i used to think this was so amazing and wondered "wow in the future we will be using this same technology" now, it is not impressive and i go play free rider lol.. time and technology moves so fast!
Holy cow! That is wonderful software! Is it available for purchase anywhere? I've seen the software where you can use a laser pen, projector, camera and laptop with this other software to draw on buildings using your laser pen, and your laptops software will track the pen through the camera and put it out via the projector (in a sense looking like you're drawing on the building with the pen) .... but your video way beats that OLD technology!
Yes, manual technology may be more reliable than computers, but this is more than likely intended to be used to aid drafting/engineering, not do the job for you...
It kills hours of work and helps these engineers visualize a scenario and test if it works before they have people burn thousands of dollars blowing something up to realize it wasnt going to work out.
Going to have to agree that while FEA and computers are invaluable tools, there is something that has been lost in the artisanship of design using CAD. And if you look at people who came from the generation of actual drafting - you'll find they picture the mechanism or device much better in their head than those experienced engineers who designed it with software. Its truly an interesting thing. Dont know if its good or bad...just sayin.
this thing's fake, since in the video's last part, he shows that the marble fall into a spring hung bucket. The mass of balls and spring constant of spring was not specified. So how did the computer showed the deflection without knowing these things?
yeah uhmmm its called welcome to the 21st century - we have things like Computer Aided Drafting, Finite Element Analysis and Computer Algebraic Systems. All things that reduce design and testing times to a fraction of what they would be with out such technologies. They help build better, safer and cheaper products. If you don't like it than move to Soviet Russia, where they used slide rules in all their math, physic and engineering classes up until 1991.
computer aided design, engineering, and drafting is fine. But if the engineers don't understand the physics and mathematics and concepts behind all of the inputs and outputs, the data will be misunderstood, or worse, mis-applied.
Nothing is more dangerous than giving a team of untrained and unqualified people access to fancy software they don't understand. They just pretend they do. They never learned the theory behind the pretty software.
Well of course not, that's why we have things like a Bachelors of Science, Government mandated and regulated licensing requirements and the Society of Mechanical Engineers. Most people who go to a four year college for any type of engineering learn MOST of the shit they'll ever need to know in the field. On the same token, if using CAS and FEA in the field to solve complex mathematical models in a fraction of the time with a greater deal of accuracy than why not? Do you use a calculator?
You seem like an asshole who really doesn't know what he's talking... Looking for a place to vent his excessive ignorance. Do some research every now and then instead of spurting out lies on the internet just because you can...
Human genome project - planned finish day 2010-2015. Actual finish day - 2000. Reason computing power increased.
To build a vacuum cleaner it takes 3-4 years of design and testing. How much do you think is needed for an airplane? Also why do you want boeing to build new airplane model? What's wrong with the 747? Do you know how much work there is AFTER the model is built? Also boeing has been doing other things. They know better where to put their effort and it's not in a new plane.
@jaiwebs More software like this means you have to work faster and for less money. And the aid of software doesn't always make life easier, Many senior engineers in my work remember life before AutoCAD, and they said it was better. They took on less jobs and got paid MORE. We now do LOTS of work, make less, and are required to do it all in less time (i'm currently working on 12 projects, you have any idea how shit my design is as a result?)

let the computer do all the work and the students learn nothing.
The Boeing 747 was designed and built with no computers.
So were the Apollo rockets.
NASA hasn't done shit in 40 years and Boeing hasn't produced a jet on time and on budget in 40 years. Hmmmmmm
By the way, the last successful government project was the Hoover Dam. Designed without computers, under budget, on time 70 years ago.
