Hey! This is nice :) But it was really bad that you'd cut up the bag with the chainsaw, because it got wet. But it was still very, very and I repeat VERY funny! Got any more of these fun tests?? :)
Test proves nothing, could be damage due to vibrations from the chain saw, could be moist during thawing, could be broken control curcuitry.
proper way to test would be to use multiple copys. One to use as is just as yoy did in this test, one to use after the disk have been removed from the external case and test it by using new control curcuitry and a third disk to send to a data recovery firm and see what they can do with it.
After all the prupose must be to se if there is any data left.
The drive manages things like spinning and reading/writing that it does without any instructions from the host computer. The sounds you hear are the drive trying (and failing) to read data to get started. So it was spinning but couldn't read any data. I think.
It Was Fun At Lest.. Hey I Hope You Had Your Files Backed Up On Another Drive..

No bleeps.

Can't talk to it to reformat it. Problem seems to be more severe than a media (disk) reading problem.

Are you able to reformat the drive? I wonder if you could reformat it.

If it bleeps, it's broken. It makes that as an indicator that it doesn't function.

Big surprise, try fire next time.

how long did you let the drive sit after all the ice had melted? next year and just mark where the bag is. try some thumb drives too.

if Seagate has something new for the upcoming holiday season, I'm sure a round 2 would be interesting!

Fun idea! Someone suggested I string a cable out of the ice and try to run it while frozen in.

bummer.
i wonder if it was because of the bag being torn at the end-
i had high hopes.

Interesting. How did you get the drive to spin when it wasn't recognized?
Sumguy21 2 years ago
Drives try to spin somewhat unconsciously. I just plugged it in and heard it spinning.
I think it gave up after a while for some reason.
