Hey can someone tell me u can CF 2 4890s if 1 card is different than the other? What i mean is can I CF like an xfx non-reference card with say an Asus 4890?? And do they both have to be the same clock and memory speed to CF?? Help please
@lamiac2411 When running two different HD4890's in Crossfire the clockspeeds will be set automatically to the slowest card. With manual overclocking you can bring the lower clocked card op to the level of the highest clocked card tot get optimal performance. Compatibility should never be an issue with different clockspeeds.
@tallandme13 Cards are already replaced. They worked fine and i bought them on the bottom, sold them with almost no loss. I wanted to upgrade to HD 5970 because it is faster and a lot more quiet..
im wondering, i ordered an XFX 4890, but the picture shows the fan in the middle of the gpu and bigger, is this a different version of the card? shittier version? any answers? D: cause i hope i didnt order a load of shit D:
@hudziszeq uhh i have a problem now with the newer version of the card. it is less noisy
but im at fucking 100% fan speed (not that noisy for me ) and no air is coming out of the exhaust at the back.... wtf? its overheating and crashing when i play crysis and arma 2 etc? any reasons?
Ive just checked mine , and what i saw is just a small part of hot air is comming out of the card through its "front panel", but temperature seems to be fine , 44'C , 71'C overstressed. are you sure that is caused by overheated card ? It happened to me in past few times and first time it was processor's fault ( this thermal layer on the top of processor got dehydrated ) , second time broken power supply .
So you better download some program such as EasyTune 6 and check the temperature of each component. In case if it was caused by graphic card i would send it back , i believe you got warranty . Good luck
lol sorry for getting you confused , front panel i meant this part in which you plug in your monitor. Hm its not always about component's age. I had had OCZ 600w and it was faulty model as it broke down after three weeks of using it but i did get replacing one , the same model etc and its worked fine since about half year. Once again , download some software to measure graphic card's temperature to make sure where the problem is.
the one you got is the new model, the only difference is that the ones he got (XXX edition) has a 50 MHz higher core clock... from 900 MHz,, im guessing that you can OC ur gpu 50 MHz with no problem?
You can OC the same with any card. All you have to do is play with the voltages. It's not worth the extra 50 dollars for a "black edition" or "OC edition" card when you can just do it yourself.
With these two HD4890's the temperatures were almost identical. Reason for this is that the fan on this Black Edition card is spinning very fast in games so there is enough air circulation. With two HD5870's i see a large difference in temperature, about 10C hotter for the top card.
Idle temp on these HD4890's was about 55C, full load between 70 and 75C.
i have a p6t deluxe, that motherboard has another pci slot between the 2 pci_e slots so that the 2 cards are'nt as close as in this vid. but still my upper card is 4-5°C warmer then the bottem one. they never go over 70°C tho (not even after 4-5 hours of non stop gaming)
well aleast it should stay cool i dont care about that lil fan noise because ill have my speakers up when gaming cant w8 just ordered mine today hope i get the revised XXX 6/8pin edition because the black edition isn't available to the usa i would pay 10-20bones more for the black pbc just to make it match my color scheme blue/black w red cables
okay it is the old version of X58A :)

Do either of your cards appear to be slightly bent, and are you/have you sold the 4890's?

is a single 4890 black better/faster/more powerfull than a single gtx 260 216core ??
dazcr85 1 year ago
@dazcr85 Definately. This card is 33% faster than a standard HD4870 1GB, which performs closely to the GTX 260-216.. You do the math :P
