook Actually no, there is an important difference. They will confess Him as LORD. It is an act of recognition of Jesus' awesome divinity, not His saving work on the cross. Even demons will make that confession. Only those who truly confess Him as Savior here in this life will experience His saving work. Does that make more sense?
when we pit His love against His justice, it makes His love unjust. You can't teach youth if you miss this doctrine as it is key to the Gospel. Jesus spoke about Hell more than anyone else in the Bible. You have to twist too many verses to not believe it. Why did Jesus come to save the lost if there was no point? Why did Jesus have to die under the infinite wrath of God but to satisfy the Father's wrath against sinners? It is too important to mess around with this doctrine
@whatthehellbook You make a good point. The words Jesus used that were translated Hell include Gehenna and Hades. Tartaroo is also used in the NT while the OT typically uses Sheol. Jesus uses Gehenna 11 times in the NT. It was originally used to describe the valley of Hinnom, which is where filth and dead animals were burned. Jesus used it as a place that would foreshadow eternal punishment, as it was outside the city of Zion, where the unclean would go, and where they would be burned with fire
It is obvious that He is not saying that unbelievers will be in that literal place, but in a spiritual one, as He speaks of an unquenchable fire (Mk. 9:43), a place where body and soul are destroyed (Mt. 10:28), as well as eternal (Mt. 18:8). On top of this, Jesus would refer to it without the proper place names by calling it the place of judgement, eternal fire, place of gnashing of teeth, etc. You also have a huge numbers of references in both the NT and OT to this fact. Not to be insensitive, but it was right for them to fire you. You seem like a sincere guy with a lot of the right things, but Hell is an essential doctrine in Christianity. It was wrong for them to lie afterwards that you quit, just not right. We are to love one another, but we are to do that in truth. Paul did that throughout Galatians because there were people twisting the Gospel (he even told the false teachers to emmasculate themselves). We must not prostitute the love of God.

I agree with you. But hell is considered o important because of the beleif that without the threat of hell people won't have the incentive to convert or to stay with the faith. It is entirely for social reasons. Hell isn't about justice. It is about preservaton of the religion.

I think some people who believe in hell don't quite grasp just how strong a word like "eternal" is. Maybe if Christianity believed in some punishment after death I might not mind the idea, but eternal? I believe crimes (sins, transgressions against humanity, whatever you want to call them) deserve punishment. However, I don't feel that any act any human has ever committed, no matter how horrible, is deserving of an eternal punishment. Many may not agree, but that is how I truly feel.
I am an agnostic. I have been for several years now. I personally do not know whether or not there is a god, higher power, etc., but i also do not believe in any religion. When it comes to Christianity i have had my own problems with their beliefs, but most of them I've never had too much of a problem with. That is, except for the concept of hell. I know it's a cliche argument against religion that an all-loving god could not send someone to eternal suffering, but it's one i agree with.

a good question to ask those who believe in heaven and hell is
1st- if they know anyone (family or friends) who is not the same religion as them?
2nd- if their religion is right and they go to heaven, would they possibly be able to enjoy heaven knowing that their friends are being BURNED AND TORTURED even though they were good people?
As a deist I have this to say; people cannot be told that Jesus Christ is the only path to salvation no matter how nicely you say it weither you mention the damnation in hell bit or not. There are other faiths the founding fathers of America acknowledged when they wrote the constitution and it's why we cannot force people do do as we say like that. It can't be done. Personally I feel getting rid of churches while maintaining the actual religions is the way to go but I know that wont happen.

It seems that if he loved us and would forgive us then the sacrifice seems unnecessary and just brutal bloodshed for the sake of bloodshed. He's supposedly omnipotent no? Then why not just forgive...
you need to bring the law into this. your rights as a citizen of the united states has been breached over your beliefs. It doesn't even matter if you are atheist or even sadist, they can't fire you because of your religion. you may think that not pursuing legal action would be better for the church; however what about the next person who gets fired for his beliefs, and the people who are asked not to come for fear of persecution by piers. you have to take a stand here.
I agree, it's a first ammendment issue after all. In the same way the government can intervene in a case where creationists try to put creationism in schools the government can intervene if you had been wrongly treated for your beliefs. In this case it's more likely to be a local government issue than state or federal but the same rule applies.
Sorry, but I agree with some of those below. You knew (or should have known) that your beliefs were different than the congregation you served, and that they would consider those material differences. The only honorable thing to do is resign and find a congregation that believes like you do. Or at least go to the church leaders and offer to resign. I don't get how you think they would want to be paying someone to teach their kids that doesn't believe what they do. Better for both parties.

