I don't think people hoarding junk is to do with "the evils of capitalism" in any way. In fact, capitalism is about THROWING AWAY old things in order to get new stuff. There are always going to be people who hoard stuff, because not everyone lives in some kind of IKEA showroom home.

so far i haven't seen the type of hoarding my mom seems to have. Since almost as far as I can remember, we always had way too much junk in our house, she says she tries to clean things up but in reality her habits contradict her, and when you try to talk about it, she gets very defensive. Her reasoning mostly comes from being afraid of not having something if the situation arises, or that "oh you can't find another one like this".

@Tyrfingr As a capitalist i'll tell you why you're basically incorrect. I have family members in the USA who make plenty of money. They also buy almost nothing , they don't consume much at all. And they are often the norm. One of my family members made LOTS of money but is a very simple person. It is very dificult to get him to buy anything. why? How in a capitalist society is he like this? Because like many, he does not want it or need it. Hoarding can happen anywhere, it is a mental illness
