  • Christianity is simple...choose a side, the term "REPENT" means to turn from evil, if you're a true Christian you can see mainstream media is full of satanists, just look at this satanic propaganda.

  • The real question is, Why do normal people listen to both Bill and Bill?

If it's for the clown show well that's alright. But If you are listening to these clowns as teachers you're fucking lost.

  • lol, cafeteria Christians

  • Ok Liberal viewer your wrong most is in fact the right word.

  • I don't think that many Conservative Christians would even vote for Mr. Jesus H Christ if he suddenly appeared and ran for president. Here's why:

    - He was a Jew

    - He was from the Middle-East

    - He was a liberal

    - He was anti-war

    - He believed in healthcare for everyone

    - He dressed like a damn hippie

    - He hung out with prostitutes

Look, you don't have to believe that Jesus ever existed (I know I don't) to know that he was a good guy. But this really shows that Christians are really un-Christian

  • @foojuice101 Actually you far off wrong lefty (and so is MOST Judeo-Christian America);

    JESUSWASNOTAJEW(.)COM

Bigotry, racism, extremist, conspiracy theorist, homophobe, etc etc all communists words meant to silent dissent and stop discussion on important issues. These same communist that created these words were also responsible for largest mass murder of humans on the planet. Ukraine massacres, Bolsheviks, etc killed far more people ever then any group put together espousing racial views.

  • @Prothink2 your comment to @foojuice101 Actually you far off wrong lefty ...spot on bro , you tell this brainwashed so called American..

  • @foojuice101 Modern so called "Christians" don't follow Christianity, they follow Judaism, hence their unwavering support for Israel no matter what that nation does ie; Palestinian oppression, 911, USS Liberty etc etc these so-called "Christians" support Satan's little children who masquerade as "god's chosen".

    THEHOLOHOAX(.)COM

    PROTHINK(.)ORG

    911MISSINGLINKS(.)COM

    ZIONCRIMEFACTORY(.)COM

  • @Prothink2 911 missing links is the only true 911 film , right on bro..

  • There's being devout, which means you're pious, understanding, forgiving and goodnatured. Then there's people who claim to be devout, who mostly use the drape of religious bigotry and hatred to act like a class assholes to people they don't like.

  • you got it wrong. When is the last time you read the bible? The bible tells what Jesus is, but it seems athiests like Bill Mahar makes comments when they have no idea what Jesus was truly like.

  • Most Christians hate , nothing wrong with the comment. I believe in God on my terms not some man-written book, that has been rewritten and cut to oblige the "real" Christians.

  • John rocker isn't a bigot. Hes right.

  • sit down bill o riely

  • ce the meaning changed by slightly alternating a few words?

  • I think it's safe to say that No christian is Christlike! The bible has been interpreted so often that even when not properly translating a single word can corrupt the overall message? I've read it in several versions of the bible and words are altered so the next generation can be conditioned to believing that that version is authentic/ original. Ex: Leviticus. Find a really old bible and Read Leviticus 18:22, then find a new world translation bible and read the same passage? Tell me if u noti

  • Data and evidence... We have to provide it... Christians don`t

  • I do not believe Jesus Christ ever claimed to be the son of a god. He was a rather well organised but unorthodox for the time - charismatic guy and a human rights campaigner who lived in dark times and was rather good at getting his message across. This is the reason he was executed in the same manner as many people were back then.

  • @MrGiggleFactory From what I understand Jesus does claim to be the son of god, but not in the sense that the church now says. In the bible he always said things like we and referred to all people as the children of god, or referred to god as the father not only his father.

  • Maher couldn't be more right in his assessment, and frankly it's pretty ridiculous to even attempt to make a case against what he said. I mean seriously, how often do we need to see a Jerry Falwell come along and use the Bible as an excuse to hate before we agree that this is true?

People have been using the Bible since it's writing to justify hate, and have been using religion since as long as we've been keeping historical records.

  • I'm a Jedi because it's the perfect religion. You believe in good over evil, but you don't start wars, kill people over hate or are a hypocrite like most other religions. Honestly after reading the bible I can see how Maher is totally right. So many christians in the US take their scripture out of context and really ruin it for everyong.

  • We don't need your commentary. Just play the videos or upload the videos to your account. I agree with you 100% but your voice is annoying and these videos fucking suck.

  • @francispounds so don't watch them

  • @friendsofjeremy kill yourself

  • @francispounds shocking you turned out to be an idiot. Really. Shocking. I swear.

  • @friendsofjeremy Make room in your Mom's basement, I wanna fuck your boyfriend.

  • @francispounds that says a lot about you, lol. Like I said, obvious idiot. Not exactly surprising.

  • Ok, that's just semantics.

  • gay people speak english? The more you know....

  • I'd love to hear Bill O'Reilly rationalize how he follows Jesus when Jesus himself advocated forgiving your enemies no matter what evil impact they had on you. Then you see O'Reilly supporting torture.

What about when Jesus said give all your belongings to the poor or you won't enter heaven?

  • -i just did a quick search and found out that 60 percent of christians support the death penalty so mahr was right and oreilly was wrong. I think that is pretty conclusive.

