  • What is this fucking shit? Where's my Sufjan?? :/

  • i smell hipsters

  • Tripped Me Out ThroughOut The Whole Song. Very Unique I Can Say , I Dig This.

  • this song could be easily the soundtrack of my last relationship

  • Im probably just that douche that only likes sufjan's folky stuff, but this is just okay... to me

  • I can't stop listening to this.

  • the album is ok, but seven swans and illinoise are way better, and, ironically, much braver than this bland electronic sound.

  • @Patafisique it's apples and oranges. people comparing adz with the rest of his albums drive me to madness.

  • @thestarsnatcher i don't buy it. what should i compare this album to? this is not his first work and should not be considered as it was only because it's different. plus, he made 2-3 of the best albums of the past decade, so im perfectly entitled to my high expectations.

  • Perfect song to describe my lost love. Found myself singing these phrases over Klinik

  • This song reminds me a day when the clouds are gray and the trees are black and leafless, and crows fly over your head. so pretty

  • this really is a top album...a lot better than the earlier folk albums IMHO... i just bought the vinyl

  • I hated this but now I love it

  • I freakin LOVE Sujan..........not diggin this song at all though. :(

  • @CSClark272 Give it time ;]

I was all obsessed over his previous "folk/rock" albums but as soon as this newer stuff melds in, it's uncontrollably beautiful.

  • Was anyone else as shocked at how much better this album was than his previous works? Completely threw me for a loop. Best album of 2010.

  • @ppec314 yes, true. his earlier albums sound more experimental rather than commercial

  • @ionutreturns This doesn't sound experimental?

  • @TMaagaard listen to Seven Swans and you may understand

  • @falang78 if you are truely confident in your nonhope, in your atheism, in your unbelief, then why haven't you killed yourself yet? If you are right, then there is no difference between you being dead and being alive. As dr. Manhattan says, structurally they're the same. As for me, I choose to have hope, faith, and love, because I value life.

  • @jugjugsthekoolaidman This is the typical philosophy of a religious zealot. There is no reason to be moral but for morals sake, and I can choose to be moral because I'm a good person. I don't have to because a book written thousands of years ago by 33 different people tells me too.

  • @nitewalker1111 i have two questions for you. 1) why would you choose to be moral? if there is no god, there is no difference between being moral and being immoral. morality is subjective. "good" is a meaningless word. 2) morality, on the other hand, is objective, where does it come from? note: every sort of "new" morality (this is based on subjectivism) can be traced back to an overarching objective theme. thus subjectivism is entirely ridiculous.

  • I deserve more

For at least I deserve the respect of a kiss goodbye

  • @kelsienoodle check out butterfly caught

  • No comment to how good this is

  • Anyone suggest similar music to me please?

  • @kelsienoodle I've been looking for music like this since it came out, and there's nothing! Rufus wainwright is the closest thing I've found.

  • So amazing. So so so amazing.

  • the song for me

  • "James Vincent Mcmorrow- If i had a boat" i just did you all a favor

  • so much radiohead in here.

    in a good way.

  • i'm sorry but how can mumford and sons be up there bombay bicycle club is way more talented than mumford and sons

  • Sufjan's music is so visually-strong.

  • Sufjan Stevens

    Bon Iver

    Lykke Li

    Mumford & Sons

    Fleet Foxes

    they speak to me.

  • @TheEmerald92 ADD to that Elbow, Brian Eno, PJ Harvey, Imogen Heap and Deep Forest (who will speak to you in lots of languages!)

  • @TheEmerald92 Mumford & Sons? i can not stand them they're so forged.

  • @TheEmerald92 please dont mention bon iver, fleet foxes, and sufjan in the same sentence as the unbearable joke that are mumfor and sons :L

  • @TheEmerald92

    Hipsters

    They speak too much

  • What a beautiful song! I am really upset I just found out you were playing in Brooklyn tonight and I missed it. Keep making lovely music (^_^)

  • This song is the only legitimate answer to "Why'd the chicken cross the road?" that I've ever heard.

  • @oahmad93 no this is the answer to all the questionings of how jesus walked on water... He walked and believed

  • "I at least deserve the respect of a kiss good bye... "

More ture words have not been spoken...

  • I'm always shock to see such a ferocious religious debate on Sufjan Stevens' videos and then, after a few seconds, I remember: he is a devoted Christian. It would be nice to stop making a dogma of atheism btw -stop harassing the believers! I loved this album and this electro-pop song is just bliss.

  • i luv thee

  • Ridiculously good...

  • Dear god this is amazing.

  • @falang78 the bible is a book with history, poetry and wisdom beyond measure. if it was simply a fabrication inspired only by men, it would not have stood the test of time and so many scholars.. At the same time it is your choice to believe in it or not - you are given freedom in having free will.

