I remember! It was a tiny little bar on Merrick Road, maybe in Amityville. I think on the corner of Rte 110, but not sure. Wow....lots of memories there!
OK...just did a google search and the bar is now called Olies Bar and Grill, but I definitely recognize the inside of the place (spent a lot of time there...hahaha). I can't remember what it used to be called - any ideas?
Wonderful stuff. Anyone remember where the Volunteers played regularly on L.I. before playing at the RTI, in the mid-80s? I think the place was on Sunrise Hwy.
I also used to see Jeff Matson solo at Diamond Lils on the Island. I recently spoke to him in New Hope PA with the DJG Band. He's still an amazing guitarist.
before there were Dead tributes, there were the Volunteers/Zen Tricksters. Truly influenced me. Mattson is brilliant. Everyone was. Saw them at the Right Track Inn. Thanks for putting this up. Big memories and smiles.
Back in 1980-81 We used to go see a band called Volunteers @ the Agora Ballroom & The Great American Music Hall in New Haven, Ct...is this the same band? ~ Max Creek was playing these venues at the time as well.
think its time to get the band back together, come to owensboro ky...
