tell your mom to read the book (Skinny Bitch). I know the title of the book sounds slightly offensive but this book talks about health, vegetarian and vegan diet and slaughter houses and all sorts of things. I myself am a huge meat eater but this book alone almost converted me. It has a lot of facts about health and what not. I am not a reader at all but I could not put this book down. I read it from start to finish in 2 days.
I put my onion in the freezer 30 minutes before I cut it. It won't be frozen, but it will be cold enough not to release the gasses that cause your eyes to tear.
One week before Thanksgiving, declare a race, and you and your mom compete to see who can get Thanksgiving dinner done first. Time thawing the turkey counts. Have fun!
how about adding some avocado and maybe some black beans? how do you make raw black beans? soak them, then blanch them? also, about corn, would it be better (since it's hard to digest) to soak them overnight? thanks~
I read that corn was actually a fungus and that it was not appropriate to eat...even "organic" Supposedly it causes fungal disorders in the body? Any comments? Thanks!
Have your mom help you prepare a couple of easy raw vegan dishes. There are some really complicated recipes in the cookbooks, but it feels so much better to eat simply. That corn salad makes me drool. I'm going to make it soon! Thanks, again. You guys are awesome.
Thank you for the recipe. I can't get organic corn or beans here. Is it ok to use the non-organic and wash them in VegWash? I can get frozen organic corn. What about frozen organic vegetables? Does freezing destroy the nutrients? Cooking raw offers an instant increase of counter space. Annmarie proves it, her stove is now an additional counter top. Maybe one of your talented viewers could make her a top to cover the entire surface of her stove. Something pretty.
hey vhsm, nutrient loss from freezing is minimal ... but some things are "blanched" before freezing ... which means boiled just long enough to destroy all the enzymes on it so it will keep better while frozen ... beans, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, and usually corn are always blanched before freezing ... and so they would be considered a cooked food ... berries and fruit like mango are not blanched before freezing ... xoxo
When you eat raw, there are not pots to scrub! Dinner plates are even easier because there arent as many bactierial type things on the plate. Less cooking time, and even if youre making something that takes a bit longer, on raw food, you have so much more energy from the nutritional food! So if she's worried about preparing things after a long day, problem solved! Less electricity or gas used as well right? No cooking so I would think so.
You guys inspire me to eat as close to natural as possible, like not eat things that have had to be manipulated by man in order to get to my plate. Have you any collard recipies, because I have a ton growing.
Teach Mom a few easy meals that you know! Send her your own recipes, and every once in a while cook with her! Ask her to try to be vegan for ONE week. The only hard part is quelling the cravings for the bad foods like doughnuts and pastries! That's when you make the vegan and healthy versions!
Eating healthy and knowing why it's important to eat well will help you feel good about yourself and life in general. It's easy to just brag an apple or carrot sticks for a snack. Once you start preparing food raw and get a couple recipes down, you realize that it is very easy then you simply become used to preparing food this way. Also, having a green smoothie for breakfast is pretty easy and feels great after a moderate morning workout. Best of luck to you in discovering vegan food! :)

Look how healthy she is, beautiful hair and teeth, strong arms... And non-raw people say you'll become weak and thin if you eat raw and simple.

Thank you, lisacole690, for answering my question about frozen vegetables. That's good information. I'll hold on to it.

Hey Monica!
Thanks for your comments! :-)
We like to use collards as wraps... if you go to the blog and search "collard" you'll find a few that we've done in the past!
