  • This song is my lullaby...This movie was a MasterPiece!<3

  • C'est une bidoche

  • does anybody know where I could download this score?.. truly beautiful music

  • This song is composed of the purest emotion..it always gives me chills.

  • " I was never more certain of how far away I was from my goal when I was standing right beside it " - one of my all time favorites I just keep coming back to it

  • I remember when I first heard this song... I came back from school and there was Gattaca on the TV. I didn't know this movie at all. But I heard exactly 5 seconds of this song, and I completly felt in love. The minute after, I was downloading the movie, and 2 hours later, I was crying. Masterpiece.

  • Gattaca was an excellent, heartbreaking movie; so logical and brilliant. This song hits me with Nostalgia every time...this is my lullaby.<3

  • A shame Michael Nyman wasn't nominated for an Oscar for Best Score

  • This song is so Gorgeous. The movie was excellent! It was so HeartBreaking and Logical. I know we will be seeing the problem this movie focuses on soon.

  • a la mujer ke me ha dado nueva vida, nuevo aliento, con amor irrompible,a esther fernandez de bormujos de parte de enrike santos otero

  • esther amor esto es lo ke pasa por mi alma cuando t miro

  • Uma looked REALLY good in this one.

  • goosebumps...

  • Although I used an independent artist for my animation, most of it was conceived with this piece in mind.

  • 1400 superiors against 14 invalids... it´s kind of cool

  • @SamLee74 we are the 99%

  • I remember watching this in my Theatre class not long ago, such an inspirational tale of how one can break the odds of what was set to him. Nothing stands in your way except yourself. Never give up on anything. This movie inspired me to keep doing what I love, what beautiful music :')

  • One of the most inspirational movies I have ever seen. This movie is responsible for making me follow my dreams.

  • This film is sooo underrated. I guess the future generations will appreciate it more.

  • @harish2309 Very good remark, because i think it's true!

  • over a thousand likes and not even two dozen dislikes. you're wasting your time trolls. go listen to beyonce or something

  • 13 people are invalid.

  • @Gabory awful comment dude ;/

  • @Gabory that's a good thing on this thread. try again.

  • 1. open a new window and open youtube

    2. search rainy mood

    3. play it at the same time as your listening to this

    MAGIC

  • @Msmangoesz tried it and disliked it.

  • The third & the seventh !

  • Whether you like it or not that is the world waiting for humanity. Perhaps in a not too far away future. A world that was started by the Greek Empire, almost concurred by the Nazis and now it’s being carved and will be finalized by Liberals all over the world.

  • Just saw this movie again. It was amazing and almost made me cry in the end.

  • For future reference, right handed men don't hold it with their left.

  • 1:15 sounds like "Time" from the inception soundtrack

  • @BiffHendersonofJi I don't hear the resemblance but they are similar, I suppose. They both start out kinda slow and grow stronger, at least that's the best way I can describe it. There's a musical term for it too but I can't think of what it is right now.

  • Sometimes I feel like I'm genetically engineered.

  • This song has soul.

  • Is this the theme playing at the end of Terminator 3? When the nukes were already launching and Connor and Brewster were in the bunker?

  • @sychkid facepalm...

  • ☮, ❤, & ♫ be upon you all...

  • A few days ago i had the chance to meet Michael Nyman, i had an autograph by him

  • "You know my son wants to apply here....Unfortunately, my son isn't all that they promised. But still, who knows what he could do."

  • Believe me, the movie was amazing, but for some odd reason I can't bring myself to watch it again.

  • Haunting theme. The way they used it in the movie was perfect.

  • "Just remember, I was as good as any, and better than most. I could have gone up and come back down, and no one would have been any the wiser."

"For the record, right-handed men don't hold it with their left. It's just one of those things."

