We wish you luck with your Prime Minister. His racist comments were pitiful and heard around the world. Italy is in our prayers. It's clear your politicians run Italy as though it were a third world country. Perhaps you too can change your government. Well ok, it may seem impossible but democracy starts from the grassroots up. You can do it!
Great video! Thank you. Obama has my vote, and my husband's vote, my cousin's vote, my aunts, uncles, in-laws and all my friends and family. I don't know one McCain supporter.

And about about religious beliefs... i couldn't read wholly the discourse of the candidates, but here in italy that is also meaningfully present in electoral campaigns as vatican is strongly influent on catholic electors.
When you say 'socialist', do you mean something like using billions of dollars of public funds to bail out banks and finance companies that made bad loans? And, when you say liar, do you mean like saying that Iraq was an imminent threat to our country, that Iraq had weapons of mass desctruction, and that Saddam had anything to do with 9-11? You republicans really have lost all credibility.
Hahahahahaha! this video is too funny! The gondoliers love Amercians because Venice you see, ONCE, was full of Americans...while now, they are an extinct species! The gondoliers know what it was like to have romantic, generous americans in Venice and not like it is now, where you only have the russians and chinese left. America is a mess, Venice in hight tide is nothing in comparison. Go Obama.
My family will want to move to Italy to be with relatives there if a Republican is elected again. We can't afford even one more year of their favoring the rich. It will be full circle since my grandfather moved to the US to secure employment after the war.
unfortunately on april '08 more than 60% italians voted berlusconi, that belongs to the right side of the parliament, just like american republicans. so if you came in italy you'd have very few chances to see something similar to a real democracy. one of his allied parties is clearly racist (i.e. it offered pig dishes to muslim immigrants...)

