@JediNg135 The composer of this album (the mini-series) is Richard Gibbs. Bear McCreary was also part of the soundtrack production in this album, but not main composer. I think Bear probably were responsible for a lot of the drum sounds in this album. Bear took over early in season 1 of BSG. Richard Gibbs got some new contracts between the mini-series and the full season series (a while between). Richard and Bear are good friends I hear though :)
@JediNg135 Both Richard Gibbs and Bear Mcreary composed the miniseries score however Richard Gibbs left after the mini series. Therefore Seasons 1,2,3 and 4 all composed by Bear
@JediNg135 Richard Gibbs composed the mini series, Bear was just an advisor (and did a select few compositions). This role reversed for the main TV series!
@JediNg135 Bear is most definitely the composer. He has a blog where it literally SHOWS him composing the music with his orchestra crew. Maybe Richard Gibbs helped compose the soundtrack for the miniseries, but Bear is the main composer.
Wrong sir. Richard Gibbs wrote this piece top to bottom. He also composed the main title themes for the series proper. Bear took over the series when Gibbs had to leave due to feature film obligations.
@frozensun79 Richard Gibbs was official composer for the miniseries, with Bear his assistant composer (or some similar title). Bear took over for the series proper.
@frozensun79 Gibbs did the music for The Miniseries. But when they expanded the story into a show, he decided he wanted to focus more on his works for theatrical films. So Beary wrote the musci for the season one ep. 33, and he stayed on as the music composer for the rest of the series.
He also does music to Eureka, and the first season of Human Target. He got an emmy nom for the latter. Unfortunately due to fox being assholes and cutting the budget, the went with someone else for season 2.
@frozensun79 Bear McCreary did the series as a whole, but it was Gibbs that was in charge of the soundtrack for the mini-series with the assistance of McCreary.
@frozensun79 Bear McCreary was the composer for the series's music from season 1 onwards. However, the music for the original pilot of the series was composed by Richard Gibbs.
@frozensun79 Richard Gibbs was the credited composer of the miniseries, and Bear was his wingman. Bear took over when it was expanded to a full series.
@frozensun79 it was mostly Richard Gibbs and if you have listened to most of Bears music you will know they are stylistically entirely different in their approach, Gibbs was more ambient and experimental, I would say Bear has a more traditional organic approach
@frozensun79 Richard Gibbs was hired as the composer before Bear came along, however, when the actual show came along, he had other commitments, so the scoring went to Bear. That's why with the music on the miniseries and the opening theme, it says it's done by Richard Gibbs. However, everything else is done by Bear :D
@frozensun79 Hi there, Richard Gibbs composed music for the pilot of Battlestar Galactica, with Bear McCreary's assistance. Bear then took over for the rest of the seasons, right up until the end.
There were a few composers, and Bear McCreary was an assistant. Eventually, at the start of the show, not miniseries, Mr. McCreary became the sole composer.
@frozensun79 Bear McCreary was the composer for the series. This is the mini-series which was composed by Richard Gibbs who was assisted by Bear. When the show had the green light to go serial, Gibbs opted out of being the shows composer which left the door open for Bear to take over.

@bealaneel Yeah that's right. In my original comment, I was just saying that some of the tracks have Bear listed as the artist, whereas most of the others say Richard Gibbs. I just said Richard Gibbs as the composer for all the tracks because thats what it says on the CD cover - I'm not saying Bear didn't help or compose any of the tracks :)
i remember gibbs... as if all his songs actually in the series was great, but when i downloaded it, all songs were like... almost the same. exept this one...
@quotetoe Instead we get Caprica, which isn't bad, I guess. Maybe they'll jump ahead a little bit like they did occasionally in BSG to the First Cylon War.
@quotetoe I hoped the same. It could be a great chance to make Caprica even more exciting if they decide to move forward faster into the Cylon Story in order to get into the first War and finish the series with the end of the war.
Oh, wow, the beginning of this song is played during the final scene of season one's "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down," in which Baltar sits on his chair and imagines number six on him as he twirls alone on the chair. Always wondered what music cue that was...
Gibbs used a specific cue for Six, which this track uses. NathanRomml this specific track is from the Miniseries, from when Six enters the armistice station, her first appearance on screen, and then the station is destroyed. She asked the ambassador "Are you alive?" hence the track name.
McCreary already worked on the soundtrack of the mini-series (hear those drums); Richard Gibbs was the main composer. But Bear McCreary took (TV-)soundtrack music to a whole new level working on the Galactica seasons.
@shaji20 Haha, I don't know if I can make that sort of comparison. The Imperial March is more like a domineering sort of theme imo whereas the Six/Cylon theme is more like a sort of... creepy? kind of theme? That's the only word I can think of to describe it. It is so simple it's almost stupid, but oh so effective. I do think I like the Six/Cylon theme more than the Imperial March now though.
