Noob advice, but the oil all over the gun is not a factory lube, its an oil to preserve the shelf life just like rotors on a car, so you need to give the gun a proper breakdown and cleaning and lube before you expect it to fire properly.
with the p22, it functions best if you do a full component disassembly and cleaning every 3,000 rnds or so. I noticed mine jaming about a week ago with cci minis and have done the cleaning and it functions flawlessly on even subsonic now.
Thanks for the informative video. Though I don't yet own one, the P22 feels light and fantastic in my hand, Nice to know that it'll shoot 100% with the right ammo. I'd probably still take the dremel felt polisher and 1500 grit wet sand to it if I bought one. I think I'll do that with my S&W 22a, though it works perfectly.
I avoid HP in .22 anyway, since the .22 is already at a disadvantage by not being designed for semi-auto.
I own the same weapon and went through same issues shoot CCI mini mags or CCI stinger thats it nothing else the weapon will choke on anything else belive me i have tryed them all...
mine never failed to feed 'til after it was dropped in a mud puddle. failed to feed twice after that then fired like new. I use cci mini mags. Can't speak about any other ammo but my p22 has passed the accidental puddle splash test with flying colors
I love rapid firing so much! Did it today on a Glock 22... Rapid fire is my excuse for my sucking at aiming... I can't aim, so I rapid fire to use that as an excuse.
Haven't had much prolems w/ the 5" barrel. Actually, it was much more w/ ammo like Remington and Winchester having deffective rounds (did not fire on first hit). I've shot Aguila's SSS (Subsonic Snipers) w/o any problems. Other than that the pistol itself now has propably about 1000 rds through out w/ no mechanical problems other than winchester HP not racking when hiting the release lever.
How many rounds have you fired through the pistol? From what I've been hearing is that you have to put 200rds through the gun to before concidering any reliability (Rifle and pistols alike). You know, break in a weapon. Of course, you may already know that. There is also a fix that I read online involving a dremel and smoothing out the knoch in the chamber ramp, but that was w/ hp rounds.
@tiffyj85 oops deleetd my comment thought this was a glock vid, lol I have over 5000 rounds through this almopst every kind of ammo jams every so often besides CCI...doesnt matter if its new or not cheap ammo will jam
@cutlerylover , Ah that reminds me, I keep reading that CCI is the way to go. The reason why I'm commenting is because I just recently purchased a P22 Target, but I got to wait up to 10 days. I'm looking forward to a P99, however afterwards. I had a Glock 27 and really didn't like it. It's the compact design. Even if a glock, I generally don't like the grip and build of the type.
Hopefully I won't have too many hang ups a good percentage of P22 of owners are experiencing.
@cutlerylover it seems like there are some of these guns that work perfect with all ammo and some don't feed anything right. ive seen vids with people shooting low power subsonic rounds which aren't even supposed to be used in a semi auto that work fine.
Well, judging by the background scenery, a HUGE part of your problem is where you're located. It appears you're too far north for much good to come of ANY type of endeavor.
@vetryder IM in NE PA a gun should work in freezaing cold weather or bliustrering hot weather, thats why I carry my glocks everfyday , not my walther...
Thanks for the video I had great luck with the winchester copper jacket hollow points i bought a box at my local wal mart of 555 round and only had one misfire no failure to feed or eject for $19.97 a box i really recommend it if you want a cheap plinking round but thank a mill for the information
I shoot the cheap stuff, winchester 333s. Gun doesnt fail to fire up till around the 300th shot. Ive gone through many boxes with minimal malfunction with the winchecters. Of course Ive modified it alittle to help with some of the problmes. Its a great little gun to practice on and its cheap to shoot. I too have used the CCIs and have had little malfunction.
Did you polish the loading ramp alittle to help with the feed issues??
awsome vid man. ive been telling guys to stop shooting cheap ammo its the rounds not the gun. i have a p22 mine is 100% reliable. i only run cci. minis seam to work better than stingers as you see. HP tend to jam but as you said a lil tap with a dremmel and your golden. thanks for the vid's everyone that talks crap shol watch your vids befor they open there mouths.i love my p22. check out my vid.
LOL picked 1 up about a month ago with the laser and got 2 spare mags after watching this i think i need about 3 more. Ive been 2 busy to go shoot it yet but I got 4 boxes of the mini mags whaen i picked it up so I hope my results are as good as yours when I have some time to go break it in.