  • I heard this song back in 10th grade and I almost cried when I saw GATTACA. I had to hold back I was in class and I didn't want to just break down in front of everyone. But this song, its painfully beautiful. Just how the melody keeps repeating and becomes stronger as it progresses. Its so epic. I cry each time I hear it. I cry because it makes me thing about the movie but I cry because it makes me think about what will happen to life, being alone & my family. And I'm scared. But time will tell.

  • @sexcboymac1 bro, be strong!!! this world is full of pain and life really sucks most of the time but thay will only encourage us more to appreciate all the things happen to us right? :D

  • Sorry....the wind got it

POLECAM FILM.

  • Unforgettable movie with the perfect score, a demonstration of how emotionally provoking music can be in a film.

"I got the better end of the deal. I only lent you my body....you lent me your dream."

  • very underated movie. People don't appreciate thought provoking films anymore.

  • Ponies.

  • Whenever someone make me feel inferior.. i'm going to listen to this soundtrack

  • "You're gonna miss your flight Vincent."

  • stupendo..

  • Say what you will about the movie but the music was powerful.

  • they used the Michael Nyman piano version from his cd

  • They also took this score & made a piano version of it for the BBC movie "The Trip"

  • EPIC.

  • Is it okay to request a dubstep version or would that be sacrilege?

  • @apollyon379 requesting dubstep is sacred in itself

  • go onto netflix nd watch the trip with steve coogan and rob brydon, this song is at the end ( funny movie though)

  • jesus..

  • No matter who you are, or what you're struggling through, this song and this movie says it all. it's about perseverance, self-sacrifice,and hope for a better future. The lifting chords of the melody of this song act like waves, pushing you onward, sometimes pulling you back. it's what all of us might fight against; losing our hope, losing our upswing. everytime i watch gattaca, i cry. the feelings in there, of hate, hope, helplessness, they're so powerful.

  • @irockdudeoo7 Have you seen the film "The 3rd and the 7th"? It's just a short CG piece but the music in it is based off this

  • I watched this film when I was 12 and nv understood much of it cept that a man wanted to reach out as far as he can even though the whole world and even his body was against it. Now I'm 21 with everyone around me seemingly better, more gifted, more talented, more able, more confident, more everything. And that destroyed my optimistic younger dream of being something. But I re-watched it, I am reminded of my younger dreams, because it was when I believed that anything was possible. Don't stop me.

  • You may not be the smartest genius, or the fastest athlete, but if you're willing to fight, if you're willing to sacrifice it all, you might just have a chance at your dream. Never give up on hope.

  • I don't know the movie, but I'm loving this song already.

  • This film is truly an inspirational one with very powerful messages, in a future that doesn't seem too unlikely to happen.

Never give up, never let go of your dream.

There is no gene for fate, and you are the authority on what is not possible.

    I will never forget...

"For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe I'm not leaving... maybe I'm going home."

  • For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe I'm not leaving... maybe I'm going home.

  • "As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. It is in such twilight that we all must be aware of change in the air - however slight - lest we become victims of the darkness"

    - Justice William O. Douglas

  • " you wanna know how i did it, this is how i did it anton, i never saved anything for the swim back"

    -the most inspirational line ever..

  • I finally got a chance to see the movie myself last night. Truly an amazing movie and I'm glad I got a chance to witness it.

  • This film is the epitome of all films. Absolutely spectacular piece of work.

  • Five Years ago I went with a train to a foreign city to encounter the woman I wanted most in my life. Had no money to for the travel back. When I arrived, I saw that there was no hope for a relationsship of any kind. Somehow, with borrowed money and other help I finally got back home. The woman is almost forgotten, the trip is not...

  • @pascoett I did that and I´m still stuck in this foreign place

  • im not going away mabey m just going home

  • One of the best soundtracks ever made omg is glorious :)

  • @peopole45 . . . . . no

  • It gave him a reason for living at that time while in his depression. Awesome movie! Amazing music!

  • Simply perfect.