  • i think most christians are FOR a combination of capitol punishment, attacking iraq, killing osama binladen etc. those three alone would put american christians over the 50 percent mark. i think bill was 100 percent correct. don't forget, i just gave you three examples but there is a huge list of things that christians can be for or against that makes them un like christ. more examples would be being against welfare assistance, against foreign aid to other people etc.

  • Haha. Bill Maher: "I'm the biggot?" Bill Maher calling out O'reilly, I love it every time

  • Most christians are not christians at all. Look at the WW1 and WW2, well most wars. Would christians do that if they believed in what christ told us what to do?

  • I'm an atheist but Jesus clearly states (Matt 19:29 ) ... And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. [end quote]

Renounce your family if you wish to follow Him. I think we can state that most Christians do not renounce their family.

  • and The USA has No Official Lang. Bill O'Reilly. WE ARE A NATION OF IMMIGRANT

  • Many christians Dont Act Christ Like. my point being the whole issue with the Gays, and bashing pple if they dont believe in your God. Personal i have no problems with Religion until Religious pple Begin to throw thier Faith at me and other non Believers or Pple of different Faith. Its ok to for you to believe in God but that doesnt mean i have to 2.

  • I don't know what language Americans speak, but it sure isn't English. :P

  • No, O'Reilly wasn't. When it comes to right-wing conservatives, ideas don't matter. Your opinions aren't even worth exploring or examining unless you are, in fact. a right-wing conservative, and that seems to be the only thing that matters. The only reason that O'Reilly called Maher a bigot is because he was professing his opinion on Christianity, an organization that O'Reilly considers himself a part of. If Maher was going off on Islam, O'Reilly would be right there with him.

  • Are you religious or are you unsociable?

Are you different or the same as others?

Do you think the same as the others, dressed like the others, cutting hair as others?

Are you hate people who are different in herd?

Do you think for yourselves or others think for you?

    Are you an individualist?

  • @Ncoficjal since when is unsociable the opposite of religous

  • Bill Maher's understanding of Jesus came from watching the 70s tv movie, "Jesus of Nazareth". Jesus said if you cheat in your heart, you're cheating. Jesus said his purpose was to separate the wheat from the chaff with a sword. Jesus said FEW are getting into Heaven. Jesus told a prostitute to her face, "you're a whore and you should stop". Jesus said the old testament is valid, but it should be something you believe in on the inside, not just follow cause it's law (like not cheating).

  • @ion010101 Actually, Bill Maher's understanding of Jesus came from the Bible. You should check it out, very good book, too bad people don't know the wisdom it contains.

  • @TabobandungT Yeah, everything I cited is right there in the Bible. It's not even stuff that can be interpreted in a billion different ways. The way to Heaven is narrow and few will find it. It's right there, unambiguous. Maher is thinking of Jesus' exhortation to treat others as you would have them treat you. That's nice 'n all, but that's not all he said.

  • @ion010101 Word, that's what Maher was saying, never mind the heaven stuff for a moment, he wanted to let it be known that Jesus doesn't support the killing of his enemies, as do some people who call themselves Christian. He just wants everyone to see that it's people, not religion, you know? Don't hate on Christianity because some people who call themselves Christians say and do bad things. Don't call yourself Christian if you think Jesus would kill muslims with a flamethrower. Ya dig?

  • @TabobandungT Putting aside that I don't understand your hipster lingo... I'm pretty sure Maher does not espouse religion. He's a radical atheist. Jesus wouldn't kill Muslims with a flame thrower; but he would declare that they're "already dead" or "the walking dead"... Religion is a convenient excuse for bad behavior. I've not seen in my life a thug who wasn't sporting a crucifix and religious paraphernalia. Everyone else is just doing it for the social life.

  • @ion010101 Yeah man, we're going in circles. I concur with you.

  • Most of the people I know are religus. 2 of thoes people are good or not two faced. I hear the people from the church at the end of my block as they go in, they act so good. But when they come out they litter, block my driveway, and they say stuff like screw mans laws. One told me to Foff because I said "please dont block my driveway". So I had a party the next week to take all the parking on the block. That ass did'nt block my driveway again. They dont like to walk a block in the rain. haha=)

  • In my mind, I feel Bill Maher may have been speaking of the "Christians" that he has come across. Did he say that? No, but Fox has a tendency to "assume" the population knows what it is saying, as well. Just my opinion...

  • yeah but bill maher is right. most christians dont ask christ like. some bigotry is accurate

  • I don't think Bill Maher would've needed any supporting evidence when he said 'most' Christians are not Christ-like..

This is one of the things you can prove to anyone by just asking them to look around..

  • LiberalViewer you actually take this seriously?

  • For those non Christians out there, we observe jesus as divine and as a role model. we attempt to be what he was. sometimes are emotions get the better of us but we try our best. It's not my place to judge other christians, that is God's place. I will say this however, the old cliche that nobody is perfect. Christ never intended us to be perfect. He judges us not on perfection, but on the direction of your heart.

