1:43 of the clip, one of the most POWERFUL moments in Cinema IMO! Just two words from Rocky "Come on..." and the look of disbelief from Apollo! BRILLIANT!
Many people believe Rocky is about boxing and a Cinderella story. But it's more than that. It's a redemption story as well as a love story. From Rocky who want to be something ... to Micky who wants to have a chance to manage a champion match ... to Adrianne who just wants to be loved. It's about two lonely individuals, Adrianne and Rocky, who find love in a lonely world. That's what you have to Remember when watching the movie. It's much more than just boxing.

If I ever have a chance to meet Sly Stallone in my life, I would shake hands with him and thank him for this great emotional and moving movie! Words are not enough to describe what I feel every time I watch this scene....!
I have the whole collection of rocky movies but out of all of them the best one i like is when rocky gets up and apollo has a look on his face like what the **** Rocky FOREVER
Sylvester Stallone was inspired to fight Muhammad Ali vs.Wepner, to write the movie Rocky. Apollo Cred fight in this movie as he fought Ali, and Rocky is inspired by Wepner
@cesaraugustothanos I've always thought the Creed character was indeed amazing! He's an obvious reflection of Ali in "Rocky" and doesn't garner much audience sympathy as all through the film, he looks at the fight as his personal showcase at our lovable underdog, Rocky's expense. However, in this scene as the video poster points out, he is like "what the F%#?" when Rocky gets off the canvas with Conti's stirring music as a backdrop-a great turn for the Creed character (more)
@jaygill02128 Also, Creed's character in Rocky II arcs tremendously as he is now the proud, determined champion that made him a public favorite to begin with. He wants to prove he's a true champ, defend the honor of his children and gives it his all...to his demise however as he goes for the KO vs. "just staying away" in the 15th. I also love his serious, "You're going down!" mantra to Rocky in the final fight. Creed is played to near perfection by the great Carl Weathers.
The realism lapses in this scene. But I see this more like the American Dream personified. The symbolism of Rocky taking that many punches and everybody telling him to stay down and he still gets up.
@alexanderfschen I agree. No way a real ref would let a defenseless fighter take that many unanswered punches TO THE HEAD without stepping in and stopping it--especially when it's a club fighter against the film equivalent of Muhammad Ali...
@stexy5 Hey you gotta be a moron to wanna be a fighter. Look at this face. See that nose? 64 fights that nose ain't never been broken. Isn't that rare?
1. two long counts in this fight; Rocky KO'd Creed in the first, & Creed KO'd Rocky in the 11th; however, neither fighter went to his corner timely, so the count was late.
2. Wondering why Mickey tells Rocky to "stay down" after he was knocked down in the 11th? Was he conceding the fight?
@JWCFIGHTFAN Sorry. I didn't bother mentioning it was a movie, cause I figured everyone would get that from the start, without me drawing them a little picture with arrows, directions, instructions, and word balloons. Guess I was wrong. So, to amend, for the slower kids in class: (Ahem): IN THIS MOVIE... Meanwhile, guessing everyone else has already figured out the first "long count" scene is Stallone's homage to famous Dempsey-Tunney fight in the early 20th century...
2. Mickey doesn't want to see Rocky permanently injured and thinks the kid has more than proven his point. But Rocky, as we know, wants more than anything to go the distance. So he wills himself to get back up rather than stay down.
This is always inspiring, but in my humble opinion, the best scenes are at the very beginning- he comes home to an empty dump, beat up, looking at his boyhood pictures, wondering what happened- and the other part when he gets up at like 4, cracks 6 eggs, and reluctantly- but religiously- goes jogging through the night. These scenes tell so much about his character.
@Vintagedude I think a lot of people today look back 6 years, look at their life now, and wonder what happened. This economy is turning people into Rocky 5.
@Goldenchild795 Well, you may be right, but that's the power of dramatization, and it sure works with "Rocky" ...think 'emotional impact' not "realistic depiction'
@Goldenchild795 well this is back in the days. Did you know that in the 50th's the champ had to go out with a K.O and that the match would last unit he went out or the opponent did, tho i dont think this is supposed to be that long back in time lol xD
It was very touching when Micky told Rocky "Stay down" when Rocky was on the canvas. He was worried about his fighter's well-being, and then after Rocky got up and the announcer said "Apollo can't believe it". Great scene.
From Rocky 2, about this scene: "He's all wrong for us, baby. I saw you beat that man like I never saw no man get beat before, and the man kept coming after you. Now we don't need no man like that in our lives."
@leafyutube I knew that from the start and whats even worse she left her child with the Marciano's and pretended to be a virgin . Cant believe even though Paulie knew this he lied to his best friend .
@numberonecaster Don't judge the length of time Rocky was down for on the length in the clip; multiple scenes were shown during those 8-9 seconds in which Rocky would have been knocked down, climbed back to his feet, and kept going. Yes, the fight continues! Go watch Rocky!
There is only ONE Rocky film & this is it!! It was the only one based on a true story, had any element of truth in it, the most believable and the most HEART!! In fact it's the Only One with Heart!! The rest were mere sequels, like in the order of Tarzan movies!!
The most moving moment in the entire Rocky series was when he struggled to get up after being knocked down in the 14th round. That scene represented the best about Rocky and his indominable human spirit. He was clearly defeated, but refused to quit. That is what made the movie, and it's a shame that Stallone got lost in the action scenes in the sequels. Most people enjoyed Rocky because of what the character represented, NOT because of the larger than life fight scenes.
@Archangel101576 i dont think it got lost in the sequels..the fights did become more and more insane but the emotion was still there for the most part..rocky 2's finish is an insane display of emotion by everyone from rocky to mickey to paulie, adrian, his mafia boss, apollo and his wife..rocky 4 was also great when he cut the russian..the announcer makes that scene plus rockys trainer and apollos old trainer
I always get emotional by the end of this scene. it's that song. It reminds me when I was 11 and my mother took me to see this movie. I don't have many memories of just us two together when I was young but this was my most memorable I think.
When I was a kid, this was basically my motivation in life. Looking back, the rocky series undoubtedly had a simplistic theme but it was one that made you just want to work hard
@tehkao sorry for my english but i will try write, in the first apollo and second ivan, but i got a question, ivan won to apollo because apollo have 5 years without fight, and apollo realy hurt to rocky in the first and second fight, sorry for my english i hope you understand jejejejejeje
How do some people not get the point? Even if there are battles in this life that you may lose - you still MAKE your adversary give the fight of thier life to beat you. You don't walk away or quit because the odds are against you. You make your opponent fight like they have never fought before if they want to try to actually beat you. You make them respect you even if you do not win ... Rocky made Apollo fight his toughest bout ever and he earned respect even nobody thought he had a chance ...
1:43 of the clip, one of the most POWERFUL moments in Cinema IMO! Just two words from Rocky "Come on..." and the look of disbelief from Apollo! BRILLIANT!
