thanx josh too intraducing me to this band and so many more when we were teen agers...sebadoh,dinosour jr,mud honey ..etc.......this era of music went so unnoticed but not forgotten,,,,,,10 15 years later still rockin this shit....
This is the best "unknown" band of the 90's. They were part of an awesome scene back then. A scene that was so special and will never be repeated. I saw them live and then went to a house party after the show. I couldn't believe that they were at the party. They came because some guy simply invited them. What a cool bunch of guys and what a great time it was to be young!!!!
@eddievanhallen5150 Absolutely! Vee Vee is way better! Harnessed In Slums, Greatest of All Time, Floating Friends, Death in The Park, Fabricoh are all fucking amazing and top everything on Icky Mettle.
They sure the fuck are!! And guess who will be in Dallas on June 12th to see them? I think you guessed it....the spouse and I purchased our tickets last night.....I'm so stoked. What a fucking night that is going to be!!!!! Give me Audiowhore, give me Web in Front, give me Wrong, give What did you Expect? Give me South Carolina, give me Telepathic Traffic, give me Might, give me Plumbline, give me Dead Red Eyes, give me White Trash Heroes, give me Mutes in the Steeple, and finally, give me this!
@bigbadplumberlife Just heard they're playing at least 10 stops this summer on a reunion tour. Sasquatch Music Fest...couple dates in SanFran, couple in Chicago...Check it out!
I've always thought that AOL was better than they had a right to be. This stuff still remains infectious and kickass at the same time, nearly 20 years on. Greatness.
I'll be damned, this is the first noisey indieish rocky band i've ever heard who isn't fronted by some limpwristed wispy voiced anti rocker. good stuff.
This and Underdogs of Nipomo are their two best songs IMO. Side note: I once saw them in Indianapolis at the Patio and was waiting for them to play Underdogs of Nipomo and someone from the crowd yelled out for them to play "Underdogs of something" the lead singer says, "You don't even know thecorrect name of the fucking song, so fuck you, we're not gonna play it". I was hoping he was joking but sadly he wasn't. Looking back it was pretty fucking funny.
It's a crying shame how little known this group is considering how criminally they have been ripped off by pop-punk groups later in the decade or by more mainstream alt acts like Bush. What a remarkable sound!
there is a prophecy carved into a stone many days journey into a vast desert. it reads (and im translating here): "one day, when independent music has become stale and hipsters roam the streets freely and foals is able to sell their albums and the people are dejected, archers of loaf shall reform and gig alot and then they all wont be so said anymore."
@legarageraj Saw 'em on my 23rd birthday. I got a really stupid tattoo, had mediocre sex with my then girlfriend, and then saw this show with one of my best friends. Made a pretty mundane day into one I'll remember for the rest of my life. Thanks AOL!
@formandfile Not really... Superchunk, Archers, blah, blah kind of suck. Bland pop punk. Now, Polvo? They were fucking geniuses. They are, I mean... They just recently played a bunch of shows and I guess are semi-active. But Chapel Hill didn't "own so hard" or anything of the sort. Oh, and Breadwinner were fucking awesome too. But this pop punk stuff, with a small side of noise? Meh. Sounds like the dude from the Replacements singing for Hüsker Dü 10 years after that sound was established.
These guys put on the best show I've seen at the Sapphire Supper Club in Orlando. The crowd, the band, and the music merged into one. Archers records were in constant rotation amongst my group of friends...they were the fucking kings of indie rock.
hey, did steve albini record this album, the drums sound albini-ish (i dont think thats a word). I've been looking for this album sense forever, but I cant find it :(
To my knowledge, it was Bob Weston who engineered this album. I don't know that Albini had anything to do with this one even though Steve & Bob often work together. In any case, I love the drums on this album.
Saw them live at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago back in the mid-90's. David Yow was wasted and hanging in the crowd for the show. Beautiful, foggy memories.......
ive seen 100+ shows in my 17 years of seeing shows and the archers on the vee-vee tour in richmond va is probably in my top 3 next to the misfits and david bowie. They rocked the stage down.
I saw them during the Icky Mettle tour when they were in Ann Arbor at Ricks and it was a great show. Helium opened for them and they were pretty decent but not quite in the same realm as the Archers.
This song is amazing.. but then so is so much of wut they do, lets face it, they were genuisies in the indie rock world. I wish i could have them live!!!!!

Snuff the leader with a baddass plan
Take what you want from the palm of his hand
The running joke, running joke's running dry
strip the color from the meat of my eye
Rotorgust 4 years ago
Said the leader with the bad ass brown,
take what you want from the brother his town,
We're running drugs, running, drugs, running dry,
Smack the color from the meat of my eye.
I won't wait! We won't late! They drunk late!
Side to side with a dry sponge journey to his face, you let me down for the second time straight.
That's what I've been singing in my car for the past 12 years in my car singing it. Loaf rules.
