  • Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events should be animated this way. The villain in this reminds me so much of Count Olaf, visually.

  • I love this. It's mysterious.

  • That is amazing - brilliant!

  • I've seen the film and the score is beyond fantastic. It adds a lot to the atmosphere.

  • A....C....PHLEM....

  • The movie was to emphasis on Arabian art and calligraphy as well.

  • I'm amazed at the many details she put into this, take that moment when the witchmaster look himself in the mirror. Just a tiny detail, but it brings so much to the character

  • Wow! This was made in 1926 when (animated) filmmaking was very limited.

The clip is beautiful. The animation is phantasmagoric and the score is absolutely amazing. I'll be watching this one.

  • 2:16 QWOP

  • 1926. yet in color

  • @BRRGames It used the very early method of color tinting, where they photograph it in black-and-white and then paint the color directly onto the film with dye. That's why Looney Tunes cartoons are in colour, even they they were made in the '30s and '40s.

  • how much acid did these dudes do to make this! This is amazing

  • These guys were ahead of their time!

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 Guys? What guys? It was made by one woman.

  • @AliceMoving I thought she did it with her then alive husband.

And I didn't know at the time that was headed by one woman.

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 It's my understanding that while her husband assisted with the filming effects and distribution, all the actual animation was done solely by herself.

  • @AliceMoving That sounds about right; thanks for the info.

  • Respekt des Kundenwerbers Le gießt Lotte Reiniger und seine wunderbaren Zeichentrickfilme von Deutschland !

  • And this from 1926 - Lotte you are one of my heroes.

  • this just blew my mind!!

  • 3rd animation ever?

  • it is! its not the best, but still good for its time

  • 3rd animation of feature film length. I'd imagine there were shorter ones prior to this release.

  • AMAZING. the villian's fingers are just horrifying. why isn't this everywhere? its just great!

  • There was a presentation of this film on september 24th at San Salvador, El Salvador but with music of the french musician Christian Paboeuf. The music was playing live with different musical instruments by monsieur Paboeuf :D

  • i wish i was there to experience that

    was it at UES?

  • No, it was at the auditorium of the german school here in San Salvador.

  • It took 3 years to make

    It's beautiful.

  • @losrchild16 It's quite timeless isn't it?

  • @losrchild16 That's like one year per minute. Incredible. We're studying her in one of my uni classes right now.

  • @helenatorr The whole film is 65 minutes long :)

  • @helenatorr It's actually 21.6 minutes a year. It's 65 minutes long.

  • wow... roterscoping at its best ... its all on a piece of glass.. holly shit i wish i had that kind of discipline. Animation on 3dsmax and Flash some times takes for ever i wonder how long it took him...

  • Lotte is a she.

  • It's stop-motion animation, not rotoscoping. Big difference.

  • holy cow!

I didn't know they had Lotte Reiniger clips on Youtube! This is amazing! Thanks!

  • Strange...
