Mike was the member that gave Monkees musical cred and no doubt he was a very talented guy but that's still no guarantee for success. Without the Monkees his music may never have been heard outside of his local watering holes. Sometimes I wish he would drop the I'm too good for the Monkees attitude and acknowledge the group gave him a vehicle to get his music heard. Success in music is so rare it takes talent and luck to make it. The Monkees were his lucky break.

He was my favorite Monkee, and I wore a "wool hat" with buttons sewn on for a couple of years. I never got beat up because I was tall and from Texas, and still look a lot like Nez!

@xxMisterJxx Peter can play tons of instruments, and Micky plays guitar as well as drums. Davy learned guitar too. I love Mike Nesmith, but I think they were all talented in different ways. They were originally hired as actors anyway, for the show.

If I understand, Michael went to the audition simply to become one of the songwriters for the series, not really thinking he was going to be auditioning to be ON the show. That may be one of the reasons he was so relaxed and goofy.

@Pippie The closest i've come to seeing their tapes is a photo taken from all the screen tests and put together, i know they were taken from the screen test because Mike and Davys are there to.