Same story with my Sig Mosquito. I hoped to be able to shoot the bulk crap, but no. Soon as I switched to CCI mini mags it's been 100%. I also polished the feed ramp and beveled the step down into the barrel to match the feed ramp. I've had it for about 2 years now with lots of fun behind the trigger. In fact, I have a vid on my page of me shooting it at around 100yds at some bottles.
100 rounds rapid fire? if you cna do better thats cool, but thats about as good as I cna do, I woudl love to see a vid of somethgin better though so I cna see your technique...
your not 100%use to your set up are u if u look every time u go to put the meg in to your front pocket insted of the pouch u have on your set up and u looked down like every time lol
well no Im not sure to the setup with the P22, I ahve only been using this with my Ak this far..and throughout the video I kept changign where I kept the empty and loaded mags...
It would be fun to see you have a line of like soda cans, and see you plink them off one by one. And maybe some stationary clay pigeons to shatter too.
"Front sight., press, front sight., press", repeat after me..., not aim jerk, aim jerk!!! And this is only with a .22. You're going to have real trouble with a larger caliber, your rounds will be hitting all over the place.
I have shot my glock 17 alot more than this gun, thanks for trying to help, but my trigger control and shooting expereince is alot beter than what may appear on camera...plus its always hard to take advice from people who talk and dont show...post soem videos on shooting tips, alot of guys woudl appreciate it
yes cold, but not freezing, it was like 38 F in this video, cold still, but I coudl still shoot without gloves and my sleeves were getting in the way, lol, still looks funy to have a jacket with rolled up sl;eaves, thats like a vest in the summer made of wool...haha
Because the hammer goes against the slide, slows it down so the bullet doesnt get in there. You can try by pressing the hammer up against the slide while its back, youll see that the slide wont move at all, but if you pull it down, the slide moves freely and the bullet gets in there.
Hey bro, if you can find it, you should try out high-velocity (1260fps) federal 550 value pack ammo sometime. I have found it pretty much as reliable as mini-mags at a FRACTION of the cost. my wal-mart sells the 550 pack for about 16 bucks. It is the same grain bullet and velocity as the mini-mags and it has cycled as good as mini-mags in all the semiautos i have tried it in.
Great video, really enjoyed it. I love the unplanned stile of your videos. hope too see more, and to see your firearm collection grow. If you ever need any advise on trapshooting, I'm pretty knowledgeable on the subject.
That looks like a great gun. i would so buy one but i have very big hands and it feels uncomfortable for. do you think the p99 would be as reliable as this model? or reliable for self defense for that matter.
cci ammo is the way to go, my walther and mosquito love it, little more expensive but in the long run its worth it. once you get enough rounds through it and break it in, you then should be able to put some of that cheaper stuff through it....nice video.
its a dump pouch, basically a bag that fodls upo nice for storage and carry but unfolds to have a bag to store stuff, this is a medium size one from maxpedition...
Hey Jeff, I have a P22 as well, but I don't get to shoot too often. I was wondering, could you bump fire it? I've always wanted to try it, but I always forget when I do go shooting. Any comment?
well I never tried, but the principal with bumfiring is to use thje recoil to reset the trigger, and witrh 22's lacking recoil it woudl be dam hard to do if even possible..
I bump fire everything and no, a .22 cannot bump fire. I have bump fired an AK, CZ VZ 58, AR-15, M1 Garand, Mini-30, most any rifle. I tried a 10/22 but the recoil isn't stout enough. Currently I am trying to bump fire pistols but that is a whole different technique. I have seen people use a board and screw driver but I would rather do it without a tool
Glad to see that CCI ammo worked out for you. I used to have a Sig Mosquito, and it wouldn't reliably shoot anything except CCI mini mags. I am a big fan of CCI. Good stuff!
Hey, just something to keep in mind.. that "rated" velocity, 1200-whatever fps, is what they get out of their test barrel. In most handgun ammo that usually means a 4- or 5" full-size duty gun barrel. Compact guns get less. I don't know what they do for .22LR, but I have to assume it's out of a rifle barrel, at least 16" long. If so, you're not getting anywhere near that out of a P22.
Just a fact, with a .22 you have to run quality ammo. Rimfire ammo in itself just is not consistent and all .22 pistols jam.