  • Cafeteria Christians!!! that was good.. pick and choose what you want. lol

  • wow dude... this is what yous epnd your time doing???? get out and enjoy life...

  • I cant stand oreilly or maher but he was within the general scope using the word most but all would have been more honest & accurate,

  • im not a christian and do not follow any religion. however i feel every teaching of jesus makes perfect sense and could lead to a better life. this is why many now turn to buddism. it comes with all the good stuff of religion that makes the world a better place, without the hell/satan and the you must worship god or he'll send you to eternal tortue crap that goes with it. its the happy medium

  • I taught middle school in a Christian School, attached to a "Bible Church". I guess they would be considered non-denominational. I never heard so much gossip in any work place in the last 23 years working in the public sector. And may i say harmful gossip. i saw people jockeying for control not to help but to keep the other factions down. They lie more than my few friends who athiest, they take money, backslide so they become born again for the 5th time. students pointing fingers at others

  • @floghit right on

  • @floghit why cant people just act right without the threat of religion?

  • @K0sm1cKid because unfortunatly theres alot of people in the world who don't seem to have any morals. can some religious guy tell me why god would make people like osama?

  • @floghit I think what's even worse than that in religion is the ignorance they teach people. They teach people that their religion is true and that is the only way. They teach them to never consider anything else or to even take a moment to rethink anything about their religion.

  • @floghit

i agree with you 100%. even if jesus wasn't a real person the ideals of such a "man" could be used to live a happy life. like i tell many christians, you dont have to worship the "god" that the preacher tells you to worship(his true god could be money). we are all humans. what i do is take the good things of religions and use them for my self. one thing all religions teach is love. like the Beatles say, all we need is love

  • @floghit all of jesus' teachings make sense except for that part if you look at a woman with lust you commit adultery in your heart. That parts kinda bullshit

  • @DarkTwin567 sorry i shouldnt have said all of them, you get my general point

  • @floghit yeah i do lol

  • @floghit then why are you not a christian? you do know its a sin to deny christ for any reason if you truly believe.

  • @bigbodigga ahaha my bad, i guess im just a bad atheist, i hope i dont get punished for it in the afterlife i wont be getting...

  • @floghit Maybe this has been pointed out to you, but Buddhism does have a concept of Hell - Naraka - that would make Dante squirm. If your karma is ridiculously bad, you can be reborn into this realm and remain there for eons of suffering to work it off.

It's usually the MOST socially proactive, "all the good stuff" religions that have the MOST vivid conceptualizations of Hell because those religions take seriously the need for social reform and punishment of evil.

  • @CoryTheRaven ah really? cheers, i learn something new everyday. i revoke the comment about budhism, however my original point still stands.

  • @floghit The comment that Jesus is good?

  • @CoryTheRaven well kinda, but i was going more for if everyone followed the basis of jesus' teachings, such as the golden rule, everybody's life would be alot better

  • @floghit I whole heartedly agree. That's part of why I am a Christian. The world has to start getting better somewhere and I can't wait on other people to start.

  • @floghit See, but why not just keep all the good stuff some religions have to offer and leave the lies behind? Do we really need all the nonsense and fairytales? It seems that we can still be good people and look out for our fellow man without all that stuff that largely has been disproven by modern science. I don't believe in religion and give more to charities and my fellow man than most people I know. I just think not facing truth and facts stunts the growth of human beings.

  • @Flipper79able Your comment begs the question. By what standard are you judging good? How do you know your interpretation of good is correct? Also, you say you like truth and facts...So, what specifically has modern science "disproven" about religion? It's nice that you give to charity, but do you really know what others give? If you did you'd also know that Christians and Christian groups are far and away the biggest charitable givers on the planet.

  • @lfinndrums HA, there are a lot of Christian charities no doubt but my point is you can give to charities without the lies and fairytales. Forget about how many scientists have disproven Christianity through carbon dating, archeology, and history, look at what they talk about (talking snakes) (earth created in 7 days)(Moses parting a sea)(Jesus walking on water) ect. The christians I have met in my life have turned out to be the most closed minded, bigoted, and angry people I've known.

  • @Flipper79able These days the media is full of pseudo-intellectuals who know very little at best about what they say,(i.e. Bill Maher). Especially about Christianity. If you really want to debate, read the Bible, study some philosophy and science, take a course on logic, then be prepared to reason. Don't be the wise ass in the back of the room hurling objections and insults. Any goon can do that. BTW, what do you consider "open minded"? p.s. Carbon dating disproved Christianity?

  • @lfinndrums P.S. If you don't believe me on Christians being closed minded...go around on Youtube and see how many Christians sites censor their watchers. Either the like or dislike bar is disabled or people's comments have to be approved or it's completely disabled...or maybe a combination of the two of the three. I believe the reason these christians are censoring people is because the proof of all the bullshit that's in Christianity is overwhelming...and they don't want to hear it.

  • Really? I mean come on really? There are actually going to waste time on television debating how "christ like" christians should be? You can criticize any religion and their followers in the world......its stupid to even single one out and waste time discussing it

  • @Bryz785650 Exactly!

