  • Super!

  • STRAIGHTDOPE.

  • I've always been more impressed with EVH as a rhythm guitarist and this is a great example of that. Great tone, interesting control of dynamics, spot-on rhythmic groove, and awesome technique. It even sounds like it could be one-take. Hearing this without the band illustrates just how much of the sound was EVH.

  • load of crap

  • MR.creative,... finger tapping,speed demon,bad ass,stud muffin,of the ages.IMHO....EDDIE SO RULES

  • Wow, tons of vibe here. Cranked up!!

  • that sound he makes at 3:07 (the one that sounds like a 86' chevy chevette that needs plugs) is edwardo actually tapping the string on the magnet on the pick up I do believe? just thought I would throw that out there.

  • @dudefrombarrie not sure but it sounds like his echoplex to me...could be wrong.

  • @cobias hmmmm never thought about that. I'm thinkin' you could be correct sir

  • @dudefrombarrie Well more between the two (or in his case one)pickups, I love when he does that!

  • Fucking Love It!! Eddie circa 1980 w/ no Michael, Alex, or Dave

  • Wat would this world be if Eddies parents decided not to screw the night he was conceived.Still blown away by this guy after 30 yrs.

  • All you have to do is pan the sound to the left speaker - I think up until 1984 all his guitar tracks were isolated in the left speaker. However I am wondering how this person managed to do it without any bleed from the drums, bass, or vocals. I think its kinda funny listening to this; I've had this album for twenty years or more and I just kinda noticed how drunk and sloppy he sounds. I love this song - it's one of my absolute favorites and Eddie has and always will be the first.

  • I wish these were on i-tunes????

  • Volume swells

  • 3:00 I think he's pressing and tapping the string on the pick-up.

  • @jamo387 In a 1980 issue of guitar player EVH said he was tapping his pick directly onto the Pick-up at 3:00 to get that sound.

  • @jamo387 yep

  • There's metal music out there that chugs on the low strings faster, but i'll be damned if you can show me some more angry, furious low string playing than this song!!!

  • I Forgot The F&CK!NG Words!

  • @mcsantiago64 ha i spit beer on my laptop!

  • Those harmonic squeals at 2:02 have always killed me.

This is my favorite VH song - romantic, bombastic, gentle when it needs to be and will stomp your shit if you get in its way.

  • @TheAmericanMosaic those arent harmonic squeals, he has the strings so low to the fret board and he angles his pick and attacks really hard. one the reasons hes the best guitarist he had complete control over tone while playing

  • NOW THAT IS SOME BADASS GUNSLING'IN SHIT RIGHT THERE!!,..

  • SPOT FUCKING ON..THAT ROCKS

  • Genius

  • high crime zone..in the city of lights!!!!!

  • An aural orgasm.

  • rockn`roll baby!

  • this song proves that as great as he was as a lead player he also had amazing rhythm chops!

  • @charvelstrat81 : THANK YOU....!!! Ive been saying that same shit for decades now! I love Eddie's soloing skills, but damn why hasn't anyone ever given the man credit for being a super bad ass groovin rhythm player?!?!?

  • guitar sounds killer, eddie did have a big effect on the guitar sound,

  • @Lucicsux That isn't quite how it happened Alex kept playing Eddies Drums So Eddie turned to Alex and Said "you Wanna play my Drums i'm going to play your guitar" And that was the day this legend was born

  • There's just so many great passages and transitions in this I can't name one. That little riff before and under "I'm drinking whiskey at the party tonight...and I'm lookin' for somebody squeeze..." is very cool. What an ending too! This is the way to finish side one of your next album.

  • @kchamz roth is so cool with them, his lyrics just rock, this is such a classic vh,

  • No words can describe this sound

  • Just goes to show how great his tone was back then....before he started playing through all this Peavy and Music Man shit. He used to use actual cool vintage gear. Ah, how money corrupts....

  • it's not only romeo's it's also my delight to hear THIS

  • EVEN IN THE "RAW" FORM EDWARD VAN HALEN KICKED ASS ON THIS!!!!!

  • VERY COOL!!

  • that begin intro is the genesis of the Mean Streets intro, the tapping on the E on the 12th fret.

  • In my opinion (and I think Ed has said this himself), the gear is about 20% of the equation. You can grab any cheap guitar and plug into any shitty amp and you're still gonna sound like YOU! Same with Ed. You may be able to approximate his tone. And copy his feel and style. But it's very difficult to duplicate anything he plays exactly.

    Just my .02

  • Van Halen was really on a roll in the late 70s-early 80s

  • i forgot the fucking words!!!!

  • @motleycrue24 Even Hetfield is saying that line. Thanks to Dave.

  • In every single van halen they always have a killer ending especially that finally chord

  • @LiveAction77 Variac bro!! total Headroom out of a 100 amp 67 MarshallPlexi head-MXR-90Phaser and Fingers of STEEL

  • AWESOME EDDIE !!!!!

  • I was able to dial in dead on early live brown sound and VH2 album tone. I'll post it eventually. Listen to the live 1981 Unchained on here and that's the sound I got.

  • nehocyrrah, I know what you mean so I'll try to do my best... I've been a classic Van Halen purist for 30 years, and everytime I listen to the old stuff it is STILL refreshing and new... then I heard these isolated tracks... OH MY GOD! It is beyond the BEYOND! Now we get a chance to hear the most incredible TONE EVER unhinged and SHIT: WE all know Ed is a great soloist, but man, catchiest riffs and hooks EVER! HANDS DOWN... Ed wrote the best riffs ever!! RIGHT?

  • @falquest RIGHT

  • take your good amp and crank every knob full blast. it will blow up. ed knew how to control it some how. before it blew up.

  • No one dislike this song. :-D Understandable.

  • My Marshall amp sounds like this, and i am not kidding!!

  • @pleximanic SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET MAN!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT THAT AMP!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @danielspringnodlan

You can buy it if you want!

    It's a 1970 Marshall NOT stock!

    It's yours for 4999$

  • @pleximanic Sorry. Not got the money, but sweet amp.

  • Am I the only one in tears listening these isolated guitar tracks?! I'm transported back 30 years to my bedroom in Minnesota with headphones on desperately trying to understand how Eddie did it. He will always be larger than life to me. His guitar is like a gun.

  • the greatest tone ever .....bottom line...case closed!! EVH is God!

  • even without the bass drums or singer this still gave me a musical orgasm

  • What could anybody possibly say to this? I'm fucking paralized!!!!!!!!

  • @nehocyrrah Yeah man, I don't even think that it is debatable, the fact that Eddie is in the top 5 greatest guitarists EVER!. Give or take, a ton of people consider him to be the best and the most innovative and skillful. He is the total package! Beast EVH is!