  • @drifta303

But it's message is being hijacked politically, especially in the US, and the Church is precariously becoming less separated from state. Warning - possible over-generalization ahead - religious faith is the drug of the uneducated, and the addiction rates are reaching epidemic status. But the underlying issue here is much more insidious - the uneducated populace may soon outnumber the rational and assume control of a once noble country.

  • @falang78 I'm sorry I can't comment on the political nature of your country, but I do love the people there. There is always hope and hope is more powerful, constructive and creative then fear. Don't get me wrong - its important to be aware of problems, but be careful not to let your fears consume you. The best thing to do is to take positive action, perhaps call a few politicians and ask them questions or show your support

  • @drifta303 its only stood the test of time because idiots such as yourself deny all rational evidence. We werent 'given' free will its ours by nature

  • Also Iliada and Odyssey from Homer were books with history, poetry and wisdom, and stood the test of time...

So, let's built a church for Homer!!! Yeah, i 'm not a christian anymore, i 'm a homerian!!! And the first saint will be... OMG...Homer Simpson!!!

  • is this tween?

  • I wish the rest of the album was more like this song.

  • @samiamscogin or really just tons of vesuvius remixes

  • @samiamscogin or really just tons of vesuvius remixes

  • this track NEEDS to be louder.

  • Coldplay meets Bjork but somehow GOOD?!?

  • @jimmuse59 Coldplay.... GTFO!

  • This album is still throwing me a curve, but that's ok. I would rather he branch out and be happy with the music he creates that just stagnate for our sakes. However, I have to say that All Delighted People is probably my favorite cd of the year...even my 10 year old daughter loves it and asks for it all the time.

  • This is pretty fucking good - lyrics are something else...

  • He had such beautiful skills with the banjo and acoustic instruments, mixing just right with his soft voice to achieve reveled harmonics; what is going on here? The beat is great, but it sure is a step back from the artist who made For The Widows In Paradise.

  • I can't friggin wait till next saturday! I finally get to see him! CAN'T WAIT!

  • @BlackRoseRocket, BBC 6Music mate.

  • My god this is gold

  • I don't really think this is a step back, its just a different direction. I think lyrically before he was focused on this great word play using rhyme. Whereas now, his lyrics speed up, and slow down, alternating with the abient rhythm. So there's a lot focused on electricity. I think you could compare it to "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn" by Bright Eyes. The feel was still there, but with electric music, rather than tradition music.

  • I'm sorry but this is just a huge step back from Sufjan's previous albums

  • @thabrickster The best artists get the way they are by not listening to what you (or I) have to say.

  • berkum cherca ch.. berkum cherca ch.. berkum cherca ch.. loverrrrrrrrr (etc)

  • I have an orgasm in my ears every time I hear this on the radio.

  • @BlackRoseRocket Where do they play this on the radio??

  • @realpinkfan 89.3 The Current out of Minneapolis plays Sufjan quite a bit

  • students in a deep trance listening today in class, love love love it

  • brilliant.

  • this song sends me to the heavens.

  • Starts a bit like 'Man next door' by Massive Attack.

  • Awsome!!! Diggn' the cool mello-ness;-)

  • <3

  • Be careful, in any circumstance, no matter what you believe--a dogmatic faith in either a religious precept or a scientific model can be dangerous! You deny your own growth when you stop searching for deeper truth. Deepak Chopra says it well: "Surround yourself with those who seek the truth. Run from those who've found it."

  • @ward200t "Be careful in any circumstance, no matter what you believe"<lolirony

  • I just listened to lyrics this time, WHOA, powerful stuff.

  • wow this is so fucking good. it reminds me of kraftwerk. i love it so much,.

  • Does this sound like Arthur Russell to anyone else?

  • Does this remind anyone else of Radiohead?

One of the best bands ever in my opinion. They got to a point where they had a pretty loyal fanbase, and a pretty established sound. Then they changed that completely. And now they're an even better band as a result.

This album is very different, but in a good way.

  • prince, little red corvette.. just sayin.

  • Lil B approves this beat

  • I love Sufjan Stevens , my boyfriend showed me him , and I was like , whoa , and I listen to him alot :"]

  • His music is so good it makes me want to cry...

    IN SUCH A GOOD WAY

  • FUCKING AMAZING

  • amazing

  • ...:O

Don't even know how I got here but am damn glad I did. <3

  • Woi don't listen to this after a breakup.. Makes me want to swim out into the ocean.

  • Woah!

  • I just cant figure whats with sufjan's album... there's something in his music that makes me stick on his songs and i gotta admit, i kinda like it

  • I mean, it IS a good album, no doubt.

