  • YOU ARE TOUCHING IT!!!!

  • when the tube is laying horizontal you have to have the pins a certain way other wise you ruin the tube, says so on the data sheet

  • how did you manag to keep the tube from redining for such a long time? my tube glows red in about 5 seconds at 1800V AC. just check out my vttc and you can see what i got out of it.

  • @lbochtler Ah yea, i have seen your thread on 4hv (i am Arcstarter, btw). It all has to do with tuning. Once you've calculated your secondary's resonance, you need to calculate your tank circuit (primary and tank cap)'s resonance, and it needs to be the same as your secondary. Also, the wine bottle capacitor is probably pretty lossy, can you buy stuff from ebay from different countries (like US)?you can get some proper doorknob caps for cheap. If you need help finding the primary freq i can help

  • @triggerhappy77707 i know that my cap is lossy, but the new ones have been in the mail for 2 months now :(. and thanks for the offer of helping me, i would much aprishiat it.

  • @lbochtler i got it working, its in resonence now. it runs vary cool too. also im geting about 6" sparks to 7" sparks at 2KV anode voltage. the idea with the caps helped.

  • very nice, congrats!

  • Nice vid ! Watch more Tesla tech in "Wonderful electic lighting" by HorizonDelta ;-)

  • can you sent me schematics and how much winds you used on resistor with inductor and what diameter wire

  • is the mot core grounded to 1 of the filiment electrodes

  • Comment removed

  • @ubuntupokemoninc I just used the typical class-C Armstrong oscillator that is common in most triode vttcs. Check Steve Ward's site. I just got the tuning better than i have ever gotten. I have never gotten 12 or whatever inch sparks from an 811A again... I think the tube just really liked the freq i ran it at :-P. Much like the 833A likes ~350KHz.

  • where did you get the tube?

  • i need schematics too

  • what other tubes can be used. I have 1 to 150 different tubes but not a 811a.

  • Your experimental arrangement really depicts the ease at which these can be built. Suprising that we dont see more of them. Thanks for posting.

  • Doesn't it hurt to put your hand in it?

  • This is AMAZING performance for a single 811A tube, can you please upload schematics with component values (this is just an Armstrong Oscillator, right?). I'm going to go try a lower frequency secondary on my 811A right now...

  • Meh, it did not send the message. I will PM you :-D.

  • So that is what chidori would look like?

  • Yes, it's vereh nice!

I believe the streamers are headed out sideways because of the E-field around your topload. If the tip was above the sphere, then they'd go up... I think. Looks good!

  • Thank ya! I did try the breakout point straight up, and it still insisted that they go out sideward. It is definitely the e-field.

But for now, i am not messing with vttc's. Just drsstc's. Seems like that is the path everyone is taking.

  • Yes, that's what it seems. Also I really like those straight spikes that seem to be common with VTTCs and some SSTCs... hope I can make some soon.

  • Me too. Usually referred to as sword sparks... These are definitely the coolest kind of sparks, and in second place the plasma flame. That used an 811A too...

Hmm, vttc's are very simple, so i would not doubt you can get some sparks :). First time i got an 811A i made sparks within minutes, and i did not know much back then and the secondary and other components where crap! If you need help, ask. Good luck :D

  • I have that same exact large switch box. Was used on an old old old apple computer :D

  • They are great aren't they??

I love mine :P perfect for sstc's and stuff that require a driver and then power secotion, then have all your equipment like soldering irons and stuff. In other words, if you don't have one, GET ONE!! Also have a built in breaker :P

  • try to get arc from big coil with launched small coil. big coil can draw small arc

  • was this hard to make?

  • Well, i have the stuff to make it, took me about 10 minutes (including hooking the transformers up).

    Very very easy.

  • you have plans for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • were did you get the plans?

  • do u have a wiring diagram for this

  • i would love to make one of these...do u have a wiring diagram for this???

  • I will just send you a PM considering there is a remaining character count limit on here :P.

  • ZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTT Cool video

  • what is the voltage input?

  • Not sure exactly, but 2kv to 2.3kv. It is a MOT. Oh, this reminds me to update the description :P. Forgot.

  • XD :P:P

  • Thats awesome!

  • really nice tc :P
