I'm long overdue for watching these films again. Been meaning to for ages. But I disagree that the films are supposed to be set in the past. I always imagined it that it was like there was someone telling these stories to someone else, and at the beginning that's how he introduced them. But this narrator is telling these stories from very far in to the future, while the stories themselves still take place in the future from us. To the narrator we are even further back in time.

Don't mean to be nit-picky, but Jedi is not only singular but also plural. Jedis is not how you say Jedi as a plural subject. Same thing with samurai. just saying.

Actually, it's true: Jedi and Samurai are VERY closely related. Look up the code of the Samurai, and then some of the Jedi (I'm not a nerd, it's just the obvious things) code, and you've got A LOT of similarities such as their beliefs like Shintoism and The Force. It's kind of interesting when you look at it from a further prospective, and I'm glad James points this out. I also have that VHS set still. :)

Star Wars is also a classic epic like Lord of the Rings and Beowulf, it follows all of the sterotypes, not in a bad way of course, but it's beautiful how Star Wars takes ancient ideas and influences and makes it new and is just an enigma of AWESOME!

1slight against the movies tho, since he takes liberties too around time marker 4:00 and thats to me all the different aliens, PARTICULARLY in the bar/Jabba the Hut scenes, I don't find all that original, remarkable or brilliantly inventive and heres why. To me acheiving that would be as ez as asking ten ppl in your creative room to each come up with what they consider a weird alien. Get ten or so DIFF ppl to do that & boom(!) you would AUTOmatically have that task done! Simple, not genius.

@spiderlolo100 Let me explain. The original Star Wars movie was supposed to be the only star wars movie. The ending with Vader escaping from the death star was a homage to the cliffhangers of film serials so you could always guess what happens next but it was satisfying enough to end. But it got popular so they made 2 sequels. Because of this the original 3 movies should be looked at as one timeline. The prequels screwed up the chronology. Everything else is the expanded universe. Doesn't count.

@KelanDWood so what im saying is A New Hope is canon(in my mind) and Return of the Jedi is the conclusion. To be more specific there are 2 major timelines. BBY(Before Battle of Yavin) takes place before the mission to destroy the death star in A New Hope and ABY takes place after. It comes closer towards my theory of A New Hope being canon. Not exactly.
