The best Superman was Kirk Alyn. The best James Bond was George Lazenby. The best Maverick was James Garner. The best Sherlock Holmes was Ronald Howard. The best Stooge was Curly Howard. The best game show host was Bud Collyer. The best Tarzan was Herman Brix. The best movie actor was Wallace Beery or Lon Chaney, Sr. The best comedian was Charles Chaplin. The best Matt Dillon was William Conrad (on radio). The best cowboy actor was John Wayne. The best president was Bill Clinton.
It would have been nice to see a picture of Bud Collyer on here as well as the 2 actors who played Superboy. For those of MY generation, there is only ONE Superman, George Reeves. However, I loved Christopher Reeves and they both had great smiles, but no one could give the " smile " like George. Dean Cain was fun too and Kirk Alyn did a good job. Brandon Rouche sucked. Superman would never have used his xray vision to spy on Lois. Bud's magic continues to this day. The radio show was cool.
i loved the video my favorite was dean cain because he made the character his own and i don't care what other people think of him as the worst i liked him better then christopher reeve i mean reeve was okay but that is my own opinion maybe brandon routh will get his chance to put his stamp on the character.
Excellent video this represents the history of Superman. Not only he is the embodiment of a great hero but he is a universal hero that everyone can relate to.
Great video it is amazing that Superman has stood the test of time. My Grandfather "Bud Collyer" played Clark Kent & The Man of Steel on the radio and in the Max Fliescher cartoons. Thank you for keeping his as well as those actors who have since passed memories' alive.
Wow, you're really Bud Collyer's grandchild? I love those cartoons, i think they were really amazingly done, the animation IMHO is better than some 2D animation of today. Thanks for posting on my vid.
@jlgreer62 This is one thing terrific about the internet. Meeting people who knew/and is related to people we grew up with enjoying when we were kids. Thanks to your grandfather for helping to make the Superman mythology fascinating!
I really like the video, good tribute to the Last Son of Krypton. However, I can't believe you have a petition to keep Brandon Routh going as Superman. I'm sure he will but, he didn't embody the role in my opinion. Only 2 in my mind have ever done that. Tom Welling, great interp of the development of the character in his early years. Of course, Christopher Reeve. No one will ever top his performance. He is/was Superman, period.
Sorry, George did a great job but I just don't think he embodied my idea of the character. George was great for his time and I do enjoy a classic Adventures of Superman now and then but as far as I'm concerned Christopher Reeve is the best and Tom Welling portrays a great Clark Kent trying to embrace his destiny.
differeent eras. True. Kirk Allyn is goofy to watch, but i suppose he thrilled people in the movie thetres in 1948. In fact, I watched a couple of episodes/chapters just last night as the Spider Lady tried to do him in with kryptonitet and "reducer ray " lol
Each person has their own favorite portrayer of Superman. I've seen all the actors in the part, however, George Reeves set the standard by which all other actors who play Superman are measured by.

I am sorry. To me, there is only one Superman, and that is Christopher Reeve! He looked like the character plus he had the spirit.
