man.. i remember back in the day, when this song came on,.. it didn't matter what i was doing around the house. i would drop evertyhing, and flop right in front of the TV and watch me some Monday Night Football.
( man, i miss those days, no bills, no car notes, no mortgage. no drama or pressure of life.)

Frank Gifford: It's every citizen's right to pull that lever, so get in there and pull for either the Oakland Raiders or Denver Broncos (helmets clash) ON ABC'S MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!
I found a bumper called "The SFM Holiday Network" that uses the last few bars of this theme from 1982 (I agree the theme sounds very early '80s rather than 1989 sounding).
Monday Night Football is ABC. I'm a traditionalist, I didn't even like when Hank Williams began singing his intro into MNF. I still don't like it, and it's been a long time since.
@mrguystarr I never minded Hank Williams, Jr. but yes I am what you could call a traditionalist as well. MNF is ABC, the NFC is CBS and the AFC is NBC.
@gobears14 I can't really call myself a traditionalist in your sense, as I'm a 90's kid. BUT, I do like the way things used to be before the 2006 season. I see the AFC as CBS (I also like their old theme, although their current theme is pretty cool too), the NFC as FOX (without all the changes in graphics), SNF as ESPN, and MNF as ABC.
@MrDariusJWilliams I am a '90s kid as well. But I first started watching pro football in 1993 (I was 7 at the time) and that was the last year that CBS had broadcast rights to the NFC. So that's just how I view all of that.
@gobears14 Yeah, I should have been more clear. I'm a late 90s/early 00s kid and started watching the NFL during the 1998 season when I was 6. Our views are slightly different, but I think we can both agree on the fact that the NFL was more enjoyable back in our days.
Dancing With the Stars for an hour is good for the 8:00 hour, than MNF is sure But the performance night of DWTS could be moved to Sunday, with Monday night the results show. It would be a great lead-in to MNF!
@Stephen6772, TheMisterkd and slydawg221: I got bad news for the three of you: Al Michaels is now with NBC, Frank Gifford is retired and Dierdorf is under contract with CBS.
The Reason why i made that comment was because i was born on November 2nd, 1988 and the previous game was between the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts as the first MNF Game after my birth was between the Cleveland Browns and the Houston Oilers so that is the reason why NFL Network has to broadcast these MNF Games for me to learn about their previous history!!!
I Seriously think that the NFL Network should broadcast all of the Monday Night Football Games that had Frank Gifford Al Michaels and Dan Dierdorf getting you ready for kickoff along with Hank Williams Jr that was involved from 1989-1997 including the Wild Card Playoff Games along with Super Bowls XXV and XXIX what do you think about that idea?
@Stephen6772 NO JOKE FOR REAL, THIS IS THE ONE AND ONLY MONDAY NIGHT THEME SONG.. FUCK ALL THE SHIT NOW. IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT FRANK, DAN, AND AL ALL TOGETHER THAT WAS THE REAL SHIT 1986 TO 1997 PERIOD!!
@Stephen6772 That was my favorite combo as well but I've seen Gifford in interviews in recent years and he seems a tad aged. I wouldn't go as far to say senile but just showing early signs of being "old." I'd settle for replacing him with any of the following(lord I know some folks are gonna flame me lol):
Dan Patrick, Keith Olbermann, Marv Albert, Todd Christensen, Rich Eisen,
I remember that pinball machine! They had it at the bowling alley near my high school. Fall of '89 was the beginning of my senior year. And yes, MNF used this theme too, but 1989 was the first season with the Hank Williams Jr. theme, which is what I expected when I clicked on this. But this theme ("Heavy Action") is better anyway.
@SunsetSupermanRMB I'm with you all the way. The new one on ESPN has too much of a rock edge to it, too many guitar riffs. But this is perfect! It has an epic feel to it, and it's the one I grew up on. I started watching the NFL in 1998, and I think I heard this in 1999 at first, but I loved it. I hate it now, so much that I don't even wanna watch MNF altogether.
This is way better than the shit they use today

I made lyrics to the theme:
Let's play football
Let's play some football
Do you want to play football?
Play a football game!
Run, punt, pass, and kick
The ball around
Have a good time now
LogoAttitude 11 months ago
Hey man, are you ready for football?
The game is on right now
Let's catch all the good plays
And we'll see some legends
Born and immortalized into the night
Football is a very wonderful sight
That is right

"Not a very popular theme"? It was used from 1989-2005, so it must have been quite popular.

the down fall of MNF ON ABC, and ABC Sports was when they plyaed MNF music on SNF starting in 1998. It felt wierd.