  • I'm a Christian, and I would say that Bill Maher brings up an extremely valid point. He could have crafted his comment better, but what he said isn't far off.

On the other hand, John Rocker is a total bigot, and O'Reilly doesn't call him on it. Listening to Rocker's views made me kind of sick.

On a side note, Bill O'Reilly, English is not the official language. The United States of America has no official language.

  • @Dormirai No, English is not the official language but we need to have a common language so the country can have a feeling of unity. Imagine if half the country spoke spanish and the other half english. if that was the case they would eventually become seperated and resentful of eacother and would eventually split apart. I believe that everyone should learn a common language in america. i pick english because most of the country already knows it

  • @Dormirai Maher is an arrogant, misinformed man. He does not have a good point. You, as a Christian should know that nobody lives their life like Christ. EVERYONE falls short. Maher definitely falls short! As for Rocker, O'Reilly completely called him on it. He asked him about his comments and asked if he would be willing to admit that they were immature. That's not calling him on it?? And, 96% of U.S. citizens speak English primarily and 82% say it's their root language.

  • @Dormirai Technically, American citizens speak Americanized English. Kinda like how us Canadians speak Crown's English, which is a slight bastardization of Queen's English the British use..

  • Bill's a fan of Jesus ?

Says religion is fiction yet Jesus is great role model..........LoL

this is what joos do. 1st Jesus is fairy tale, then they claim Pilot killed Christ not joos. Joos are full of shit !

I talk to Muslims and they never claim Jesus was a Zeitgeist hoax to manipulate masses, they say he was a wise prophet of God and know very well the race that killed Christ.

  • @euro944t fictional characters are also role models.

  • I'm not a big fan of Bill O'Reilly, but I saw him predict on what other people would say with Bill Maher. With John Rocker he judged what other people would think, so I think that he actually did give a fair shake to both men viewing it as a third party.

  • The word most should not have been used. Here's some words. Bigoted, Hateful, Racist, Slutty, Close-minded, Over-bearing. A lot of Christians I've met, one of those words describes these people perfectly. I used to go to a youth group as a teen called "Youth for Christ", not because I was christian, but because I knew the girls attending this "function" were easy. It was a great opportunity to get laid, period. Just because you're a Christian, doesn't mean you are a nice person.

  • show me a christian that is truly christ like and then after you cant you will KNOW he is right .if it was me speaking i would have said ALL NOT MOST.

  • all religion is bad. if you really believe religion your less intellegent. fuck the news it doesnt matter. shit on a dick

  • I think Maher was taking poetic license on this but I think he is basing mostly from experience. In my experience as well overwhelmingly most self proclaimed christians I know and have met are as Maher describes them.

  • The fact that we don't have a Christian left, the people who want more social programs to get the poor off the streets and into some shelter, already tells me of the hypocrisy of many Christians in this country. Christ was compassionate, helped the poor at every turn, and disliked the rich to the point where he literally threw the merchants out of his church.

Of course the Religious Right are more content with the Old Testament and today woud have hated Jesus with all their hearts.

  • @Heyprinny

We don't have a Christian Left? Are you crazy?

Have you ever heard of Liberation Theology? That's just the most extreme example. There are more "leftist" churches in the US than conservative churches. And they're all full of crap.

The "hypocrisy," or maybe just "idiocy," is you leftists who continue to think "more social programs" are the answer, even though it is obvious that YOUR PROGRAMS are the vile poison that is destroying the very people you claim to care about.

  • Most Christians are NOT Christ-like. But that doesn't mean they are not good people. But "Christ-like" is a pretty high standard. We all fall short, and some of us fall much much shorter than others.

And I think those who most loudly profess to be 'Christ-Like' are the very ones who fall very very very very short of the mark.

  • I agree with Bill maher on christians, and I agree with the braves pitcher on immigrants. Christians have got to be the biggest group of hypocrites seeing as how they are bigoted and judgmental of everything thats not white, hetero and christian. But If you come to our country learn the fucking language and assimulite to our values, or dont come. Simple as that. Not against immigrants but I am against those that choose not to assimilate.

  • @LiberalViewer actually on recent polls they had found that only 3% of Christians know what christianity is about so yes most christians are not christlike

  • I believe Mr. Maher is on the money here. Jesus Christ was a wonderful, charismatic man with some very sensible notions on how to live our lives. The Bible aside, Christ himself was a good man and if people tried to align themselves to his example, rather than focusing on the literal meaning of the Bible, we would all be better off. That Mr. Maher said, 'most' Christians don't act Christ-like is aside from the point he is making. Leave it to O'Reilly to pick up on something insignificant.

  • but I don't want to decide :(

  • @kongjonna learn to spell.

  • No one loves their enimy

  • A White, Straight, Honest and Working Man who is Liberal is like those Nazi-hired Jewish Police that kept order in the Polish Ghettos…They’re looking to snuff you out and your helping them do it. Regardless of who wins this fight; you’re going to be put down…but truthfully, you weren’t much of a dignified Man to begin with.

  • I think we'd be better off as a country if we went multi-lingual from grade school on up. Maybe then, as a nation, we'd actually have respect for other cultures.