  • and that was joe peschi dnizzle555, in with honors

  • rolfchoppa007- agreed for sure definitely overlooked that scene, glad you agree tho amazing movie tho right!

and dnizzle555- yeah you are right

  • I noticed that the spiral staircase in Jerome's house looks like the double-helix structure of DNA.

  • @dnizzle555 hey! you took my comment from another video. try to be original for once

  • @bryoneill11 I most certainly did not. Did you think you were the only one that noticed that?

  • It's one of those soundtracks that are considered great, but the greatness of which eludes myself

  • just watched this in Science class... this should have gotten an oscar for Jude Laws Role. He was like that one hobo in With Honors with brendan fraser funny... yet meets a traggic demise after sacrificing so much.

  • so sad when Jude Law dies...he was living only to help Vincent achieve his dream, and he died with a silver medal around his neck

  • @willprentice What rolf said. And notice that in that scene, what the silver medal is reflecting makes it appear gold.

  • @PlanetMan77 really? Good Eye man... good eye.

  • how are you doing this? how have you done any of this?... you want to know how ive done it? i never saved anything for the trip back....

  • deadness155- seen this movie many many times, i think he gave him a reason to live as long as he did, he would have done it earlier, and vincent kept him alive, by needing him, vincent in a way advanced jerome's life, jerome lived through vincent, and he died happy knowing that he made another's dreams come true, when his own dreams could not be ascertained anymore... For someone who was never meant for this world, i must confess i am suddenly having a hard time leaving it...

  • @turnerzach1904 agreed yet you missed one crucial evidence remember in the earliest parts he says to Vincint he hates being second best. Since he knows he is pratically useless he drinks until Vincint came and gave him a purpose in living. Yet he did not give up until Vicent achieves his goal. After providing him an identity for a lifetime he felt there was nothing left then he killed himself. Otherwise your spot on accurate

  • It is such a great pleasure to listen to Nyman's music. Had a happy chance to meet him in person!

  • While this piece fitted the movie well, the ending didn't fit on a happier note. Vincent's one selfish desire of going to space lead up to the suicide of Jerome. It could had ended happier for the both of them.

  • @DeAdNeSs155 Vincent's desire to go to space wasn't the reason why Jerome wanted to die, nor what helped cause him to do so. Jerome had been unhappy for a while and he knew he wanted to do it.

  • "You're going to miss your flight, Vincent."

Such an simple, yet emotional line.

  • @Liberator130

thats the part that begins to choke me up

  • @Liberator130 Indeed, it was so heartwarming.

  • I feel like I've received a new hope by listening to this.

  • @HeartSeamstress is a mixture of sad sound , with a hope sound.

  • @HeartSeamstress is a mixture of sad sound , with a hope sound. romantic view of the space travel

  • Great movie GREATER SOUNDTRACK

  • I just sit and listen. But the value each not has is different. With the Dark Knight, each note was meant to clash with each other. Giving that violent feeling, some eerie feeling of a dark level of psychology. But here, each note is artfully crafted to flow. It holds a delicate air, almost as if it was meant to hold a simple feeling. Ascension, rise above the ranks, feel motivation. It sounds beautifully depressing, yet it's effects are the complete opposite, we cry becuase we clear our souls.

  • i listen to this when i feel misplaced, and think maybe i can find my place, maybe i won't be lost forever.

  • Very powerful score,it fitted with the emotion with Jude Law killing himself and Ethan going up in space. Cried when Jude climbed into the incinerator and placed the medal around his neck, very touching scene.

  • @thegreatcyke4ever Me too. Only thing on film that chokes me up.

  • No ahí duda que no pueda haber nada que detenga al hombre para poder alcanzar sus sueños...

  • I cried so friggin' hard I never thought it would stop when Jerome died.

  • Ok, I see now. The movie that won best picture for 1997 was Titanic. But they should at least have been nominated.

