  • Not many bands can make the mandolin sound good in a rock song.

  • @kingslice75 R.EM.

  • Patty Smyth = Hot in every conceivable way.

  • Cool, I was there.

  • Anyone know the link to the official video? I remember it as a kid and would love to see it again!!

  • @Redfox1969

There was no official video! Just this live version shown on MTV.

  • Patty Smyth sings the warrior song.... lol... I just realize that.... She looks great with her dark hair.... hot actually....

  • wish i was there god!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic sound quality on this. Great to see bands that sound as good live as they do in studio.

  • Fantastic sound quality on this. Great to see bands that sound as good live as they do in studio.

  • simply one of the best songs ever made , I go on a spiritual trip to Ireland when I hear it. and time in grade school good and wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love The Hooters, my mate got me into them, and sadly he took his own life a month ago...Thanks for getting me into The Hooters, God bless Peter xx

  • I remember listening to this song on my cassete in my Sony walkman riding the bus on the way to high school.. I so wish they would tour again. I first saw them open for Bryan Adams in 1986. Where does the time go????

  • I'm a Vietnamese, i like this song when i was 10. Nice to see everybody.

  • I love this song. i remember seeing the offical video, haven't found it on here yet.

However, its hard to beat this w/Patty Smyth

  • Yeah,that's Rock Music

  • ever found that video? sounds kool

  • On November 24, 1987, Thanksgiving night, The Hooters headlined the Spectrum in Philadelphia for the first time. The show was broadcast live on MTV and the Westwood One radio network simultaneously, the first time the two networks had ever joined forces in producing a concert for one artist.

  • is that uncle joey from full house making love to his guitar at 3:08

  • Great song....Great band.....

  • Sensational

  • What year is ths from?

  • If I remember correctly, it's 1985. It may have been '86 though. Definitely one of those two years. Pretty sure it's '85.

  • hooters reunion!

  • Great Band,Great Song,Great Patty Smyth

    Hooters back on Tour 2007/2008!!!

  • Awesome! But imagine... music-a LIVE concert on MTV! Obviously they still knew what the M stood for back in '87

  • I wonder if John McEnroe got to play with Patty Smyth's hooters after the show ?? lol

  • Where do the children go?

    Between the Gladys Knight,

    And Doris Day

    Where do the children go?!

And who's that Dolly Parton who leads them away?

  • Lol...love how she starts singing the wrong verse halfway through. Great band, but they were always horribly out of tune in concert.

  • This was Thanksgiving 1987 at the Spectrum in Philly. I was there. Was a great show!

  • This was before Thanksgiving of '87. In fact, it was before the year 1897. It was 1985 if I remember correctly. MAYBE 1986, but probably '85. Long before '87. This is a fact.

  • Where do Patty Smyth and Hooters...

  • what year was this show?

  • 1983 ?

  • 1985

  • I agree with gageguy. Please. someone, post the studio version. Put the album cover up, show spinning vinyl, just put up the studio cut. This is nice but that's the best!

  • FOund this old CD this morning and put it onmy ipod. I had this song on my mind all day. Had to check out a video of this classic song. Patti Smyth,eh... John McEnroe is one lucky man.

  • Will someone please upload the audio of the studio version. Such a great song. I don't care what video you put with it, even if it's a slideshow of the asexual reproduction of the earthworm.

  • great vid, great song, cool band

  • Great vid, great song, cool band

  • I remember the video version & glad i found it. AWESOME memories. Thanks for posting.

  • alltime classic, especially life...

and i appreciate it REALLY to here it once again

  • Patti Smyth was almost a member of Van Halen....instead of Hagar.....betcha it wouldn't have been horrible

  • It would have been way beyond horrible! Just plain shitty, I'd say! I just can't picture Ed,Alex & Mike having to play "The Warrior" or "Goodbye to You" live in concert! That would have been simply the worst!!

  • Well I guess your life is now not scarred, and your man crush on Van Halen is safe, never being exposed to a talented Female artist heading Eddie's bunch.

I have a friend like you, who closes his eyes and air drums to every Van Halen song that comes on......And thinks it's a religion, and it's sad.....I think it would have been an awesome pairing.

Now if Ashlee Simpson was offered the job...I'd hate it.

Imagine the horror of that, a talented singer fronting Van Halen???

  • Perhaps your friend is not as sad as you. Thinking someone of Patty Smyth's caliber is capable a froning a band as big as Van Halen. Ridiculous. And no,I'm not even a big fan of Van Halen, just a casual listener. Also not a big fan of Scandal, but probably enjoy Van Halen's music a bit more. I think Patty Smyth pretty much let her career speak for itself when she simply retired from the music business and starting raising a family with John McEnroe. Imagine the horror of that?!