  • ....the Most Haunted House in Australia?...zogging the GreaseBurger.....maybe.

    .

    .

    =

    .

    ..zoginated(

  • He should have asked him if he, as an avowed christian was actually christlike? He is not christlike, nor are any other supposed christians even remotely christlike. Christ himself had no time for the likes of O'Reilly. He's a rich bully. I think he had something to say about people like him and it wasn't flattering.

Christ could never be a present day Christian.

    There's no money in it.

He'd be crucified by the press......

  • Jesus said is what comes out of a man that defiles him, i.e. his actions, behavior, whether private or public. Sexual immorality will always cause the infrastructure of a society to deteriorate. What evangelicals have been successful at is proclaiming this truth. And our contemporary society has decided any world view that frustrates our new popular post-sexual revolution idea will be challenged "with most deliberate speed." So evangelicals are attacked for their Judeo/Christian beliefs.

  • Let's be honest. Being multilingual is of great advantage to any person. The average European, African, Asian, or virtually any person is at the very least bilingual. I'm a trilingual American and I still fell that I could learn more. The majority of our hemisphere speaks Spanish, so we should learn it as a basic skill. We fight other languages because it's "hard". It's amazing how Americans can feel so deserving of wealth while being so incredibly ignorant.

  • @samugaag you are right we as Americans should learn other languages. However we should learn other languages so that we are more educated about the world not so that we can accommodate foreigners. If you come to live in the United States you should be expected to learn English just as if I were to move to France I should be expected to learn French. It makes no sense for me to criticize the French for not taking time to learn my language when I am not taking time to learn theirs.

  • Comment removed

  • @samugaag It's definately useful but I still think if you go to a country, you should learn their language. I think Americans should try to learn Spanish, and Latinos in America should try to learn English. The burden shouldn't be entirely on either group. If we all try and speak each other's languages, it would be easier.

Good for you learning that many. I'm struggling to just learn a second. Did you take formal classes?

  • @JoeyisDREADful I agree that they should learn some English, but the way that Americans complain about foreign language is ridiculous. At times it seems to be xenophobia or some overwhelming fear of doing something difficult than a real concern about the ethical reasons people should learn English before coming to this country. To answer your question. I learned Portuguese in formal classes. I took a few Spanish classes but then lived in Argentina for a year and greatly improved my capabilities

  • @samugaag You're totally right on that. Americans are kind of crazy. To me, Americans are just conceited. I'm ashamed to have grown up here, and I think more Americans should be as well. We aren't the best at anything anymore, so I think we need to realize how bad we suck instead of trying to act like we shouldn't change anything. Kinda off topic there. oh well. anyway, yeah, I'm using rosetta stone, but I'm probably going to take classes in college, as well. :)

  • @JoeyisDREADful I agree with pretty much everything you said. I think a serious problem is that we have become a very media driven country. People turn on FOX News, CNN, or MSNBC to be told what they should think about certain issues. Newspaper sales are at an all time low (mostly due to the internet, but fewer people are reading them regardless of the source), and books and think tank websites which provide the best information are virtually ignored. Good luck with the language studies.

  • What ever. O'Reilly is one of the biggest Haters of everything. And very Hypocritical. FOX? - Fox is so one-sided. They think they're right about everything and everybody else is wrong.

  • @onn1320 but somehow they are not nearly as hate filled or one sided as MSNBC. Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow and Cenk Uygur are far worse than Bill OReiley and Sean Hannity

  • I think the point that Bill Maher was making was that NO American Christians actually follows everything Jesus says. and even if one did, they certainly don't follow the bible. They say that being gay is wrong, but on the same page of the bible it says not to eat shellfish. Ever seen a christian at Red Lobster? Of course you have. Have you ever seen a homophobic christian at Red Lobster? Probably.

  • @JoeyisDREADful

I can't think of a church going person I know that don't "gossip" "curse" "fornicate" - Example - today I had a customer get confrontational with me because they (not me) were not home for the appointment. - Told me "I better wait for them" (and some other things) Only reason I didn't leave is because I wouldn't get paid. - But after speaking with this person on the phone - the last thing I expected to see was a picture of Jesus on their wall. I'm like "what a benevolent soul."

  • @onn1320 lol, I know just what you mean. At my childhood church, when someone was screwing around or something, someone would say, "we should pray for so-and-so to find a godly path again, because they're doing this-and-that" and talk about what they were doing. Lol, half the praying there was all just so the women could talk shit on one another and look godly when they do it. At least I admit I'm a horrible gossip. :P

  • @JoeyisDREADful to not eat shell fish was part of the mosaic (moses) or lesser law-based on the fact that they were desert people and it was primarily a health law-when Jesus came along he said many of those things are no longer necessary as the higher law was now required-christains could now eat anything (the Jews of course still clinging to the old law) things like morality issues(fornication, murder etc) remain still in force-I am gay and believe it to be wrong also

  • @vaughangarrick It was just an example, it doesn't really matter all that much to me, seeing as the whole book is nonsense to begin with.

so, out of curiousity, why did god make you gay if it's wrong?