I'm very surprised that people who claim to be Christian leaders and speakers fired you. Your allowed to believe in whatever you want and express it freely in the church. My church allows free thought and questions. No one should be fired for their beliefs. I think I believe in Hell because I for sure believe in Heaven. @Ibprius A perfect judge would sentence His own creation to an eternity of punishment for 78 short years on Earth? Or for some only 17 years, 23 years, 30 years? What is the cutoff? I guess they would have fired some of the early church fathers too as they didn't believe in "eternal hell" either. I'm not a christian, but just read "Christian Universalism", by Eric Stetson and have to admit he came across as one of the most thoughtful, hopeful people within the church. How would anyone ever enjoy Heaven if they knew their unbelieving loved one was suffering for all eternity in hell? Heaven would become hell, because your love for that person would break your heart every day.
So how can one say that there is a literal heaven but not a literal hell? Doesnt the same bible describe a place of damnation and tormet that also describes a place where god dwells and is supposedly lined with streets of gold and mansions( by the way physical elements can't be sustained in heaven) I mean what kind of creator makes a book for people to follow then allows us to pick and choose. The bible does actually speak of hell, and you do take many of the passages as literal correct? otherwise jesus could be a made up character to show how we should act.. so how then do you say other passages are literal. Eternal punishment doesn't make sense. Neither does only one lifetime to spiritually evolve.
Neither does the belief that the infinite creator of the universe would require destruction of life in mass blood sacrifices, dismemberments and immolations of young bulls and rams, or would require Jesus for a sacrificial victim.
God granted commonsense and that we know for sure. Jesus told the truth, and the keepers of the laws wanted him murdered. The truth is: What he did, we too can do.

The passage you quoted about everyone kneeling and confessing is true. You'll do that no matter what because when you recognize His glory you must confess it and kneel it awe of it. That doesn't change your eternal dwelling though. Once again, it is sinful that they said you believe in reincarnation if you don't, that's just wrong. when we pit His love against His justice, it makes His love unjust. You can't teach youth if you miss this doctrine as it is key to the Gospel. Jesus spoke about Hell more than anyone else in the Bible. You have to twist too many verses to not believe it. Why did Jesus come to save the lost if there was no point? Why did Jesus have to die under the infinite wrath of God but to satisfy the Father's wrath against sinners? It is too important to mess around with this doctrine

Jesus uses Gehenna 11 times in the NT. It was originally used to describe the valley of Hinnom, which is where filth and dead animals were burned. Jesus used it as a place that would foreshadow eternal punishment, as it was outside the city of Zion, where the unclean would go, and where they would be burned with fire

It is obvious that He is not saying that unbelievers will be in that literal place, but in a spiritual one, as He speaks of an unquenchable fire (Mk. 9:43), a place where body and soul are destroyed (Mt. 10:28), as well as eternal (Mt. 18:8). On top of this, Jesus would refer to it without the proper place names by calling it the place of judgement, eternal fire, place of gnashing of teeth, etc. You also have a huge numbers of references in both the NT and OT to this fact. Does that help?

I got fired once from McDonalds for saying the food was not healthy for you. Same thing. The person who fired you was wrong. He either did not read or misinterpreted the Bible. I think some people who believe in hell don't quite grasp just how strong a word like "eternal" is. Maybe if Christianity believed in some punishment after death I might not mind the idea, but eternal? I believe crimes (sins, transgressions against humanity, whatever you want to call them) deserve punishment. However, I don't feel that any act any human has ever committed, no matter how horrible, is deserving of an eternal punishment. Many may not agree, but that is how I truly feel.