  • I agree with the people here. How was this film not recognized for it's brilliance? I have watch this movie many times and never get tired of it. This piece reminds everyone of the last scene of the movie. Sad, glad, and inspiring all at the same time. Should have won best picture, best actress, best actor, best director, best scriptwriter, and best score. Rocky and Titantic rolled into one movie. I'm a movie buff and this is on my top 3 of all time best movies list.

  • @ZexMerquise I SOO agree with you!! i get why people are so in awe of Titanic, but even this, in my opinion, beats the Titanic. It is beyond any words to describe powerful

  • 11 people were created in the labs ...

  • Ernest Borgnine as the elderly 'trash-collection boss' and his gentle part in the conspiracy to allow Vincent/Eugene to reach space(I've watched this a few times now, it becomes more apparent).

Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants.

    Far Out. Literally.

  • @PerignonPop I missed that, how did he help Eugene? Was it something to do with disposing of evidence?

  • This is so Beautiful !

  • I get goosebumps when I hear this..

  • This exquisite film was under-appreciated. It is still - possibly even more - relevant now. My all-time favorite film. Brilliant writing, excellent acting, sensational score.

  • i still say this was one of ethan hawke's best performances. there's so many great things i would like to say about this film, but it's so many that i wouldn't know what to say first. i liked training day a lot, but this is the movie that really made ethan hawke catch my eye. i found just about every aspect of this film appealing. from the plot and acting down to the soundtrack, this film is really something else. a highly underrated piece.

  • 1997 that's 14 years ago...yet still such a thought provoking movie.

this is how i got to know michael nyman's music and i think this is the best soundtrack in this movie and one of the best music pieces.

  • Every time without fail.

  • "They used to say that a child conceived in love has a greater chance of success, they don't say that anymore."

    Epic movie, beautiful soundtrack.

  • Great soundtrack

  • The most beautiful movie ever. I will never forget it.

  • The most beautiful movie ever. I will never forget it.

  • This song is so beautiful it hurts. And this movie is inspiration enough to get me through my last year as an undergrad.

    God is good.

  • Hmm, can anyone explain to me why this movie got NO awards and is under-appreciated? this really is a great movie, but it hardly got ANY recognition :(

  • @effthismofo1 Because the message that is transmitted to people today is that money buys happiness, and that kind of things. This movie is really really beautiful and perfect, from it's photography to its script, and it's soundtrack...just perfection. It was deeply planified and everything was taken into account, even the roles of each character.

That's why this movie got no awards, is under-appreciated and under-rated, because the message is that human spirit is gone, and that's a big big lie.

  • @JurisicSantiago

What, no. The messeage of the movie is that "it IS possible." The human spirit is still alive in some people. That is how Vincent/Jerome was able to go to space (even though he had to take on the identity of a "valid").

  • @evanstone9 Wait, you missunderstood my comment. The "message" I was referring to, is the message that capitalism and big corporations spread all over the world nowadays, not the movie's one.

  • whats the name of the song??

  • my first born is going to be named vincent anton

  • i reside in that melancholy slump, but i breathe and persevere, heartbroken but still beating with this cold feeling but still fleeting. and this score what a palpable arrangement left me with some relief, and hope...

  • @lilducky85 I hear that.

  • “Departure” es envolvente, elegante y de suave armonía minimalista, el tema perfecto para acompañar la secuencia en que Vincent se erige sobre las restricciones de su intemporal mundo para alcanzar su más anhelado sueño, estar cerca de las estrellas…

  • This music... Always gives me the chills... Sometimes... Music without words can say more than a song with lyrics... The movie was inspiring... And despite my past and all that I have gone through.... I have seen now that nothing... Nothing can stop you.

  • “Whether you prevail or fail, endure or die, depends more on what you do to yourself than what the world does to you”

  • For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe I'm not leaving... maybe I'm going home.

  • @briannloo

    One of my fav quotes...EVER!

  • *insert stomach churningly cheesy comment*
