The one thing we all seem to forget is that land stood there for years full of lead. The company that was supposed to clean it didn't so i'm sure lead leaked into the river for years and no one cared, So when someone tries to make something positive for us AND clean up the lead waste left behind everyone complains.....people are just never satisfied. Where were you when it was full of lead. I for one am very excited about this.
It may not be built on a toxic waste site but the remnants of lead may cause a problem... Not to mention being built so close to perth amboy might be the worst problem of all
Obviously the place is not being built on hazardous waste, people... I read in the WS Journal the developer is working with the EPA and spending millions to remediate before breaking ground.
Looks like an amazing development in what could be an amazing location. I'm one NJ resident who is excited about it.
Does the term 'fortress mall' really sound all that appealing to anyone? More shopping centers is probably the last thing New Jersey needs, let alone all these new homes being built on top of a toxic site next to a sewage processing plant. National Lead has a duty to clean up this area before they start suggesting flooding the site with people.
These developers think that people forget things, but they dont know that New Jerseyans dont. If they really need to make the city comparable to Time Square they should first clean up the site before building on it.
The developers are going to have a hard time filling those spaces with people and businesses once more people understand the hazards of the site. I can't think of anyone that would purposely live on top of a national lead site with an array of harmful chemicals.
Ah ha ha,, I LOVE that the real NJ people know it's a Toxic dump site in the marsh lands! Where you gonna go when the normal flooding happens there in the marsh lands?
Why would you want to walk around a mall that is built on a toxic waste site? It will not only degrade the air in the area but the toxins will continue to seep into the Raritan river which is already dirty enough. I can't imagine anyone would want to buy a residence knowing it was built on top a of a national lead site that contains arsenic and lead and other harmful chemicals.
Meaning that the benefits of the program are fairly exaggerated, and we should all take a long time to review this before passing it simply because it will look cool
While this sounds like a good idea on the surface people are forgetting the fact that this site will be built on a toxic waste site that is in dire need of remediation. If this is built the toxic sludge will continue to leech into the Raritan river. This will in turn gradually destroy the property value, a la what happened to the Camden port due to Dioxin and other chemicles. Furthermore, I feel assuming that the people of New York will travel to Sayreville NJ is a bit of a stretch,
THIS IS RIDICULOUS. They're building all of this on top of extremely high levels of toxic waste. New Jersey needs more open space protection, not development.
Is it a "Fortress mall" because they have to protect all the people from the high levels of radiological waste they are leaving under the buildings? 2.2 million square feet of mall and ZERO acres of open space.
You should also check out the sewage plant within walking distance from this place ... anyone from Sayreville that knows Main Street Extension knows what a lovely smell that place puts off just imagine walking around the mall smelling that
Love the idea of the waterfront but you are looking at an oil storage facility across the river. And the Mariana will need to do a lot of dredging very shallow water back there and the key factor is the train bridge about 1/2 mile up the river that you will have to deal with every time you want to get out into the bay as this is a very busy train line NJ Coast line and any boat will need to wait for the bridge to open! Hope they do it but a lot of work to make it work...
This should be great for the area! i grew up in South Amboy (with in walking distance from here) and this is needed for the local economy. I now live 5 minutes down the road and would love a place to go so close to the house. My only worry is traffic once its done i am sure it wont be so bad but living through the next 10 years should be interesting!!! Can't wait for Bass Pro Shop!!! This has been useless industrial / swamp land for ever that could use a remodel!!!
On one hand, this will be a great boost towards the economy. On the other hand, I am concerned about how it is so close to the water; Isn't there a severe risk of it flooding if proper measures are taken place? And even if they are, what on the off chance that one in a million does come along and destroy said measures?
gallangglia is mis-informed! NL did NOT process lead or make lead paint at the Sayreville location. NL processed a completely natural white pigment (titanium dioxide) which is used in food, sunscreen, paper and white paint. Don't take my word for it, look it up. Sayreville is a wondeful place to live, work and play. The Point at Sayreville will be a world class location to enjoy life! The Point will also bring desperately needed jobs and tax revenue to Sayreville. God Bless America!
Shut up! I live in Sayreville I know more what they did there and the rest of the scumbags whom think they do. Thank you for trying to protect that industry but in fact they are in China still sending the USA lead based toys found in your local gumball machines. The USA NAVY still uses lead base paints as well as all other government defence contractors. Lead base paint is still the best paint in the world!
I would NEVER live there. The whole place was National Lead that made lead based paint pigments. To build homes there is INSANE. The river is also sub polluted. When you go over the G.S.P. , those ponds you see south bound are acidic brakish pigment ponds when if the barges did not show up on time NL dumped their defunct pigments including the river. You got Woodbrige Center, Menlo Park, and Brunswick Square Malls with in 7 miles of this place. This is the NEXT XANNADU SAYREVILLE BOUND!