I am an agnostic. I have been for several years now. I personally do not know whether or not there is a god, higher power, etc., but i also do not believe in any religion. When it comes to Christianity i have had my own problems with their beliefs, but most of them I've never had too much of a problem with. That is, except for the concept of hell. I know it's a cliche argument against religion that an all-loving god could not send someone to eternal suffering, but it's one i agree with.

Ok aside from my response I wanted to comment on something in the video that I hear Christians say alot but can't take seriously. You say that God's love is unconditional and that he sacrificed Jesus to save us.

The only honorable thing to do is resign and find a congregation that believes like you do. Or at least go to the church leaders and offer to resign. I believe in the doctrine of Hell, and I believe that the scriptures are very clear on this teaching. I don't agree with the way this church has dealt with you, especially lying about what really happened. But the question that stuck me as I was watching this was:

Thank you for sharing those verses. They are a constant reminder of God's inexpressible love and mercy, one of his many attributes. However for me context is key, I cannot just cherry pick passages and isolate them as you have and read into what is said.

That was wrong for your church to do. You have you own beliefs and they were scared your beliefs would influence others. I believe true christians accept people how they are and help them change through time into the people they want to become... to be favored in the eyes of God. After all, God says come as you are.

What you believe is heretical. God is a perfect judge, and a perfect judge must be just. If everybody is going to Heaven why did Christ bother dying??? Because we're just kinda "lost" and wandering around? That has no biblical founding. It also implies that sin is not really evil and doesn't merit punishment, which basically undermines the severity of sin itself and the damage it has on peoples lives. I understand your hurt, but watch you believe is false doctrine.

@Ibprius A perfect judge would sentence His own creation to an eternity of punishment for 78 short years on Earth? Or for some only 17 years, 23 years, 30 years? What is the cutoff? Does a 6 year old receive the same sentence since the Scriptures don't talk about an age of accountability? How about a mentally challenged person or those who never heard of Christ? God is eternal, sin is not. God is love and love never fails, period :)

I guess they would have fired some of the early church fathers too as they didn't believe in "eternal hell" either. I'm not a christian, but just read "Christian Universalism", by Eric Stetson and have to admit he came across as one of the most thoughtful, hopeful people within the church. How would anyone ever enjoy Heaven if they knew their unbelieving loved one was suffering for all eternity in hell? Heaven would become hell, because your love for that person would break your heart every day.

So how can one say that there is a literal heaven but not a literal hell? Doesnt the same bible describe a place of damnation and tormet that also describes a place where god dwells and is supposedly lined with streets of gold and mansions( by the way physical elements can't be sustained in heaven) I mean what kind of creator makes a book for people to follow then allows us to pick and choose. Christianity is so confusing.

@genext7 If living anyway you want is your hearts desire, what is stopping you? Christ paid for your sins already. But there is still the law of karma. You harvest what you sow. If you steal from someone, you may get arrested of may have something of greater value stolen from you. @whatthehellbook I'm not trying to be confrontational, but i'm not going to buy ur book so I can see your version of a bible explaining why hell isnt real, because I'm pretty sure none of the stories of the bible are. But I just ask you to really think about why you can rationalize the bible, feel these people got it wrong, but still think the teachings of jesus is right, that you were taught the "one true religion" and are one of the few who got the bible's meanings right.

There are 4 different words translated as Hell: Gehenna, Hades, Sheol, and Tartarus. Please read the book and you will see what the Scriptures teach, even if you don't agree with what they say. Peace

The bible does actually speak of hell, and you do take many of the passages as literal correct? otherwise jesus could be a made up character to show how we should act.. so how then do you say other passages are literal. What makes you better than the millions of people who read the same book and find there is a hell? did god talk to you?

But as an atheist, I feel compelled to ask you how you can justify believing the teachings of jesus in the new testament, yet pick and choose what else you believe out of the same book.. the prime example being hell?

Exodus 20:16 "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." This sounds like a classic violation of the 9th commandment in the most literal interpretation. The people in the church who are telling these lies are not Christians. If an atheist like me can see that, why can't the congregation who are following these hypocrites?
I hope you find a church not filled with hypocrisy to ply your trade in. You seem like a nice guy, you don't appear to deserve this treatment.