Just it's not the Sufjan I fell hopefully fell in love with.

I did buy this album, but it will never have the place in my heart that Illinois did.

  • Comment removed

  • @truthtalker49 Ummmmm are you f*cking high?? Or just plain ignorant..... Either way, you don't know what you are talking about.

  • one of the highest rated comments is by a guy who doesnt even know the name of the cd. i hate everyone

  • @thebatman92493 yeah it's bradford cox right? of deerhunter?

  • @thebatman92493

you don't need to know the name of a CD to listen to the shit on youtube.

    Suck my dick.

  • @thebatman92493 Because the name of the cd is what makes you appreciate the beauty of this music...

  • @thebatman92493 so fockin' what? start living!

  • I'm wondering if I listen to this song enough if it'll eventually just play on a permanent loop in my head. I hope so.

  • This IS a really good album, no doubt. It's just... it's not the Sufjan I fell in love with.

  • @C0smicMonkey

Real artists evolve. I guess it's up to you whether you'll follow them in their new directions.

I gotchya though, it's a different sound. Sufjan's climbed down from the fence and put the banjo away.

For me... this is the best music he's ever created.

  • Comment removed

  • if you like close your eyes while listening to his music, it feels like your in a different place, it actually takes you away. i have yet to find any music like his, with as much depth and intensity.

  • @funun2 Seriously? I'm not saying he doesn't have depth and intensity, but you haven't found anyone else with those qualities? There's lots of other great music out there, bro! Black Keys, Amy WInehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae, Arcade Fire, Mayer Hawthorne, Portugal. The Man.

  • @funun2 i find william fitzsimmons music does that too.

  • @lastmondaypast1 dont forget bon iver.

  • @funun2 I would like to tell you music, that gives you that exact same feeling... But you can only find the perfect songs, if you find them by yourself, or be made by yourself

  • @funun2 Listen to 'If you're not the one' by Bedingfield or 'Don't leave home' by Dido...

  • such a Great song! It reminds me of "Heirloom" by Brandon Snipes

  • @brookhill

or Heirloom by Sufjan off of his last EP? I agree though, one of his best, after Chicago.

  • epic

  • Euphoric. This really helps me make it though the day, I'm a caged animal and this puts me on a different level of being.

  • Where do you think the majority of western musical framework came from?

Religion, that's where. Religious song was the 'recording medium' of the time. Take it or leave it. If people want to believe in santa clause, let them. What bearing does it have on you? If your were truly devoid of dogma, you would hardly be so defensive of other peoples belief systems. Your defensive diatribe makes you seem unsure. Carry on ladies :D

  • now i see who owl city was trying to rip off.

  • @octopuscollective owl city was ripping off postal service haha. almost identical.

  • Je découvre & j'approuve, je comprend rien au texte mais... Profondeur, émotion, mélodie... J'aime.

  • Everything he did before this was good, sometimes great. But this album reminded me of the mystery and excitement of life all over again.

  • @falang78

Im gonna agree with soupinator you really need to study before entering any debate against christianity or even creationism or else you sound stupid

  • Sufjan - Someone as intelligent as yourself should not subscribe to this Christian nonsense you often allude to lyrically. Would you seek help for an ear infection from a medical document that was written 2000 years ago? Would it have divine insight? It would probably suggest a concoction of desert sand and fermented apple resin as a remedy for ear aches.

  • @falang78 but that recipe works for me.

  • @falang78 No offense, but as far as rebuttals against Christianity go, this has to be the dumbest one. If you're going to be an atheist, at least be an intelligent, respectful one, not an ignorant, pretentious one.

  • @soupinator13

You're entitled to your opinion. It might be a simple argument, but it's premise is still grounded in logic.

2000 year old wisdom should have no bearing or relevance to the modern day. That should be obvious.

    Atheists must unite.

  • @falang78

I disagree. Even if you are not a Christian, certainly you must concede that there is text within the Bible that still has relevance. Most atheists would agree that there is some truth and wisdom within the BIble, even if they believe it's mixed in with a lot of nonsense, too.

By your logic, we should discard all of Archimedes' mathematical discoveries, because it is 2000 year old wisdom and should have no bearing or relevance to the modern day.

  • @soupinator13 why is there religious debate occurring here? Thats what the other 99% of youtube is for.

  • @paralelSun You're right...let's save this one for how awesome Sufjan is :)...and not attack his religious views *cough cough* falang78 *cough cough*

  • @paralelSun

Cuz Sufjan writes with religous undertones.

