when the term split the difference is said u split the difference of the two numbers. alan had 1000 charlie had 500. so in this case there is a difference of 500. when u split the difference it comes out to 250! since the lower number started at 500 u add the 250 to the 500 giving u 750 spliktting the difference. jake left out the original 500 lol
