@Godzilla23i Thanks man. There's plenty of Front Load and Roll-off action in SF as well, but they're hard to catch. Roll-offs generally service construction sites or compactors that are out of sight. Front load action happens really late at night and early in the morning, with most done hours before noon. We have a 24 hour 7 days a week service area. You often see a lot of FLs come in and leave the transfer station around midnight or 1 in the morning. All Recology Golden Gate or Sunset Scavenger
@ACX009 I actually live right next to a grocery store which has a WM 30yd Compactor. I was able to record him picking up and putting back. all the roll-offs I've flimed were Mack's.
@Godzilla23i I've seen a Recology Heil Front Load roll-up to a neighborhood supermarket at 3am on a Sunday morning to empty a 4yd trash container. I'd like to see more of our roll-offs around but most compactors are hidden in underground parking lots or in loading docks. Our "full sized" (FL, RL, MSL, Roll-Off) fleet (excluding Lodal) consists of the Xpeditor line of chassis from White/GMC, Volvo, and Autocar, with Autocar mainly on the road today. There are roughly 250 trucks servicing SF.
Awesome!!! I remember how cool this was watching it in person when I filmed it..it'd be fun to work for them and do this every evening, there's something cool about working a trash truck in this part of the day. It's good to know that all that is composted, and I'm still amazed how well everyone participates and knows how to separate things correctly, you don't see any plastic going in there or anything. IDK about the nails in that pallet though..if you go there again, PLEASE get more!!!
Hey ACX009 if you want to see that episode of dirty jobs go to my channel and look in my favorites it is titled rear loader there are two parts BTW love these chinatown compost vids !!!!!
@Burrtec100 Thanks dude, and I'm way ahead of you. Dirty Jobs is probably one of my favorite shows on Discovery. I've pretty much seen every episode, but all vids taking place in SF are higher up on my list of favorites.
@TheOTTO2732 LOL, they were tossing Bananas into the other one. Yeah they take boxes. They don't collect recycling in the evening and cardboard is compostable, esp. the wet stuff, so might as well. Plus they run this truck specially to collect compost and cardboard.
@TheOTTO2732 Nope. In San Francisco, there are three streams, garbage, recycling, and compost- organics. The garbage is not touched, just trucked to the landfill after offload at Recology's transfer station. Recycling is a mix of hand and machine sorted at Recology Recycle Central on Pier 96 in San Francisco. Compost is offloaded at Recology's Organics Annex where it's screened in through a trommel to have any trash removed then sent to the compost facilities in the East Bay.
@TheOTTO2732 Cardboard doesn't necessarily need to be recycled the conventional way. It's biodegradable and can be broken down into compost which will essentially look like soil but benefits plant growth. Don't get me wrong though, we still do it the other way as well. It's just that whatever's in the blue bin will be recycled the usual way and the green bin contents will be turned into compost. =]
@mcbombtings Ah. Thanks. You did get to see this one in action while your were in SF,no? I have another clip coming up soon of another truck you should recognize. :D
@ACX009 Yes, briefly in action. I got to see him dump 2 carts and then he backed into some alley and disappeared. I can't wait to see what is next! :-)
@KennysTrucks This being the infamous Stockton strip, nah. There's not really much to recycle besides large plastic jugs, or five gallon buckets, maybe a few cans here and there, but they will trash it all. Some stores have had new 32 gallon recycling containers show up now but those are the ones that don't deal with food or produce. Some Restaurants in the lower parts of Chinatown have 64 gallon recycle containers, and for the most part, apartment waste is all trashed, no recycle or compost. =/
@ACX009 That's too bad they throw that away if it could be recycled. Wow, I thought San Fransisco cared about recycling and saving landfill space. That's too bad the apartments don't recycle. Lots of recycling comes out of there, and restaurants. At least a few have a recycling bin.
@KennysTrucks True that, but you know alot of those apartments house hundred of people with multiple stories, man of which are extremely low income new citizens or elders that only have the space of maybe the size of an average bedroom or two if lucky, so they don't really generate much refuse individually but as a whole maybe. Given the lack of space there's not much room to put multiple bins, and the trashman usually will have to go up the floors to get it. There's also always...
@KennysTrucks Sorry I ran out of space, but there's always the language barrier as well. Do you watch "Dirty Jobs"? If you do, have you've seen the episode "Chinatown Trash Collector"? It's one of the earlier episodes and I believe it's on youtube somewhere.
@KennysTrucks I can't post the link for some reason, but if you just type in "Dirty Jobs Chinatown" it should be the first video on the top. Hope this helps. :]
this video reminds me of the garbage collection in Taiwan where people show up and throw away their garbage instead of the garbage men throwing away the garbage. however, the garbage trucks in Taiwan play the ice cream truck music that can easily fool tourists, foreign visitors and people barely living in Taiwan.
@aurora990 True, I've been there, and It's similar in parts of China as well. The shop vendors help out because these trucks show up at the busiest time of day and they usually have more in the back that they need bring out. Moreover, the collection company will take extra set outs, but they only are really supposed to take what's in the cart and maybe just a few extra boxes but they don't mind if the vendors bring out extra and throw it in themselves.
Awesome job! I have the exact same truck/video coming up soon! LMAO I love the duck truck :D Each of the guys I saw helping are in my video too. I love this! I'm sure they wouldn't mind you helping. I see so much potential of someone getting hit in the face. The dirver told me this truck stays out till about 11. Thanks for posting!
@r6man2 LOL Duck Truck. Hmm. 11 you say? Must be the dark back alleys and restaurants. I see them offload around 8ish, the truck doesn't come empty at first either.. Anyways I'm sure they wouldn't have minded me helping but I was already fighting trying to stand still. It was like a freeway moving on either sides of me and wearing a backpack didn't help. LOL. Nice to see some familiar faces eh? Glad you like. I'm looking forward to your's so.. HURRY UP!
@JaccobDalton Thanks. Nah, the tippers custom mounted for Recology San Francisco by Bayne. It's a modified part of their really popular "TL" series. Heils also use a lot of Bayne equipment.
Nice Autocar Leach Beta Rear Load body. :) See any Frontloaders or roll-offs in your area of SF . Great camra work. And keep on rocking.

It's simply mind-blowing how much food waste is generated everyday. Thanks to Recology and the city of SF, this doesn't go into the landfill! =)
