Amazing Mini-Series! I personally think it's better than BoB - purely for the music, emotion and combat in it. It may be because it is newer so the effects are better now.

@LAX, i'm pretty sure the pacific wasn't just fought by USMC. 25th Infantry Division and 1st Cavalry fought in the Pacific, along with various other inactivated divisions.

i come from an all marine corps family and i had two uncles who were over in the pacific theatre. one was on saipan, tarawa, and okinawa and the other was in the philippines. i can honestly say that there wasn't a single moment in this series that did not give me goosebumps.

The pacific is completely different in terms of how it was for the soldiers than Band of Brothers. Guadalcanal was complete onslaught of life, as the writers of the memoirs (Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge, Sydney Phillips, etc), describe it as a waste of human life. Death left and right. Unlike the European theater, the Pacific theater left the USMC alone. Pretty much, the marines were told to keep moving until you died or they won.

@TORR182 esto no fue pelicula. Era mas como una novela basada en eventos reales. Yo estoy en la fuerza armada de los estados unidos, en el Marine Corps. Todo lo que se ve en este programa es basado en los eventos que otros Marines tuvieren que vivir. Es uno de lo mas realisticos. Esto no es Rambo, nadie puede matar 5000 japoneses solo...

No it doesn't.

There are hundreds of books and a few films (flags of our fathers) on this, it certainly isn't under-represented. Its also much much less interesting than the incredibly varied European theatre, and much less important, and on a much smaller scale, and cannot be compared to the European theatre.

see, this is what happened: einstein made a time machine, went back and killed baby hitler, allowing for the rise of the soviet union, but then the ivans went back and killed einstein so them allies had no fatmans to drop on everyone, so then the japs rose to prominence too, and then there was a big three-way war which ends with nazi zombies taking over the world :D thus they made this documentary to educate the lil' ones about our history.

@fmscribs I think it will definitely get better as it goes along especially once we start getting into Eugene Sledge's story line. If you look at Band of Brothers, the action was packed at the start and petered out towards the end. For The Pacific, its the other way round. The later episodes in Peleliu, Iwo Jima and Okinawa will be fantastic IMO. This show also doesn't have the luxury of following one company, its allowed some level of disjointedness.

I'm not too worried about it. I think there will be more drama in this than BoB but I don't think it will be overwhelming and muddle the point of the series. I think for this mini-series the drama is only going to strengthen the plot and the characters. This will be Epic, I have no doubt.