BellaKitty, move to Italy and see if you can live better than in the USA, starting with getting a well paid job. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Is your family moving to Italy to live with relativesw? How about having their own place instead, like here in the USA, huh? Do you know that in Italy people can't even get a job? Pleaaazzzeeee!!!
westsiderny, why are you so hostile. Its your choice to support the Republicans, but why not make an intelligent argument, and not an attack, or is that all that the Republicans have left?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm not a Republican and never was. As I said before I'm a registered Democrat, but this time I will vote for McCain/Palin, you like it or not. Besides, what gondoliers in Venice have to do with presidential candidates in another country?. I like Mr. Berlusconi alot and if I were Italian I was going to vote for him, but I kept my little mouth shut because it wasn't none of my business. Luckily, he won!!!
I guess you need to watch the video a little closer, try and read the tshirt they hold up, its from Americans in Italy for Obama,a grassroots organization. One of the gondoliers is married to an American woman, and has 2 children both with American citizenship. This is a message from the hearts and minds of people who care about what happens in the world. They were not paid for their efforts. I guess that's difficult for some people to understand. But very simple for those working to elect Obama!
Wow westsider you sure are angry and more than a little bit misinformed. Why does this bother you so much? Isn't pluralism in the core principles of the U.S. Constitution? Free speech? A little fact checking wouldn't hurt-- according to The Washington Post, Obama was born in Hawaii a non-contiguous state but still a part of the Union. I don't like McCain for president, don't think Palin is capable but I don't hate. Eating enough fiber? Need a hug?
westsiderny: Your name is obviously a LIE. No self-respecting Westsider would consider voting for the insane old man and his religious EXTREMIST running dog... OR... perhaps you are an imbecile? or flat-out RACIST?
Don't waste your energy on this one. I entered into a useless exchange with westsider yesterday--there's no getting through muddy brains that dense. Actually wrote "a black friend told me and she konws..." what a buffoon!
what the hell do you care who Americans vote for or not. Mind your own business. Americans arent worried about Italian politics, why do you care what Americans do or dont do? Momma mia, fati gozzi vostra
Do you read the newspaper? The Asian & European economies are in a tailspin due to the crash of Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, AIG, & now WaMu. What happens in America affects the world. btw, China holds a significant portion of our debt. you can bet they are watching to make sure that we don't drag them down with us. you'd have to be a stunad not to pay attention, regardless of where you live. IMO when someone pisses in their oatmeal & it leaks into yours, you have the right to comment.
I understand your point of view and your point is a valid one. However, I just think that Europeans sweat what Americans do too much. they have no rights here, no vote, no voice. So whats the use of sweating what we do?
thats so ignorant. we all live in the same world and have to deal with the same global issues. its self centered people who care only about their nations gain (putin, hitler etc) who's politics turn into global disasters. have you even considered what bush has done to wortld peace and economy.
please try to think about other people, not just other american cause if this country goes to shit we are gonig to have to rely on them for everything.
I just checked out your Youtube page, good thing you're Italian/American. I imagine you didn't know that there are approx. 150,000 Americans citizens living in Italy, not counting the military. So yes, the world is very inter connected, and its important to care about what our "neighbors" have to say. Especially when its said in such a positive way. "we love you America" How can that make anyone angry??
What makes Americans angry is that Europeans think they have somthing to say about what we do. I had one gentleman from Germany complaining that Americans can buy guns. What the heck does he care if Americans can buy guns or not? He's in Germnay we are in America it's none of his business. Check my video on "God guns and Guts." you will see what I mean. Thank you for your response.
Please consider that Americans think they have something to say about what people in other countries do- and they call it "regime change". Plus, there are American bases in Germany, Italy etc. How would YOU like German soldiers on American soil? Be alarmed if no one cares what Americans do- it means we Americans no longer count. Tolerance is a two way street. And we NEED tolerance.
all things considered you should be worried what Italians vote, what Spaniards vote and so on..but we, in Europe, are concerned with what Americans vote almost as much as you in the U.S. are...didn't you notice? you're the last superpower in the world since 1991..
You make the same argument that my son makes, and I understand the concern Europe has. However it seems that Europeans think they have somthing to say about what Americans do. This annoys many Americans, for in truth Americans dont even think about Europe, unless they want to go on vacation.
well, I've never heard (between my friends or online) about Europeans that wants to have a say in America's decisions, so I hadn't thought of that, but I suppose it can happen. I can imagine only too well how maddening it would be if a foreign country wanted to influence decisions in mine, since it happened to Italy a lot during last century,
but anyway,I only wanted to say that it's natural, I would say 'sane',4 Europeans to be interested in U.S. politics (&viceversa), not to 'meddle' in it :)
PensaloBien -- I want to thank you for your precise and intelligent response and explanations to my comments. It is annoying when I get an e-mail from a European saying that Americans should't have guns or somthing like that. It seems everyone is focused on us.
Yes, everyone is focused on the US. When a person, or a country is a leader they will be praised, and if need be, at times doubted and criticized. They will be looked to as an example, and if they seem to fall short, the observers may be disappointed. This should be seen as a plus, not as taking away, or intervening. You need to be proud that so many people are interested in what happens in the US. I would be more concerned if nobody was paying attention.
does the word "coup" mean anything? we have "meddled" in elections all over the world: Iran, Pakistan,Chile, Nicaragua, Vietnam. I for one, as an American, welcome the idea of not being hated around the world and having a President who is respected.
Well Vito, I think the argument is that Europeans or other Non-Americans don't want to intrude or make a decision on American Politics or Policy. Maybe the real "dilema" is that the majority of Americans don't consider anything that happens outside the US bounderies, if it doesn't "directly" effect them, it doesn't matter. That in Italian is menefregismo or I could care less. Maybe many Europeans realize that we are all directly or indirectly dependant on one another, and therefore the interest.
Speak for yourself scrambiano. Who we have for President DOES affect those in other countries ... and what happens there DOES affect us ... so I agree with PensaloBien ...
Even the Italians have it correct! Yes, not only does the US need Barack Obama and Joe Biden to right the ship, but the world needs them as well. VOTE INTELLIGENTLY - Vote for Obama/Biden!
Grazie!
kidding? No. Or at least i certainly hope not. I am an American very much in love with Italy, and for EXACTLY these kinds of sweet gestures. I treasure my memories of my visits to Italy because all the history and beauty of this magical country is accompanied by both the passion and utter sweetness of its culture. If we can't take in this gesture (a very appropriate gift, btw, coming from this ancient and powerful culture)..the offering of a sweet song to say "we're with you," it's our sad loss.
Obama supporter here. Love the video and support, but question for europeans at large. Instead of telling Americans how to vote, why dont you remove your own right wing nutjobs proto-dictators like Burlesconi and the like. Europeans love Obama, but only as an idea of what America can reprsent. Obama would NEVER be elected Prime Minister of any European nation. Why dont you guys look in the mirror instead of criticizing America for all of its faults
Our message is that If Americans are able to make a real change, than the possibility is even greater for change around the globe. Europe watches closely what happens in the US, and if you remember the crowds in Berlin, well, I think a candidate like Obama would win.
I do have a friend in Italy who tried very hard to get rid of that facist idiot. Please don't criticize Europeans at large for their nutjobs. Look at the nutjob we've had for the past 8 years; even worse, look at the 2 airheads that millions will still vote for in 39 days!!
As an American for Obama living in North Carolina I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have cousins in Torino. My sister recently visited Torino and Venice so I sent her the video. The world is truly a Global Village. Your video helps to keep our spirits up. The opposition is getting nasty.
Grazie, grazie, this is hilarious and touching at the same time. After 8 years of Bush, Abu Ghraib, the suspension of habeas corpus, military tribunals, bullying unilateralism, paranoia and religious fanaticism I have come to assume that the world hates us, so it's nice to hear that you are still hoping to get back the real America.
My grandparents were born in Italy, and I hope to visit you guys one day.
It doesn't. And I just thought you should know that your ignorant remarks were even more ignorant than you probably realize: You really have been referring to people as pieces of fabric, OK?