  • @JoeyisDREADful I don't believe he made me gay --the scriptures are full of verses that say it is wrong to be gay(yes they are there and I've read them) and it would be an awful contradiction for God to have made me gay and then told me that it is wrong--I'm am of the school that says it is part (not entirely) a product of your environment- otherwise you could argue that you are born a paedophile when in fact we all know it is an illness brought on by possible molestation--but I see your point

  • @vaughangarrick What about the evidence that has been found to dispute that? I don't deny that environment can play a big part in development, but there has been compelling evidence to show otherwise in this case. There are gays in pretty much every species, which lends itself to nature over nurture. And reguardless of whether you are born that way, if god has a plan, whatever made you gay must have been a part of it. He still made you gay. Even if it wasn't from birth, he planned it, right?

  • @JoeyisDREADful it is ridiculous that the people who are the strongest critics of religion are the ones who know the least about it- who refuse to live by it's precepts etc and those kinds of people(even well meaning ones) often get the finer points wrong and shouldn't pass judgement. I am a gay man, but I'm also against homosexuality on the grounds that I have actually read the scriptures and know what it says and my conscience has led me to make a decision-Maher blabbers without the facts

  • @vaughangarrick I make my decisions based on real things that actually exist instead of sky daddy's archaic book full of nonsense. I do just fine and, as a bonus, I'm not a self-hating gay.

  • @JoeyisDREADful The problem is that he (and u) assumes that to be a Christian, one must be perfect. But Christianity is based on the premise that no person is perfect. Therefore one who is a Christian is actually a person who admits they do not follow all the rules. Btw you're also equating the teachings of Jesus with the instructions given by God to the Israelites during the Exodus. They are not the same. Those instructions were given to the Hebrews (not Christians) to survive the journey.

  • @jdawg3008 1) I don't assume you have to be perfect, I never said that, but you should at least /attempt/ to practice the teachings of the book you say you believe to be "the holy word of god"

    2) Jesus specifically said he didn't come to change "the law" or "the prophets", those aren't random terms, leviticus is a part of "the law" and jesus specifically stated it was still valid. Christians just decided to drop some rules to make getting converts eaiser, but that's not what jesus said.

  • @JoeyisDREADful About your 2nd point. Youre quoting only part of the phrase. He said he didn't come to change the law, but to fulfill it. He wasn't saying that he wasn't going to change the law, he was saying that him changing the law was actually the fulfillment prophecy. He said no longer was an eye for an eye acceptable, and that divorce was detestable. These are in contrast with what Moses said. The whole reason why he came was to change the law, u know, dying for our sins..all that stuff

  • @JoeyisDREADful If you read leviticus and parts of deuteronomy you will see that many of those instructions were for the Exodus of the Israelites.Jesus even said it isn't what goes into a man that defiles him, in reference to not eating shellfish.

As for you first point, you said that no Christian actually follows everything the Bible says. It seemed as if you were implying that this fact is hypocritical...but Christianity is about acknowledging that one can't follow everything...

  • @JoeyisDREADful Nobody is perfect. No one can be perfect at anything 100% of the time, so I believe it is unfair for you to single out Christians. Unfortunately, there are many false believers out there. In my opinion, they do more harm than good for Jesus. But hey, real believers keep trying to follow His teachings. ...and do you know all of Jesus' teachings and what Christians are supposed to do?

  • @capstar7075 1) nope, nobody is perfect, never claimed that. What I claimed it that it's a cop out to take two laws off the same page of the bible, and say that one is true and the other is outdated and no longer valid (simply because then you wouldn't be able to eat at red lobster, and red lobster is yummy.) so you just act like it isn't there.

    2) Your second cop out is claiming that every christian I make an arguement about is a "false christian" and that's a BS claim, they follow the same

  • @JoeyisDREADful The Hebrews showed their obedience to God through the Levitical laws. Once Jesus came into the world, he did away with these because He was the answer to salvation, not the law. He claimed that I am the way, the truth and the light. Now, to answer your question why we believe homosexuality is still a sin and not eating shellfish, we have to look at the New Testament. Romans 1 is all you need.

  • @capstar7075 god as you, and use the same book to justify their nonsense, you can't just denounce them as "false believers" to seperate yourself and avoid tough questions. At least admit that you have absoulutely no idea why some biblical rules are accepted as fact, and others as only applying to jews, when some of them are off the same page. It's your book, admit you don't know it or give a real arguement. if you're just going to cop-out of a real answer, why say anything?

  • @JoeyisDREADful Part of the reason I don't explain everything is due to the limited amount of space I am given in posts. So all Christians looking at the same book and worshiping the same God believe in the same thing? The fact of the matter is that there are hundreds of different denominations that all have different beliefs and practices. I do actually know why some biblical rules are accepted as fact and others as applying to the Hebrews.

  • @capstar7075 and yes, I know a lot of things the bible tells people to do (that Jesus specifically says are still valid) that they don't. I went to Christian school and was a very devout Christian. I really thought I'd be Christian my whole life, untill I actually examined the bible without a preacher to explain away all the ridiculous, evil, or down right stupid ass parts. When you study the bible, then study history, then study science, your faith breaks under the weight of the evidence.

