I have gone to cuba 3 times, all my family resides there.

As a kid I was playing with my cousins and fell and scraped my entire right arm to the extent that it needed medical attention. When we arrived to the town clinic, all they had was sterilized water. My family needs to send my family on the island anesthesia, syringes, and they need to bring to the hospital their own water, towels, sheets, you name it.

I have tried neither Cuba's nor US' hospitals, but in Spain we have both public ("socialized") and private hospitals, so in a way we can compare.

Private hospitals are like "hotels with doctors": everything is nicer and more comfortable (and expensive).

Public hospitals look and feel worse, but in general the really good teams + machinery are there.

So, in general you would prefer to stay in a private hospital, but in a life-or-death medical situation, usually public hospitals are the way to go.
