I wish they'd come into Michigan, but that is CSX territory. There are no leftover
B & O steamers that I know of, and certainly none as fast as the 844 or powerful as the 3985. Sometime I'll have to go out to Cheyenne and see these things in action.
Skip Just can't go on anymore WITH-OUT thank-in ya, your coverage of the 844 just get's better & and better.. say.. you know when she'll be making her "Western Swing" again? I'll be looking for what footage I have taken and let ya know (to many boxes lol )ie:When she ran Double headed with Big-Boy (Picked-up From SLC,ut. and ran with her to Calf. you have any footage of this trip?
That was a super vid. Whoever was driving did a awesome job of keeping pace.
I was on the steam special last Nov behind 844 and we saw a few people get stopped by the cops for pacing or cops would pull in front of a group and drive slow, just to keep them back. We'd leave them behind.
I will be follwing the 844 from Jefferson City to St. Louis. Do you have any hotspots or tips of good photo spots along the route? Any good pacing roads?
Hello, Im from Bolton, Lancashire, England. Great train this love watching it. Have any of you looked at some of the many preserved railways in England ? They are worth looking at. One of the last steam trains built in my home town was 76079. If you search just that number you should be able to find it its fab. You can also search East Lancashire Railway that is the nearest preserved to me. Best wishes to you all in the US. x
I think a lot of the steam aficionados on the Yank side look for similar steam locamotive in the UK as well. It's great to have common hobby interests across borders to encourage communication. A common hope for democracy also helps, of course...
@RailwaySeriesKB I don't think the diesel is furnishing any power- it's just there to take over in case the steamer breaks down which is quite possible with such an old machine.
@thomasrosiefan1 geez why won't union pacifc buy out BNSF or norfolk southern so that 844 and 3985 would be able to run somewhat closer to where I live
Because of this being Union Pacific's 50th anniversary of the steam program I bet they'll put every passenger car in Union Pacific's passenger car fleet on this train if so I'll be looking forward to this excursion when it visits Kirkwood.
@UPDetector thats quite a few but i doubt that they send more than more than 10 because no paying passengers / or tickets sold for any legs that I know of but the whole trip last to July 3, 2011

Thank you, Sir.

skip how close does she get to the east coast
Henryfan3 10 months ago
@Henryfan3 844 & 3985 were in Schnectady when they were built & 3985 visited Chicago in 2003. That's as far east as they've gone that I know of.

@Henryfan3 3985 has ran close to where I live TWICE & I missed out on it both times.

@Henryfan3 Warren Buffet owns BNSF train set with lots of RR track but not 1steam locomotive, he could probably buy the UP and get 2 of them
SkipW 10 months ago
@SkipW Doesn't BNSF let 4-8-4 northern 3751 run on its track?
modeltrainman12345 10 months ago
@Henryfan3 the farthest east she runs to is St. Louis, Missouri & Little Rock, Arkansas, this trip

You're video posts are awesome and much appreciated.
But I must say, I am jealous.
You get to witness these locomotives live and in person.
