I was introduced to this style of music at the Newport Beach American Legion this past July. The "Beachparty" headliner was The Chantays. I have craving this music since. Thank you for this video. Awesome!
The Challengers did not exist at the time the Belairs recorded Mr. Moto. Paul Johnson of the Belairs wrote Mr. Moto which was FIRST recorded by the Belairs. When drummer Richard Delvy left the Belairs, he formed the Challengers. The Belairs are regarded as the first surf band.
i love this <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 :-)

I'm a big Dick Dale fan....but I believe Mr. Moto was released before DD's "Let's Go Trippin'"
2whlgeezer 3 years ago
Is this a quiz? Eddie Bertrand & Paul Johnson of the Belairs were also there at the beginning & pioneered the "surf sound" along with Mr. Dale.
SurfCityVideo 3 years ago
Would you dispute Dick Dale's claim as "inventor of the surf guitar sound"? Who are the earliest creators/co-creators?

Eddie Bertrand....

The Belairs beat him by a few months, releasing Mr. Moto before he released Let's Go Trippin'
