Yeah, I'm a tenor. This song is actually a bit too low for me, but we didn't have time to get it transposed before the gig, so I just had to tough it out.
ok then then "highness" I heard must have been the coloring of your voice it's very nice. I have a very dark coloring to my voice I'm actually gonna be singing this song for my vocal class. The "I'll" at the end is like the last note of my true range before my falsetto so it's playing hell with me right now (I'm a baritone)
My advice for you is to sing that last note in your register open and clear until you can comfortably hit it in full voice.
I was Billy in Anything Goes and had to hit an F in "DeLovely" and at the time my highest note was an Eb. But, If you work on it alot you can easily extend your range =]
I think the writers were alittle out of their minds when wrote an "A" on an I vowel for a baritone!!! I believe its Coalhouse's highest note, just before his longest note!
Your voice makes me smile =] you made a cause as good as this shine with yoursinging and the choice of song was incredable!!!! just perfect..in every way
thats not dragging at the beginning. its called emotion. its from the musical ragtime. this is the emotional climax of the show. let him interpret it how he wants.
i didn't know that.. wow but he is very good and i enjoyed it i just didn't know it was originally made fro just baritone because i sung it in my school choir last year
Kick Ass! Amazing voice...and very appropriate for Matthew. Thank you for sharing your amazing gift. I love singing this as well. I sing it to myself every time I walk by the Supreme Court building...someday I'll have the nerve to sing it full voice. Check CNN...LOL
I've been doing a search for this song probably once a week since I first found Youtube. Thanks for being the first with the entire piece...and for doing a great job of it! :)
I'm so mad this song is actually too high for me to sing. But I love it.

The song was written for a baritone. It was originally sung by Brian Stokes Mitchell. This was a lovely job.