LOVE IT!!
My family will want to move to Italy to be with relatives there if a Republican is elected again. We can't afford even one more year of their favoring the rich. It will be full circle since my grandfather moved to the US to secure employment after the war.
BellaKitty 3 years ago 4
unfortunately on april '08 more than 60% italians voted berlusconi, that belongs to the right side of the parliament, just like american republicans. so if you came in italy you'd have very few chances to see something similar to a real democracy. one of his allied parties is clearly racist (i.e. it offered pig dishes to muslim immigrants...)

Pleaaazzzeeee!!!
westsiderny 3 years ago
westsiderny, why are you so hostile. Its your choice to support the Republicans, but why not make an intelligent argument, and not an attack, or is that all that the Republicans have left?

I'm not a Republican and never was. As I said before I'm a registered Democrat, but this time I will vote for McCain/Palin, you like it or not. Besides, what gondoliers in Venice have to do with presidential candidates in another country?. I like Mr. Berlusconi alot and if I were Italian I was going to vote for him, but I kept my little mouth shut because it wasn't none of my business. Luckily, he won!!!
westsiderny 3 years ago
I guess you need to watch the video a little closer, try and read the tshirt they hold up, its from Americans in Italy for Obama,a grassroots organization. One of the gondoliers is married to an American woman, and has 2 children both with American citizenship. This is a message from the hearts and minds of people who care about what happens in the world. They were not paid for their efforts. I guess that's difficult for some people to understand. But very simple for those working to elect Obama!
marieohanesiannardin 3 years ago

OR... perhaps you are an imbecile? or flat-out RACIST?