  • You owned Me.

I'm sure now, since you said it, that Patty Smyth has no talent, I believe it.

She said, "I suck at singing, so I'm going to do what most women do, and have children, with my husband, & has nothing to do with being a happy Mom, I just suck at music".

I'm sure if you walk out of your bedroom; walk down the hallway and ask your Mom if she thinks a female could front Van Halen, She would say "Yes Son, but we need to inflate the tires on the trailer before we talk about that.

  • Oooh, good one douche bag!

It's funny how whenever you make a valid point to a douche bag,and then hurt their feelings in the process, they always want to talk bad about your mama,or use some form of bad "trailer" trash talking!

Hilarious! Coming from someone who obviously knows so much about singing, and has Tiffany,Olivia Newton John,Cover Girls,Mr.Heatmiser,etc.. listed as their favorites, I'll take it as a sincere compliment! Hysterical!

  • Hey, I didn't bust on your Mom, just the sitaution I envision you living in.

And I'll be the FIRST to admit, I like some funky music, and I'm not afraid to like some Tiffany, Olivia Newton John, or whoever you have a man crush on says isn't cool music.

If the guy who used to beat you up in high school told you Night Ranger wasn't talented, you have no balls. I'm OK with that.

What I'm not OK with is dissing the Heatmiser video, Coolest song ever, and illegal to rip on it in 49 states.

  • Yeah, and I'd say the guy who used to beat you up in high school probably looked just like the Heatmiser, and your just afraid not to like it! I prefer the Grinch myself.

And hey, I even like some funky music as well. I just don't believe any of my funky faves would make good front"men" for Van Halen.

And a little f.y.i.for ya,I am the guy in high school who did like Night Ranger.

But,what's that got to do with Van Halen, and Patty Smyth?

  • I was gonna let this die, I aint got that much time to devout to mindless bashing.

But I have to say Judge, you peeked at my Favorite list, and don't tell me that my favorites aint the Royal Retro Rack of Cool. :-) You wouldn't be lookin if you didn't like retro.

Admit it, you perused the list, flicked away the somewhat cheesy artists, but were in awe of the serious sexy music I have going on.

Veruca Salt, Lisa Loeb, Tool, RATM, Aldo Nova, Zebra.

    Betcha double clicked on em!

  • Hey,as I said before,I like some funky types of music as well. And, I also believe, although she can't sing for shit,(I kid!! I kid!!)that Patty Smyth was,and still is, one hot looking milf. I also always kinda dug Lisa Loeb's scene. And yes, I kinda like Zebra too. And don't even get me started on Kylie Minogue, and Gwen Stefani!!

  • OK Bro, We're on the same page now. You're still a Douchebag :-D

But I like the MILF comment, Nice.

Patty Smyth sings better than she looks.

You hurt Me in so many ways with those mean comments, LOL.

But to just agree that Zebra is OK, and Nova Rocks. We just agree to disagree on some 80's artists. You say kylie or gwen as hot , let me tell you Friend, I'd knock the bottom out of that Taylor Swift, Good chances, it'll never happen!!!

  • Agreed. And a big 10-4 on Taylor, but also don't forget about 'lil miss Underwood! Also, you should check out a new alt-country group called "HER and Kings County" from New York City. They've got a blonde, chick singer named Monique, who is smoking hot,and I think their music is pretty damn good too! Keep rockin' those eighties jams!

  • Smythe technically has a very good voice. I understand that it all comes down to preference, and it's basically subjective. You don't like her voice. That's fine. But your comment is way off the mark, man. From a pure vocal standpoint, her voice is very good. How about we all get a chance to hear you sing? Maybe then you'd be less harsh.

  • I think perhaps you may have taken a few of my past "tongue in cheek" comments out of context. I happen to think Patty Smythe is a fine vocalist. The original argument was about her fronting the rock band "Van Halen". Which I felt would have been another bad idea(like when the guy from "Extreme" tried it), back in the nineties. That was all I was arguing about.

  • Hard to say how she'd have done fronting VH. She turned down the gig. Interestingly enough, Sass Jordan (another female vocalist) was considered for the VH lead vocalist job before Gary Cherone got it. But yes, Patty is a fine singer.

  • classic song ..i still have this album..and cd

  • 1986? Whoa! What a flashback! I have been trying to get this for years! Thanks dandare!

  • WoW! i never knoew Patti Smyth could sing like that! great projection. Fantastic! fulcrum100

  • Absolutely incredible! Love it, love it! Sure does bring back memories! Thank you so much for this- it`s now in my faves!

  • Thanks for this -- brings back great memories!

  • Patty Smyth sneaking on Eric? That's cute!
