Anyway to control the shutter speed? Way too high. With most of the camcorders under $1,000 today the lenses only have a couple aperture (some have none) so exposure is handled by shutter speed.. when it's high (daylight) there is too much of that jerky snappy "Saving Private Ryan" look. Are there threads on the lens for filters to knock the light down to walk the shutter speed back to 1/60th?
@alexshdvideo Yes, there's a thread on it for filters and other attachments like fish eye lenses. Although the filters I have sadly don't fit on it, so I improvise. The shutter speed can be controlled by putting it into manual mode, with this particular video, I think I had the speed set to 4000. Hope this helps :-)
@alexshdvideo I've just had a look through the manual speeds and these are what I have available: 1/15, 1/25, 1/50, 1/80, 1/120,1/250,1.500,1/1000, 1/2000,1/4000.
@DudeVFX Yes. The speed HD-9 films at 30fps, the JVC films at 60 FPS. The JVC also offers better zoom range. The HD-9 is a 4x zoom, whereas the JVC is 10x zoom. The JVC also has a better memory capacity of 40 GB, you can also add an SD card to upgrade the memory. With the HD-9, you can only go up to 16GB via an SDHC card. Hope this helps :)
@AdamTolleTV Personally I would say the JVC is better. But, looking around, the Canon does 1080p and the JVC does 1080i (upscaled to 1080p when you connect it to your HD TV via HDMI) So it's entirely your choice. If you look around on Youtube you can directly compare the quality of the videos. In case you missed it I have other videos showing the quality of JVC. Hope this helps :)
@bmoc0129 No problem, always glad to help out :) When you say interlaced what do you mean? Have you got a video to upload so I can see?
With the video I just did plenty of close ups with the auto focus set to manual so that I could focus on what I wanted. If I get a bright day over here in the UK I'll do a guide on how to get the best settings soon :)
@Schizomanicman I sure do! I may be using the wrong terminology, but I'm referring to the horizontal (blinds) look that I get when I turn the camera too fast (which I usually won't do because I will primarily use tripods)
The video is posted as a "Video Response." It's listed as the "One Nation Working Together" March.
@bmoc0129 I see what you mean, I don't think I've seen mine do that, it's currently 8pm here in the UK and too dark to try anything similar. I would have thought that kind of thing would have been caused by fluorescent lighting, but being as your video is filmed outdoors that would rule that theory out. Could it be your video editing program? Or is it the same problem on the raw file itself?
I will try my camera tomorrow and see if I get the same effect and get back to you :)
I have this camera and I wanted to know how you preserved the original lighting with the shutter speed on 4000. I am using my camera to record marching bands and I don't like the interlaced look with the use of the automatic shutter. Unfortunately, if I use the shutter speed on 4000 it gets really dark.
Maybe stadium lights will help keep sufficient light?
@bmoc0129 I'd recommend using a slightly lower shutter speed. If you don't have sufficient lighting there's not a lot more you can do. If it's a bright day like it was in this video you shouldn't have any problems. Stadium lights should be good enough, although I've not used my camera under stadium lighting to know if this is the case or not lol.
Let me know how you get on, and feel free to ask anymore questions you may have :)
Hey, how easy is this camera to work? I want to buy one but I dont know too much about using them.. Is it easy to get into full hd mode? Does it come set upor do you have to play around with it before it gets good quality?
If you know cameras then I'd say it was easy as everything is where you'd expect it to be. Setting it in Full HD mode is easy, you just select the highest mode possible and that's it. The settings need to be switched to manual to get the best out of it, but the auto settings are good too. I just prefer using my own settings. I'll be doing another video on how to get the best out of it soon :)
@PeteyVX12 yea sony vegas works GREAT with this camera as well as every camera i have worked with =) you can get some good stuff on the JVC EVERIO GZ-HD10 i really dont like the quality it gives me in the dark but during the day with the sun is up it is perfect. So i have more to work with in after effects and in vegas color corrector
please send me an message or reply giving me the steps on how to get this high quality from the camera i got the exact same camera...and settings do you have the camera
Hi :) If you go into your camera settings and increase the film speed by pressing the menu button and going into manual setting, then shutter speed select manual and you'll go back to the main screen. Push up on the joystick to increase the speed and the push down on the joystick. I used 4000 on this video, but the faster you go the more lighting you will need. Hope this helps :)
hey man, Maybe be you can help me out, I posted a vid testing my gz-hd10 out, and mine doesn't look NEAR as good or high def. could you tell me how to fix the video?

Thanks. I have just purchased this camera and i'am having a slight problem. Basically i can only watch the clips in the software provided. The format comes up with being cpi?. Thanks. James
Go to the STREAM folder and not the CLIPINF folder. If you view it in My Computer you should see it as as external drive so you can just drag and drop your files to your pc. :) If you have any problems get back to me and I'll see if I can sort you out :)
Thanks! :) I filmed it at a shutter speed of 4000, and once I'd edited it together I converted it to 1080pmwith my editing program, and then to 720p divx to upload to youtube.

What progamme do you use to get your camcorder video to HD?
TaCTiiCaLuKe 1 year ago
@TaCTiiCaLuKe It's in the description. For this video I used Power Director 7. I've since moved on to other editing software now though.

@Schizomanicman I appreciate all your help! One last question lol...but your video doesn't seem to have the interlaced effect mine does.
Do you think my shutter speed has something to do with it or do you suspect it to be something else?
Thanks! I've watched this video like 10 times trying to replicate the results you've produced! lol

Try googling "Opteka 58mm 0.3X HD2 X-TREME" these lenses are compatible apparently :)

Yes, I've seen videos here on Youtube of this camera with a fisheye lens.

hi, has this camera slow motion mode?
samboretto 2 years ago
No, I use an editing program to slow it down. It films at 60 FPS which allows for smooth slow motion. The best I've got it down to is 60% slower.