what the hell do you care who Americans vote for or not. Mind your own business. Americans arent worried about Italian politics, why do you care what Americans do or dont do? Momma mia, fati gozzi vostra
scrambiano 3 years ago
Do you read the newspaper? The Asian & European economies are in a tailspin due to the crash of Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, AIG, & now WaMu. What happens in America affects the world. btw, China holds a significant portion of our debt. you can bet they are watching to make sure that we don't drag them down with us. you'd have to be a stunad not to pay attention, regardless of where you live. IMO when someone pisses in their oatmeal & it leaks into yours, you have the right to comment.
astaweb 3 years ago
I understand your point of view and your point is a valid one. However, I just think that Europeans sweat what Americans do too much. they have no rights here, no vote, no voice. So whats the use of sweating what we do?
scrambiano 3 years ago
thats so ignorant. we all live in the same world and have to deal with the same global issues. its self centered people who care only about their nations gain (putin, hitler etc) who's politics turn into global disasters. have you even considered what bush has done to wortld peace and economy.
please try to think about other people, not just other american cause if this country goes to shit we are gonig to have to rely on them for everything.
greenapplesmirnoff 3 years ago
Ciao Vito,
I just checked out your Youtube page, good thing you're Italian/American. I imagine you didn't know that there are approx. 150,000 Americans citizens living in Italy, not counting the military. So yes, the world is very inter connected, and its important to care about what our "neighbors" have to say. Especially when its said in such a positive way. "we love you America" How can that make anyone angry??
marieohanesiannardin 3 years ago
What makes Americans angry is that Europeans think they have somthing to say about what we do. I had one gentleman from Germany complaining that Americans can buy guns. What the heck does he care if Americans can buy guns or not? He's in Germnay we are in America it's none of his business. Check my video on "God guns and Guts." you will see what I mean. Thank you for your response.
scrambiano 3 years ago
Please consider that Americans think they have something to say about what people in other countries do- and they call it "regime change". Plus, there are American bases in Germany, Italy etc. How would YOU like German soldiers on American soil? Be alarmed if no one cares what Americans do- it means we Americans no longer count. Tolerance is a two way street. And we NEED tolerance.
windofmarch 3 years ago 2
all things considered you should be worried what Italians vote, what Spaniards vote and so on..but we, in Europe, are concerned with what Americans vote almost as much as you in the U.S. are...didn't you notice? you're the last superpower in the world since 1991..
PensaloBien 3 years ago
You make the same argument that my son makes, and I understand the concern Europe has. However it seems that Europeans think they have somthing to say about what Americans do. This annoys many Americans, for in truth Americans dont even think about Europe, unless they want to go on vacation.
scrambiano 3 years ago
well, I've never heard (between my friends or online) about Europeans that wants to have a say in America's decisions, so I hadn't thought of that, but I suppose it can happen.
PensaloBien 3 years ago
PensaloBien -- I want to thank you for your precise and intelligent response and explanations to my comments. It is annoying when I get an e-mail from a European saying that Americans should't have guns or somthing like that. It seems everyone is focused on us.
scrambiano 3 years ago
Yes, everyone is focused on the US. When a person, or a country is a leader they will be praised, and if need be, at times doubted and criticized. They will be looked to as an example, and if they seem to fall short, the observers may be disappointed. This should be seen as a plus, not as taking away, or intervening. You need to be proud that so many people are interested in what happens in the US. I would be more concerned if nobody was paying attention.
marieohanesiannardin 3 years ago
does the word "coup" mean anything? we have "meddled" in elections all over the world: Iran, Pakistan,Chile, Nicaragua, Vietnam. I for one, as an American, welcome the idea of not being hated around the world and having a President who is respected.
WrytchusAnger 3 years ago
Well Vito, I think the argument is that Europeans or other Non-Americans don't want to intrude or make a decision on American Politics or Policy. Maybe the real "dilema" is that the majority of Americans don't consider anything that happens outside the US bounderies, if it doesn't "directly" effect them, it doesn't matter. That in Italian is menefregismo or I could care less. Maybe many Europeans realize that we are all directly or indirectly dependant on one another, and therefore the interest.
marieohanesiannardin 3 years ago
Speak for yourself scrambiano. Who we have for President DOES affect those in other countries ... and what happens there DOES affect us ... so I agree with PensaloBien ...
Goooo Obama!!!!

Grazie!

kidding?

Why dont you guys look in the mirror instead of criticizing America for all of its faults
edosux 3 years ago
Our message is that If Americans are able to make a real change, than the possibility is even greater for change around the globe. Europe watches closely what happens in the US, and if you remember the crowds in Berlin, well, I think a candidate like Obama would win.
marieohanesiannardin 3 years ago
I do have a friend in Italy who tried very hard to get rid of that facist idiot. Please don't criticize Europeans at large for their nutjobs. Look at the nutjob we've had for the past 8 years; even worse, look at the 2 airheads that millions will still vote for in 39 days!!
