  • Bro what about The Get Up Kids?? One of the best emo bands from the 90s!

  • Everyone on here trying to categorize what is "emo" and what isn't are a bunch of morons. It's a pretty subjective thing because there really isn't a set in stone definition of "emo". It is extremely asinine to act like you are the authority on an issue when the issue is a completely subjective one.

  • It's Fantastic!

  • Shut the fuck up about old school and new school emo and posers....

    Emo is what it is.

  • using the emo scene's history to justify why you listen to modern scene bands is pretty much a logical fallacy

  • omg hot water music is not emo either who ever made this video needs to pull thier head out of thier ass

  • sunny day was not an emo band.

  • @MTVVH1sucks Yeah they were

  • @MTVVH1sucks Yea they were..

  • @MTVVH1sucks Yes they were.

  • what? no 400 years?

  • why the hell is hot water music in here? they're a post-hardcore band.

  • @Pendulant

Because it's a sub-genre of emotive punk or emocore(emotional hardcore).

  • surprised u didn't put At The Drive In......they weren't emo but.........

  • At the drive in 198d is a great example! :)

  • the time breaks away the fear, when brave songs disappear...nough said

  • cfd don't have a song called "ultra lite." that's definitely not them. however, long out is for sure their song, off the anthology cd.

  • ever even spoke about rites of spring who put the post-hardcore long before falling foward

  • Cap'n Jazz <3

  • I didn't get to watch the whole video but I hope Mineral were/are included in this.

  • knapsack, sunny day real estate, hot water music, jejune, christie front drive. all still in regular rotation in my stereo.

  • was that really a christie front drive song? sounded like the beatles

  • Elliott, joshua, shift, garden variety, knapsack, jejune, race car riot. american football. Miss those bands.. yep.

  • Does Small Brown Bike count as emo?

  • SunnyD... they should be more famous ;-( but then again maybe they shouldn't because I'm so sick of people killing genres of music and calling it a lifestyle.

    damn posers.

  • theyre reforming :)

  • I heard guitar hero is putting that song, "Seven" by sdre on there, I am so pissed.

  • why are you pissed? its great exposure for that music

  • @emoranger1111 u have a poser name !

  • these guys were great! my old band used to do a cover of "In Circles" by SDRE and i was shocked at how many people came by us and said "wow! you guys like SDRE??" that was cool. We also played with Jimmy Eat World years ago. they showed up in a white mini van with AZ plates. funny.

  • most of sdre are in the foo fighters

  • sdre changed my way of thinking

    [2]

  • i must agree with majesticon , and bands like shotmaker heroin, frail....

  • sdre changed my way of thinking

  • Why does all your videos skip over bands like Policy of 3, Antioch Arrow, Mohiinder, Angel Hair, etc?

  • because this guy dosent have a clue as to what he's talking about, his first video was good and actually had REAL emo bands, none of the bands in this video could really be called emo, except for maby falling forward

  • no, i think he knows exactly what he's talking about. music is allowed to evolve and change. these bands are still emo, but that doesn't mean they have to adhere to a strict sound. if the first bands hadn't done the same thing, we'd all be sick of the same stale punk scene today

  • I can tell by your DP that your a scenekid, therefor your opinion means shit, and yes, genres do change overtime, but they NEVERA become the polar opposite, there are no waves of emo, there is just emo and screamo, and not a single band in this video is emo

  • its apparent you don know what emo is

  • @jmka4l maybe u dont know!! this is emo, whats emo for you???

  • @ZeRoO4478 this! I was replying to someone who was saying this wasn't emo a long time ago...don't come at me man, I know my shit lol

  • @jmka4l ah xD ok that changes everything xD

  • policy of 3 were amazing

  • god that hwm song is good!

  • Man I miss SunnyD

    noone even knows them anymore

    :/

  • i feel stupid they dident copy but they got there singing from them maybes

  • long one sounds like john singing and jesse singing, tell me the name of that song, or its that band christie front drive, also knapsack sounds like john nolan is that where they got there stuff from, or there singing?

  • Emo-so this means anything with melody combined with distortion is of the genre. The most confusing and annoying tagname for a "scene" ever.

  • sorry, I said it wasn't Christie Front Drive too soon.... the first song wasn't the second one was. :P

  • That is not Christie Front Drive... Not even close. sorry

  • i miss SAMIAM ;)

  • what about cavein even though i can't stand todays emo sound i think cavein are partly known for having that sound and come on they are from boston

  • wheres jawbox?

  • where is JIHAD??????????????

  • yeah it was a better time for this kid of music. (part two))))

But france scene and some bands from Praha was so cool too.

anyway thanx from Russia. When i was young i buy this band's EP by post way.

  • you just named bands that were becoming more melodic-they're bands that did not stray from the moss icon intensity from then till now.

i like mineral, boilermaker, sdre, cursive, etc...

but i don't think of those as actual "emo" bands as say hoover, indian or more recently city of.

  • wow congrats on being able to read fourfa faggot

  • Seriously thought, emo today is bullshit. I don't even know where the jet black hair, the tight jeans and the whole emo fashion today came from.

  • now i guess we are getting into the shitty stuff?

  • Knapsack are incredible

  • hot water music ftw! however, i don't really view them as being really emo. but then again, this video is more focused on the influences of earlier emo during the late eighties, so i feel like you are very correct in your choice of music for this issue of emo history

  • uhhh..... i love knapsack.

  • I don't like the mixed messages. You're definitely mixing old-school songs with the new-school imagery (like broken hearts and converse and stud belts). You're gonna confuse people even more. the old stuff is already starting to be ruined by people confusing it for the new stuff (it already happened to Sunny Day Real Estate and Rites of Spring), so don't make it worse

  • agreed.

    those pictures are unsuitable.

also it's strange to call mid-nineties bands "old school".

  • The only emo band i heard in this video was SDRE. The rest of this video is irrelevant.

  • sunny day real estate:)

  • That song is not christie front drive....

  • pretty cool... don't forget about bands like policy of three,400 years, and sleepytime trio.and all the mike kirsch bands-fuel,john henry west, ect.

  • Love IT,... man Its great Job!