  • @JoeyisDREADful Your claim was that, "I think the point that Bill Maher was making was that NO American Christians actually follows everything Jesus says." This could be interpreted in 2 ways. The first is that AC's know what the bible says and either knowingly or unknowingly disobey God. The 2nd is that AC's do not know what the bible actually says. I attempted to refute both points. The first by stating that "no one is perfect" and the second by asking you "what does a Christian believe?"

  • @JoeyisDREADful Just like at Red Lobster, these people see the Bible and Jesus as something they can pick and choose from. It is a menu to them, and ultimately that is how religion has always worked. You take from it what you need to get by in your daily life. What they don't realize is that, just like at Red Lobster, they can't order for the people at the other table.

  • @Theroha You don't need homophobia to get by in your daily life, but I get the point.

but if people want to cherry pick, they can't be that offended when someone comes along and asks them why they bother to believe any of it at all.

  • @JoeyisDREADful I don't really get offended when people question why I believe. Just don't think you're going to convince me of anything beyond the fact that the Bible is less science and history and more guild to getting by in life that's been passed down for thousands of years. Personally, I believe in God because I find some level of comfort in the idea that, no matter how screwed up humanity is, someone is keeping the rest of the world from blowing up and disappearing at death is unnerving.

  • @Theroha My point exactly. At least you admit it. I have no problems with people believing out of fear. That's what it all is, really. The world is messed up and death is terrifying, and I understand that God is comforting, but I refuse to have my rights limited, my views suppressed, and science slowed for that comfort. That is what religion is doing in america right now. I don't care what people believe, I care how it effects our world. I care that I am seen as a worse person for basing my

  • @JoeyisDREADful

See, the more you anti-Christian people open your mouth, the more it becomes clear you're just hateful, lying bigots.

Tell me exactly how Christians are LIMITING YOUR RIGHTS.

Tell me exactly how Christians are SUPPRESSING YOUR VIEWS.

Tell me exactly how Christians are SLOWING DOWN SCIENCE.

The truth is, you are simply intolerant of people who do not believe as you do.

  • @UncleIrv hahaha, WOW. you're funny. Oh wait, were you serious? Ok, christians have made the denial of evolution common place, halted government from funding stem cell research, they ban our children from their clubs, we weren't aloud to hold public office in many states until the 60s, studies have shown we are the most hated group in America, there wasn't an openly non-theist in congress until 2007, In Arkansas the PUBLIC buses allow religious ads, but not atheist ones,

  • @UncleIrv and of course there's the governer (ex governet now, I think) of Alabama, Robert Bentley, with his famous "Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I'm telling you, you're not my brother and you're not my sister." rant. A few more examples of Christians making our lives harder? Sure! In many places, groups have had to fight for high school student to be able to have secular groups, but christian kids get theirs with no fight, in 2009 Cecil Bothwell was

  • @UncleIrv faced with antiquated laws overruled by the Supreme Court being used to try to push him out of office in North Carolina for being an atheist, in FL you might even get arrested for protesting prayers at city council meetings, In Rhode Island a 15 year old requested a prayer banner be taken down from the gym of her highschool (which later turned into a lawsuit) and has received threats of violence from the community and got removed from a classroom due to threats from Christian students

  • @UncleIrv in TX the governer has called for multiple days of statewide prayer, have high school textbooks which teach that the Bible was a "foundational text" in the framing of the U.S, oh yeah, and some teachers got fired for being SUSPECTED atheists, It is depressingly common for atheists to have child custody limited, or even denied, over their atheism, In 2001 the Mississippi Supreme Court upheld an order giving a mother custody partly because she took the child to church more

  • @UncleIrv In 2001, often than the father did, thus providing a better 'future religious example.' In 2000, it ordered a father to take the child to church each week. A few more? OK! Try looking up the name Damon Fowler, yeah, tell me his right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" wasn't limited. Your "christian" values that you have no right to impose on others gets abortion doctors MURDERED, gay rights supressed, and now christians are trying to teach our children fairy tales in

  • @UncleIrv science class. Before you EVER try and claim how bigoted atheists are, look at your religion first and how it treats us in this country and then maybe you'll know why atheists are sick and tired of your nonsense you son of a bitch.

  • @JoeyisDREADful

Well, you still haven't told me anything. Except perhaps that you have neglected to take your meds.

Again I repeat...tell me exactly how you are MISTREATED in this country because you are an atheist. You have exactly the same Constitutional rights as anyone else.

Maybe, perhaps, you are confusing the concept of "rights" with some infantile desire you have for all of us to cater to your inability to tolerate people of other beliefs on the same planet?

  • @UncleIrv Yeah, we have the same constitutional rights, but often they aren't respected. It's not legal for a public school to show preference towards a religion, but that happens all the time and if we point out that it's unfair to the religious minorities at the school, that makes us bigots. If you don't see how the things I just listed are discrimination, then you're extremely ignorant. How are all the cases I just listed of atheists being mistreated in this country irrelevant?

  • @JoeyisDREADful

    You're joking, right?

