If you are referring to the color pattern for a wooden plug, it will definitely work. But if you intend to use the actual bunker, squid, or the sand worm it will also work but you're problem would be the casting part since it tends to fly away from the hook itself specially if your goal is 70-80 yds away from where you are perched on. That's why most of the guys out there use either plastic or wooden plugs as well as buck tails and metals. Try to learn it, it's fast, convenient and fun to use.
The best part of the year is between October 1 and November 30. That's the time you get to catch the big ones coming from RI, MA, NH & ME. We call it the Striper's Fall Run. They tend to hang around for about 2 months along the Montauk Point and Block Island before they proceed going to the south down to St. Petersburg, FL. You can also have them early May up to July on their way up but mostly teenies. Their migration is totally dependent on the movement of the bait fish. Thanks.
@Bicolanostriper dnt forget tht some of the best montauk surf fishing happens in the last 2 or 3 weekes of september.... thats when the stripers r feeding on the snappers

@bradthesk8er1 - not really. wooden plugs and plastics are the most favored along with buck tails and tins.

nice. what kinda lure did you use?

For the one I caught I used a wooden plug like a darter as it can dive deeper and gets the attention of the alpha stripers.
