I must say that I am putting the go4 at the top of my all time list. I have a vague rememberance of seeing them with the dead kennedy's in 79 or 80 in van at the commadore ballroom? anybody else remember that gig?
@fringedweller99 yep I was there for me one of the best nites of my life the walls dripped sweat that nite the energy pouring off the stage was overwhelming!! Unforgettable!
This album shits all all over the first record. "Solid Gold" is GO4 in their prime. I's kind of like how Wire's "Chairs Missing" kicks "Pink Flag" to the curb. The better production does not hurt. The drums sound menacing. Gotta love it.
The LP version is far better...absolutely better produced and how it was meant to be heard. I wish someone would post it buy my copy is iTunzed.
But I did also buy the original ('79 ish?). Was working in a record shop. The first Entertainment! album was just ....hell there was nothing like it when it came out.
If you find that original LP for OutSTTDROT, buy it. Cherish it, dip it in Gold.
This version was on the "Solid Gold" record. The version you can hear on the extended-play "Entertainment" CD was the single version. The single version is a little faster with better dynamics.
I like a song you can not "sit down to".
This beat grabs you by the neck and throws you on the dance floor.

Good point but people remember the debuts as they were like nothing else at the time, all good though.

An inspired arrangement and performance. In their original line-up, they are the still the best.

despite the Solid Gold (1981) cover, you can find this song on the Entertainment (1979) album
lyonslaforet 2 years ago
It didn't show up on Entertainment! until 1995.
Solid Gold is its original LP debut and its first album debut period was the Yellow EP (1980).