You say "the things I just listed" yet you have "listed" nothing. You made one, lone NEBULOUS CLAIM without giving any specific example of how this alleged discrimination plays out in reality.

I told you to TELL ME EXACTLY how you are mistreated. If, as you claim, public schools disrespect the rights of atheists, then you should be able to give me a CLEAR SPECIFIC EXAMPLE of exactly how this happens.

Again, I suspect an infantile delusion on your part.

  • @UncleIrv How about the 5 OTHER comments I posted in which I listed specific cases of discrimination which you can verify for yourself? Wow, yeah, you obviously only read one comment. Bravo for taking the conclusion of an arguement, ignoring the rest of it and then bitching at the other person that they didn't give you specific enough cases. You are extremely intelligent. Again, Bravo.

  • @JoeyisDREADful

Notice how I repeatedly manage to sum up my argument--quite articulately--in 500 characters or less?

...while you rave on for 5 comments like a lunatic?

Yes, I have read your other "examples." And none of them qualify as an example of the government ESTABLISHING A STATE RELIGION and FORCING YOU TO JOIN IT.

You seem to mistakenly think that the Constitution grants you "the right to not be surrounded by religious people." This is the narcissistic delusion of crybaby atheists.

  • @UncleIrv and as far as acting like we're the intolerant ones, tolerance does NOT mean putting up with illegal religious displays in public schools, or anything else like that. We are fighting for equality and tolerance when we attempt to take away such displays. It is intolerant to think that because you are in the majority you can force minorities to be surrounded by your beliefs in a publicly funded setting. Just because we don't put up with it, doesn't make us the intolerant ones.

  • @JoeyisDREADful

Tell you what. Let me educate you, so maybe you can avoid making a further ass of yourself.

You said "your rights" as an atheist are disrespected in this country. "Your rights" in this matter can be summed up in one sentence:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"

Has the government ESTABLISHED A STATE RELIGION and FORCED YOU TO JOIN IT?

If not, then as I suspected, you are just a narcissistic little cunt who is intolerant of opposing beliefs.

  • @UncleIrv Uhm, again, asswipe, go below and read all the comments of mine that you ignored the first time, and then get back to me.

  • @JoeyisDREADful

See, I have better things to do with my time than point out all the countless ways you are full of crap. There are just too many examples.

Here is JUST ONE more example:

So, you have a Constitutional "right" you not to be---QUOTE---"...surrounded by (other people's) beliefs in a publicly funded setting..."???????

TELL ME EXACTLY WHERE THE CONSTITUTION SAYS THAT.

You could hardly provide a more blatant example of your narcissistic, delusional intolerance.

  • @UncleIrv The Supreme Court has ruled (many times) that having something like a (referring to a Rhode Island case) banner referring to "god almighty" in a public school qualifies is unconstitutional. Just because you don't understand the legal issues surrounding something doesn't make you right, just ignorant of the facts. Public schools are not to support one religion over another as it falls under the Establishment Clause, that's what has been decided, but it is still violated.

  • @JoeyisDREADful

So you openly and shamelessly admit that the activity you describe IN NO WAY even remotely resembles the specific language of what the Constitution bans...yet you say that *I* am the one who does not "understand the legal issues"?

This just reinforces the fact that you are a narcissist who expects ALL OF SOCIETY to conform to your personal desires. That's why you consider it legitimate for activists judges to violate jurisprudence by imposing absurd interpretations into law.

  • @UncleIrv I do not think that I have the right to "not be surrounded by religious people" I gave you examples of religion in public schools, (which qualifies as the government "respecting" an established religion, which IS in the constitution) teachers getting fired for being suspected atheists, and when chrisitian kids want a christian club, they get it, but atheist kids often get denied, or even in trouble for trying the same. Not all discrimination is state-sanctioned, but it's still wrong.

  • @JoeyisDREADful

You are misquoting the 1st Amendment. It does not forbid "respecting an established religion" as you've said. It says "Congress shall MAKE NO LAW respecting the establishment of religion." The word "respecting" means "pertaining to." In other words, any LAW that ESTABLISHES A RELIGION is forbidden.

Note that the next phrase says "OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF." If you are trying to eliminate all free expression of religion from schools, it is YOU who is in violation.

  • @UncleIrv Reguardless of what YOU think, it's been ruled that we can't have things like prayer in school, because it violates our freedom of religion. I'm all for letting kids express themselves with things like Christian student-run clubs, but not things like banners saying that the school is under god's authority which clearly marginalizing religious minorities. You have the right to free exercise, not to impose that on everyone around you, and then call us intolerant for not sitting

  • @UncleIrv quietly through your school supported prayer during our graduation ceremony, or other such nonsense. Being forced to listen to a sermon, or participate in a Christian prayer should not be mandatory to attend my own graduation, and the supreme court ruled syaing just that, and still it has been ignored many times since that ruleing. This is all besides the fact that you're missing the point that not all discrimination is state-sactioned.

  • @UncleIrv according to your logic, we can go tell all black people in America that racism is over in the US, because the constitution gives them the same rights as white people, and therefore they've never been discriminated again and never will be.
