  • Excellent writing, Like the line "Bit of Steam there" to show the extreme bordorm in the wottit

  • Why has my lecturer asked me to watch this clip... can someone enlighten me as to how this is supposed to relate to a final year lecture on EEG/ MEG ??!

  • @keldaremington on what and what?? noone cares.

  • the near/faraway lines are, i believe the funniest lines ever delivered in any comedy EVER.

  • gary lineker can feck off and take his crisps with him

  • And the only way you can watch this clip is by viewing their advertising first. Copyright? Feck off.

  • Bit of steam there!

  • 9 people still dont get the difference...

  • fuck the adverts

  • @dig282 don't you mean 'feck'?

  • @DJGlitch64

I'm Irish/English/Canadian Fuck makes me feel better, Feck makes me feel i'm holding back, but your right, Feck suits better

  • lol

  • ARE THESE MY FEET?!

  • How could 9 people dislike this..? They are obviously not from Ireland!!

  • @KatieMorris100 They should be pitied for they obviously lead a humourless existence :(

  • @DiamondL22 Don't get me wrong, Father Ted is classic TV humour, one of my favs but this skit is lacking a little in my experience, I watched it and then saw the 460 v 9 likes/dislikes and thought this is not that funny. That's all, plse don't read more into it than that. And I could write better than this one one minute scene, hehe

  • @DiamondL22 You don't have to be a master chef to say the soup tastes like shit.

  • Father Ted is too amazing XD

    ...keep pressing 6 though :'D

  • @Miss0oxo0Alice lol Press 6 over and over .. ARSE !! :P

  • my physics teacher actually showed me the "small, far away" bit to my class, i'm revising now and i just knew i had to watch it XD

  • How did arthur mattiews and graham linehan get the brains to write these scripts. There hilarious!!

  • my german teacher is father teds son - dermot(spelling)morgan -- mr morgan

  • Arthur Mathews and Graham Linehan... we salute you!

  • Those who like Father Ted should definitely watch MY HERO (Ardal O'Hanlon) ......These two sitcoms are best in the world ....

  • @josephkavalakat My Hero was only saved from being total rubbish by Ardal O'Hanlon. It wasn't a patch on Father Ted. My Hero suffered a rather quick death when James Dreyfus took over the lead role.

  • I think I've seen every episode at least twenty times, so funny, don't know how they kept straight faces while doing it! So sad there were only 3 series!

  • Six people didn't understand that the cows outside were far away.

  • my most fave EVER comedy moment!

  • Agreed! It was a perfect little gem of a show.

Rethink: funniest line ever? Not even a line. Dougal in the plane cockpit, where the big red button has a warning sign saying "DO NOT PRESS THIS BUTTON" - Dougal's face is absolute magic. The audience immediately starts laughing because they KNOW what's coming...

  • @Naughtonator fuck off, you tube shouldnt be so fucking greedy, thats the problem.

  • @ENGLANDTHEGREATEST Advertising = Money, Money = Keeping youtube free, Keeping youtube free = lots of people watching videos, lots of people watching videos = potential for advertising.

It's not greed at all. It's a way of making profit when you don't offer a subscription service.

  • watching this ep now with my parents never seen my dad laugh so much lmaoo

  • Without a doubt the best line in father ted :L :L

  • @claff564 I must disagree. There's a scene where Dougal is watching TV; Ted, in a bad mood, snaps the TV off and angrily says "Chewing gum for the eyes!"

"Not for me thanks, Ted" says Dougal.

This show contained so many utterly bizarre and surreal moments like that. It was a perfect gem of a programme. Nothing on air now comes close.

  • @GedKelly1999 Lets be realistic...It's all pure gold :D

  • @GedKelly1999

I give you Black Books and Spaced my good sir.

Two shows that are recent (ish) and incredibly clever and funny.

Still gotta love Father Ted though. :)

  • @Revan925 I absolutely agree - I have Black Books DVDs, and I genuinely put Spaced in the top 5 TV shows of all time (the end is perfect, literally perfect). In fact with those two, and Father Ted, Alan Partridge, The Office, Phoenix Nights, The IT Crowd, etc there was a bit of a golden age of the sitcom going on there; but sadly those are all a few years ago now. And I just don't see anything even approaching their quality on TV right now. But let's enjoy, and not be negative - careful now.

  • @GedKelly1999

On a positive note. Have you ever Seen 3rd Rock From the Sun. It is by far one of my favourite comedies around. And probably one of the best American Sitcoms ever made.

