Most regrettably, it seems that physical appearance may overcome inner talents. Bad marketing has a lot to do with it. These young women have beautiful voices (or so seems in the recording. Could it be that they can't sing live? Don't think so...) bue the marketing manager only heeds to their loveliness. Poor way of selling good music and good voices.
these girls are most likely a guilty pleasure to both the crowd who looks for hotness but ostenttatively shuns high art such as classical music and snobs who will not see a classical singer unless she is 250pounds and 50yrs old...how delicious...
t was 1971 or 2 and my best friend Jonelle was a gifted mezzo soprano,(still is) in a music class at the University of New Orleans. She invited me to the class ChristImas party. 2 female students sang this umpromtu and acapella and I, who was all about Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Doors, etc. was enchanted. I have never forgotten it and never will. They sang it slowly and reverently and had no idea how it influenced me. Beautiful!
PLEASE! All who treasure this most beautiful composition, tell us which rendition brings you to TEARS...that is the point...what good is technique if it only pleases the ear? Anytime I need to cry like a baby, I turn to loradachescu...show me more heart!
Why spoil beautiful music and voices with a ridiculous 1960's soft porn vampire flick look? It's an insult to the music and to their ability as singers....
The women in the pictures above are the OperaBabes; in other words, they are the ones who sing. Both are classically trained (soprano and mezzosoprano).
the power is in the song - these babes are selling something else - sometimes this appeal is interesting - sometimes not - we should all thank jacques offenbach first for creating something so timeless like this...and not worry about opera babes or moms too much...
These gals are good, but the very name "opera babes" kind of cheapens them. It insinuates that their appeal is their physical appeal, rather than their voices. "Celtic Women" is not "celtic babes" and there's a difference. "Bond" is a string quartet selling themselves on their sex appeal.
I'm interested in the music. These arrangements are a little "poppy" but quite nice. Why not sell the virtue of the music instead of the beauty of the singers...? just my two cents.
They suck, no two ways around that you will never see them in an opera house -- NEVER. Real opera fans don't listen to this bullshit, so give me thumbs down or question why i actually listened to them but that doesn't change the fact that these girls would go nowhere if they looked like Monsarant Caballe, listen to her instead.
You may be right about the fact that they wouldn't go far without their looks and a studio to help them sound better. But don't call this bullshit, the opera industry is getting smaller and smaller and so are the contributions. What these girls are doing, and other artist like them, is bringing this kind of music closer to a younger audience and the industry needs that audience to survive. And if we have to go down to the level of selling the looks instead of the music alone... so be it
May not be bullshit but I think that using looks to bring a younger audience would only make opera as expendable to young people as Top 40. Unless you like the music for the music, you won't stay for the longterm. What young people need is to not worry so much about image (such "unpretentious" image, or thinking only thin people should sing!) + just explore, see what they like. I't's not the worst crime being associated with "old" taste, but sometimes that's what they seem to think.
And also... it's people like you, that call themselves "real opera fans" that make young people not want to listen to this kind of music. It makes them think that people who listen to opera are pretentious and up tight, and young people dont want to be associated with that. I know its sounds dum, but there are a lot of people out there who are stupid.
this doesnt apply to every young person out there, I know a lot of people out there can think for themselves, but there are still a lot who cant
@PTCello I know, not only the name cheapens them, but it also takes away the seriousness of opera and it brings out the idea of that opera singers should be hot, and that is totally not the purposse of opera singers.
@PTCello I think you two cents is worth a few dollars, their voices are good enough to stand on their merits. Sad commentary on the society we live in
I've been looking for the song for a bit since I heard it in Life is Beautiful; I didn't know the name; only that it was from The Tales of Hoffman. I am just glad to have found it myself.
Proof is in the pudding...if you dont like it dont listen to it ..I like the sound of Opera babes..but i dont like the way mezzochristina sings..sorry

Ottima armonizzazione musicale e brave le cantanti, anche se vorrei sentirle dal vivo, senza troppi aiuti dalla sala di registrazione....
Ciò che conta però è il risultato e qui si trasmette una bella vibrazione...quindi OK!