  • I missed an oppurtunity here - Archimedes' discoveries were based on science and proof. They were not fables. They were principles that were clearly defined, tested, repeated and universally accepted as reality. The bible is not. It is a book. It sold well. It held back progress and human growth for nearly two millenia. It is fracturing and diluting the last great empire as we speak. It is a vestigial curse.

  • @falang78 It was because of ancient documents like the bible that helped humanity up from savagery. Its an important part of our history. Your one of those people who look at the cover and make outlandish statements, read it first. Although my belief in god has lessened, it doesnt mean I've lost respect in what is written in that book. Some of its messages have no doubt turned the hardest individual into a caring person.

  • Human nature and the capacity for empathy was long invented before some ancient text, which of course was diluted by multiple translations and re-editeding for millenia. Were we not thriving before the bible? Myth and fable did not create social ethics and societal growth. Evolution and natural selection did. Our ancestors reproduced because their inherited ethical and empathetic behaviour was appealing to potential mates. And communities are built on the backs of such people. And thrive.

  • @falang78 To sum it up. There was really never anything wrong with the Bible, a humans greed sustained. Bible or not, we thrived because we believed in something non-existant. Either it'd be agriculture or a way of life, that very unknown thing helped us survive. The bible was just another medium that helped us realize such things. Just because something is of "myth or "fable" does not mean that there is no some moral or lesson to it. Your reading too deep into things.

  • It was a medium long used for fear and obedience. I realize it's sad for some to grasp the bible's absolute irrelevance in the modern age. But, time will tell. Our ancestors will marvel at our rapid progression, attained in spite of the bible's impediment to the self actualization of the human endeavor.

  • Alas, you can sadly spew your rhetoric until you're blue in the face. But the educated know and endorse the current death of organized religion. Logic and the passion for verified truths is prevailing and always will. I take solace in the notion that my descendents will be free - some day very soon. And, I I'll never relent fighting for such a worthy cause.

  • Correction - Or descendents will marvel at our technological achievements, achieved and spread, not through religious goals but for the common good. For the community. For humanity

  • @meotoko77

Nah, the bible was a tool used to distort and subject society. Self-proclaimed clerics did what some humans are built to do - used any means for deception and accumulation of wealth. It was a method for subjugating and creating class based hierarchies (castes). It introduced and permeated cronyism.

  • @falang78 and then we all fucking die. it just gets too depressing thinking about things like this, granted it's interesting but it can totally consume your life. maybe it's just me.

  • @ant1ph0n

I choose the harsh reality of truth (an atheist existence) over a life lived and wasted abiding to path structured on irrational dogma.

  • @meotoko77

    continued...

Simply put, it was a social mechanism that if manipulated correctly, ensured the possessors to control the peasants. It also ensured their offspring's survival and path to the pinnacle of sociel order - hegemony. It was genius. Still is, for the unenlightened regions and their leaders, anyway.

  • His best yet.

  • God! It sounds just like Elephant Gun!

  • @boredincnwitd I've had those two phasing in and out of each other in my brain for weeks now

  • @boredincnwitd by beirut? not even....

  • Too many electronic samples... don't really like it.

  • It sounds like something from 808s & Heart Breaks... I luv it!

  • This song is AMAZING!!!! It's got the same sad vibe as Frederik Teige's Elevate. LOVE IT!!!

  • Is there anything he can do wrong?? I don't think so Tim...

  • I love this man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I know I'm going to get totally flamed/bashed/called a troll for saying this, but I find this entire album extremely dull and boring. All of the songs feel like they are too long for how slowly paced they are, with there being little else to the songs other than good lyrics.

  • in parts it's sounds like stuart murdoch on acid

  • Sounds like a modernized remix of Beirut's "Elephant Gun," no?

  • @friendlydonkey u are right the song are really similar

  • I'm obsessed with this album and this song. I really like where Sufjan is going. <3

    So good

  • It's cool if you're really digging this new stuff, but some people just don't like it. It doesn't mean they're ignorant or are not ready for it yet. It just means...wait for it...they don't like it. Personally, I think it's alright, could've been better.

  • compare the beginning of this to 'electric president - we were never built to last'.

  • its useless to compare the xx and sufjan, they're completely different. in this album, sufjan is just experimenting with a new style. the synth and sampler is the XX's staple. This is a completely new territory to Sufjan, and i don't think he's really trying to reinvent himself. Muscians are allowed to try different things, and this is his attempt.

  • @vicccccccxD I agree--this feels like an artistic progression for Sufjan that while not-so-obvious, has context.

  • Whats up with all these artists trying to reinvent themselves. Sufjan's electro sound is ok but he will be best known for his folk sound.

  • @phoenixmakesmehard

if they don't continue to explore new ways of making music and new sounds, they wouldn't be true artists
