Michael Bublé's "Save the Last Dance for Me" is a version of an older song, which has been covered by the Beatles themselves, I think. Nothing to do with Hey Jude.
What people need to remember is that there are certain riffs that many people know. The Berry-Beach Boys example fits perfectly. Those songs use the old twelve bar blues pattern, a riff that can be found in hundreds of songs.
@TheUltimateNoob001 a riff is an actual melody, while a blues pattern has to do with the chord progressions....yeah, the progression (or pattern) is used in many songs, but the riff is not really
Regarding rolling stones-rubinooes-avril, the classic "hey (solist) - hey (answer by choir)", is only similarity between them, and that comes from gospells, not from pop music :D
The thing is so many pop songs are four chord songs. Eventually, there are no more variations so intentionally or unintentionally older songs get recycled
The Paris Hilton/UB40 thing isn't a rip-off so much as both using a very simple backbeat. Listen to any Ska or Reggae song and you'll find something similar.
Doesn't the song Save The Last Dance pre-date Hey Jude? Also Green Day were quite open about ripping off The Kinks. I think they payed them royalties from the get-go.
One of the MOST important things you forgot is to add the years the songs were made because sometimes it may song like one band is ripping off the other when its truly the other way around
Just wanted to point out that "Save The Last Dance For Me" was first recorded by The Drifters in 1960, and "Hey Jude" was released in 1968, so I don't think Michael Buble ripped off The Beatles here, unless his unborn soul sang Hey Jude for the first song's writers.
Also, you might have included Badfinger's "Without You" and Valentina Hasan's "Ken Lee."
great post. you could have added richie valen's ooh my head vs led zeppelin's boogie with stu (they even added a tribute to mrs valens in an out of courst settlement)
I honestly cannot hear the similarity between Ghostbuster and I Want a New Drug. I guess there must be some, for it to go into settlement, but I just cannot hear what it is. I guess there is some sort of advanced musical explanation about the chordchanges or something.
Wow Green Day...with all the press Coldplay has been getting with Joe Satriani, GD has slipped through unscathed. I always thought American Idiot had places where it sounded like Leader of the Pack. Check out my vid for what I think also shows that Green Day may be more the lifters than Coldplay
You should have been a little more thorough in your research.
Michael Buble covered "Save the last dance for me". It was originally released in 1960 by the Drifters, where as "Hey Jude" was released in 1968 by the Beatles.
I HAVE ONE!!! compare a prt of green day's "21 guns" with the ending theme song of the show full house! find the music video and start from the part when the young couple start kissing and if u listen closely u'll hear! i got this from a radio station show where they were doing the same thing its weird but to me pretty cool.
@TheCooltrix Wow I noticed that last year! As a European, it was my first trip to the USA, and walking around in San Francisco I couldn't help but have the Full House theme song in my head all day. And with "21 guns" on the radio a lot, I recognized the Full House theme instantly in the Green Day guitar solo.
have you ever wish you wrote a song? well thats probably all ther problems the rubbinoos and rolling stones sound too much more alike so leave her out of this
when i saw the paris hilton and other people on i was thinking what song is it then you played the peoples song and i was thinking you were gonn play PARIS HILTON IN JAIL LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
The people in this who are like 'i didn't notice that so many songs are simular' haven't listened to enough music... of course songs are simular... there's millions of songs and at least a few of them have to sound the same, especially the popular ones... an example would be tik tok by ke$ha and that california girls bullshit by katy perry
Damn, there was almost no difference between Avril Lavigne and Peaches. If I hadn't been looking at the screen, I wouldn't have been able to nail down when you started transitioning from Peaches to Lavigne.
All the legal BS about things like this is rediculous, some songs sound alike because they use the same bars & riffs which become a style of music (chuck & the beach boys) others happen because some songs inspire others to writing, like poetry. This is easy if u are listening to a song u like while stoned. perfect case in point is 'Spirit's song titled Taurus, this is an instrumental track which Jimmy Page listened to that inspired him to come up with the words for Stairway to Heaven.
Im very sorry, but I cant hear The beatles vs buble one. That must be a miss, and tbh the huey lewis one, well, I agree that the start riff might sound like ghostbusters, but when comparing the whole of the 2 songs, its a no go. There are other songs more worthy for that spot.
1st one - Berry was given credit for the original song. 2nd one - Closely resembles. 3rd one - (sigh) 4th one - Closely resembles. 5th one - Shameless rip-off. Yuck. 6th one - The original "Save the last dance for me" was by The Drifters in 1960, and "Hey Jude" was in 1968. 7th one - Just like openaircathedral said. 8th one - (sigh) 9th one - LOL. Very close. xD 10th one - Everyone uses that riff from the Kinks. 11th one - The Avril one is a despicable rip off xD.
@mrselfdestructpart5 Funny about the 4th one (only got this far atm) is that the name of the song is DEFINATLEY ripped off Beatles.. (which is an awesome song btw, especially the bassline - the BEATLES A day in the life)
@mrselfdestructpart5 maybe so about avril but she still has the best versions of all of them. even if she did rip them off, she still better than them
Well at some point they can't invite something new cause everything already exist so without knowing a song looks like there's, a band can do another one that looks to be the same thing
About the Beatles vs. Michael Buble: Hey Jude was released as a single in 1968, but " Save the Last Dance for Me" was actually first recorded by Ben E. King and Drifters in 1960, so who took from who?