@3rdWorldRckr has uploaded all 6 seasons, and theres a fair few copyright stuff in the early seasons but other that that its pretty intact. And such a funny show, id recommend it :)

  • every episode made was 10/10 but this one was 11/10

  • Just brilliant

  • Im 19 and I've not watched much of it but this is a line that whenever you bring it up with my dad he always starts to laugh. It's a good show and i'll try to watch more of it. Brilliant clip :-)

  • Such a simple formula as well Father Ted. That`s what made it so funny, as well as the odd sterotyped Irish saying chucked in there, but ney mind.

  • lol :D best show evar!!!

we had littel toy cow like that, when i played with them my brother would say " this cow is small, but the cows out there or far-away" lol

  • Once and for all...the only thing British... about Father Ted is Channel 4, who produced it. Dermot Morgan (Father Ted) originally went to R.T.E ( Irish station) who stupidly rejected his idea on the grounds of being politically incorrect....and I'm sure they're kicking themselves. It is shot exclusively between a set in London and County Clare in the West of Ireland.

  • Best episode!

  • I love it! I'm a teacher and I use this clip to show Year 7 pupils the concept of Perspective for technical drawing. Very few of them get it either.....kids these days.....I blame the teachers!!!!

  • Bit of Steam there :P

  • small far away ...........nope still don't get it

  • absoloute genius, say this when I or someone has a "blonde" moment. . ;')

  • @smilingsgood Its because he's Irish

  • The small/faraway line is completely ingenious, how do they come up with that? its so amazing, funniest moment on tv

  • if you're gonna make a man of me, please make it fast....

  • Ted: Okay one more time. (Slowly) These are small...but the ones out there are far away. Small...far away!

  • @DiceKid2008 You dont know shit friend.

  • Small - far away. Surely one of the great tv comedy moments.

  • I am very surprised to see no more clips added from this episode. It's the best.

  • @NatGrays theres full episodes on 4od anyway

  • How can they act without laughing!!!!!

  • @totallypeaceandlove Only 3 takes as well!

  • @totallypeaceandlove i think i now know why the acor to father ted died - he just exploded from all the stored up laughs!

  • small, far awau

  • The best episode of all!

  • So funny!

  • favourite episode!!!! XD

  • XDDD

    Love Dougal, he's hilarious XD

  • very funny

  • BLOODY MARVELLOUS.

  • father ted= ruddy marvulous!!!!!!!

  • LOL :L

  • what this ep called??

    love father ted :D

  • Hell

  • that was so funny "incidently, did you bring any tea bags?"

  • Father Ted always cheers me up. Its a great show.

  • i wish these clips were longer

    there hilarious

  • LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO <3<3<3

"these are small but th eones out there are far away"

    LMAO

    funniest line ever!

  • The "small / far-away" line is one of the funniest things I have ever heard in my life. It always makes me laugh, wherever I am.. If I wake up in the night, because I'm giggling in my sleep, my wife says, "small, far away?"...

.... and then I have to say, "Yes, sorry."

  • @effyleven

    If your wife says;

    "small, far away?"

when you are in bed together.

Perhaps she is talking about something other than cows.

    :p

  • @marsCubed You got me there... !!

  • @effyleven LMAO

  • @effyleven that's even funnier than the small/faraway gag itself! brilliant

  • @effyleven And you say "big, actually... and close!"

  • hahaha small! far away!

    i hate caravans lol :)

  • BelfastCityHall, this is one of the few times when i can safely say that you have NO sense of humor if you dont find Father Ted funny. Do you think its all about us british taking the piss out of the Irish? Well its not! You do realise that we take the piss out of everyone including ourselves dont you? Have you seen Monty Python? Or more closely related the IT Crowd?

  • you`re bately a Protestant hater, BelfastCityHall. Don`t take it out on father Ted, it`s only a sitcom, and damned funny it is too.

  • Bellend City Hall is falling asleep, someone wake him up and smash his fat fuck of a face, RIGHT in.

  • lol

  • "How did that gobshite get on the television"

  • I've seen some of these episodes so many times and I STILL think they're hysterical! Something really comforting about them :)

  • I agree. British comedy is the best in the world..so many classics . father ted, Red Dwarf, fawlty towers, only fools and horses, monty python, bottom, the Young Ones the list is endless...

  • I could quite easily live without tea. I'll drink it if someone makes me one but I never think 'oooh, I really fancy a cup of tea'.

  • this is soo legendary XD

    FATHER TED FTW!!

