Does anyone know???? I am debating among 5 kinds of 15" speakers for live music sound. JBL Eons, Electro Voice, black widow peavys, Mackie's or Beringer. Which ones would sound the best for clear, natural, studio quality sounding vocals, as well as clear bass and mids for all kinds of music. Any recomendations from anyone??
This was a huge help for me man. Thanks for posting this video. I have just recently bought 4 HPR 122i's and the matching 18" subs. They are amazing, previously I had been a Renkus Heinze customer myself. After watching your video; however, I looked into the cheaper QSC line. And loved it.
It's not a bad board nut not great. I wish it at least had a 3 band EQ. Other features would make it better for live sound as well but it is an entry level pience so you can't expect alot out of it. Mackie is coming out with a new line to replace the dfx but they aren't shipping until january or something. They have a few more features including a 3 band eq per channel. Still the DFX isn't bad for the money.
With a passive speaker system (speaker & external amp) if your amp dies during a gig then you're screwed. If your amp dies on a powered speaker you have the 2nd powered speaker to carry you through the night.
hey dude thaks for posting this...i like it alot..im buying one soon and im thinking of what youve said bout the hpr18sub ..vs the new k sub ..thinkin of getting the k 12speakers and hpr sub..by the way who sang the song @4:25..cool man
Cool, lol. Never heard of that brand before, I'll have to xheck them out. QSC is coming out with a new model. The new one is a 12" top cab that weigh's around 40 lbs and has 1000 watts program power. I hopefully can cjeck those out as soon as they start shipping in April.
I'm wondering if you think these would cut it for doing live bands (as well as DJing), using 18" subs under them? Or would the 15" version be a better option?
My current speakers have a max SPL of 133 compared to these at 131, but are heavier, larger, and passive. Two active speakers like this would be great if they could pull it off. I'm aware SPL is not the only thing to look at when picking a speaker, but these win in just about every category as well.
I went ahead and ordered a set of these. Sadly, they are a bit higher in price here in Canada, but a note to all those thinking about buying these:
QSC has a rebate offer going on these that ends on March 31st. In Canada you get $125 back per speaker ($100 back in the US I think), or $175 on any of the larger ones ($150 in the US). It makes them an even better deal.
Thanks for posting this, I have used the HPR122i speakers and was very impressed by them. The HPR153i speakers are less impressive actually. See my vids on sound too
Hey cool vid!!! glad to see you like the powered QSC speakers, they will work good for you, the only down-fall to self powered speakers...(does not matter who there made by) is if you have amp problems or loose an amp, you now loose an amp and a speaker. I recommend having a set of speakers for back-ups. anything can happen, and these speakers hate power spikes, which can happen at any location you play, Not all buildings have good power.
Cool, I'm curious to know how that setup will sound. A buddy used his original 450's with a set of the 181i's and he thought they were canceling each other out. He used the subs with sme ev's and they worked great together. Let me know what you think.
They sound really good on the video! I'm glad that ur happy with them. Right now I think I told u when we talked on the phone I am using the Mackie SRM 450's which are good. The only thing that they sound harsh with is a lot of rock. But they are great for some of the bar gigs I do, and just using them alone for small weddings! Keep the vids coming. I LOVED ur video for the american DJ competition by the way!! That was my vote!
Very cool, the 153i is the one I'm missing although I think I'll stay with my 152f's since I already have them. The amazing thing is I used these last night for karaoke and they had all the low end you could ask for. I'd easily say they beat out the SRM 450 for bass and are much more true than the mackies also.
if you ever want to sell these let me know , ill buy them :D

These are excellent speakers. QSC knows sound, and knows power..
gazr52 2 years ago
Zack have you had any problems with these speakers?
These speakers sound amazing!
I usually like the separation speaker + power amp and worried that if I purchase the 15 " version of these and the amp blows I am screwed.
So any feedback you may have would be appreciated
Thanks and love the videos.

These work great as floor monitors. Plenty of power and very rugged. I'm sure you will enjoy them.