  • My favourite episode xD

  • i like it when he uses the binoculars out the window. lol

  • the small/faraway scene was good, but the larry duff driving off the cliff LMAO

  • Incidentally, did you bring any tea-bags?

    .....No.

  • if that happened to me on a holiday, i would go mental, im a total Teaholic (must have about 8 or so a day lol)

  • i <3 tea :D

  • lol yeah its like an alternative medicine isn't it? but like Father Jack is with DrrrrINKS, im like THAT with Tea lol, so would you say a holiday without Tea is Hell?

  • yeah sure is hell.... sometimes when your bored or just plain dry you need a cuppa, then you just really need another, so yeah no tea on a holiday is real hell.. D:

  • XD!

  • Undoubtedly one of the greatest sitcoms ever, however i think the small/far away scene is very overrated, a jump too far for me neways. father hernadez and ted being able to understand him gets me everytime..

  • a bit of steam there;..

  • Doesn't Dougal look out the window with binoculars to see a herd of wildebeest just after this scene?

  • yeah that is the defining moment of this absoultly fantastic comedy

  • Yup.

"Ted, you know how your eyes sometimes play tricks on you?"

  • Small / Far Away is one of the greatest moments of TV! Love it!

  • 5*****

  • brilliant

  • ''Bit of steam there...''

  • Brilliant

  • This one is one of my favourite episodes. Just love it.

  • brilliant

  • someone help me ever time igoon youtube it says youeither have javascriptturned off and wheniinstallflashplayer my computer wontlet me, my comp is windows 2000 is ittooold

  • usa ?

  • Dear ArthBhx. Its Irish actually. You should read a bit . No need to be embarrassed about Father Ted because its IRISH! WHEW ! I hope you are relieved to hear that. So you can hold your head high now and be proud of Only Fools and Horses and Monty Python.I HEREBY CLEAR YOUR TINY BRAIN AND CONSCIENCE BY INFORMING YOU THAT FATHER TED IS IRISH NOT BRITISH. (Shown on British TV, YES but Irish in every other other way) . YOU SAD LITTLE MAN! Go get help- you are probably a nice guy deep down.

  • I LOVE Father Ted - A couple of episodes and I was hooked. Shame there couldn't be a 4th series. RIP Dermot Morgan

  • knmurphy1

From looking at his profile, I reckon ArthBhx is about fourteen years old so he won't have the attention span or powers of concentration necessary to deduce that Father Ted is both Irish and very funny. My guess is that his idea of entertainment is sitting up till 4am playing World of Wankcraft online with his social outcast "cyberfriends". He is just a knob.

  • Fair Point herringfly. I shouldn't waste my energy getting annoyed with his type.

  • beautifully said :D

    WIN FOR HERRINGLFY

  • @herringfly

Thing is, I'm 14 and I fully appreciate father ted :s

I am Irish however.. And related to Ms Doyle. c:

Dad's cousin if you're wondering how.

  • @Makingblah71

Glad to see there are some 14 year olds with good taste! Well done on being related to Miss Doyle.

  • Well it's not strictly Irish. It was funded and produced by a British TV company "Hat Trick roductions" for British TV (channel four). All the interior shots were filmed at London Studio's. The two writers are Irish, but the show is an Irish/British collaboration.

  • Filmed in Britain

  • If you think anyone believes this to be anything but Irish, you are a moron.

This is kind of like the way Andy Murray is British, until he loses, then he becomes Scottish again.

The Empire doesn't exist anymore you little imbecile.

  • If it was written by and starred irish folk, then what made it british?

  • it was made by hat trick productions for channel 4.

  • no its Irish and yh i shud kno

dermot frank and ardal are from dublin monaghan and dublin

so shut the feck up moron

  • @londonoverground

What on Earth are you on about? The show was never banned in Ireland or anywhere else. it was made by Irish writers and actors for a British network but Irish channels started showing it immediately. And they still do. Rightly so.

  • @hibernica007 no, RTE refused it at first. They did not start showing it immediately.

  • have to love them :)

  • mesut

  • only 3 days till our anual holiday!!!

    july the 19th!!

  • Dougal: I've got Eurosong fever, Ted.

    Ted: Yeah?

Dougal: Oh god, yeah. I love the Eurosong competition. I just can't wait. What time is it now?

    Father Ted: Half past one.

Dougal: Half one?! And the competition is on in...

    Father Ted: May.

  • my favourite part of this episode is when dougal asks if he should turn the kettle on again, or try turn it on without any water in. the little exchange that ensues between ted and dougal is sooo funny.

  • Screw MJ, R.I.P father ted.
