That is about 38 million albums sold in the 80's. Now, Bon Jovi on the other hand also released 4 albums in the 80's. All the album sales combined of those bon jovi albums are about 51 million albums sold in the 80's. Big difference

In the 80's Def Leppard sold more albums than Bon Jovi, meaning that in 1990 if you counted up the band sales then Leppard were ahead of Jovi. But Bon Jovi's albums have then gone on to sell more in the years SINCE THE 80's ENDED and have therefore now overtaken Def Leps overall sales. The figures you quote are not how many albums sold just in the 80's, they are sales figures from the albums release up to the present day.

Okay, so the argument is that sales shouldn't measure the greatness of a band. I agree with this, as a Rush fan.
However, there's a reason why Bon Jovi's music will ultimately outlive Def Leppard's. They changed in a musical climate that demands change, while staying true to themselves. They grew up, and slowly but surely it morphed into success. Lost Highway may have been country but it has all the standard Bon Jovi elements to it.

Bigger sales yes - but to get those bigger sales they changed their music to become a very bland middle of the road band now. Def Leppard may not be as successful sales wise as they used to be, but they still do well with their tours. Its shallow to judge a band based on how many albums they've sold or how many fans they have now. That doesnt make Jovi any better or any worse than a band that is currently selling less than them.

Def Leppard can't seem to stick with a sound and Bon Jovi can't seem to escape their soccer mom sound...

just enjoy 2 of the greatest rock bands of all time jammin. they're both amazing. its all about who you prefer . i do like def leppard better but bonjovi is still amazing!

Okay, so the argument is that sales shouldn't measure the greatness of a band. I agree with this, as a Rush fan.
However, there's a reason why Bon Jovi's music will ultimately outlive Def Leppard's. They changed in a musical climate that demands change, while staying true to themselves. They grew up, and slowly but surely it morphed into success. Lost Highway may have been country but it has all the standard Bon Jovi elements to it.
Def Leppard's been stuck in time for awhile now.

Woohoo! I would KILL to see this live! My fave band ever on tour with my #2 fave band! And...Joe Elliott and Jon Bon Jovi on the same stage...now that's what I call heavenly!! I remember back in the day having posters of these 2 guys in my bedroom...heehee!! But if you wanna talk best band...in my book, Leppard's #1, then Jovi. ...And Joe Elliott rocks my damn world!! :)

@goldenagerock I think Def Leppard did revolutionize rock music but in terms of consistency BJ has been far more consistent in terms of consistently good albums.

@goldenagerock Sorry but Bon Jovi is the better Band I love Def Leppard but just don't have the WOW facotor anymore. Jovi consistency have awesome songs. When was the last time a Def Leppard had a new song played on the radio or VH1.

@rockofhysteria I didn't mean Def Leppard is all washed up. I just don't ever see Leppard selling out show like Jovi.Jovi just has been more consistenlty in the charts. I would say Def Leppard do better in a live show then selling albums.

Bigger sales yes - but to get those bigger sales they changed their music to become a very bland middle of the road band now. Def Leppard may not be as successful sales wise as they used to be, but they still do well with their tours. Its shallow to judge a band based on how many albums they've sold or how many fans they have now. That doesnt make Jovi any better or any worse than a band that is currently selling less than them.

Im shaking watching this because these are definitely my two most favoritist bands of all time on the same stage, i definitely dont think i could ever handle this amazing situation like a young lady should. It would probably involve me getting thrown out of the stadium.
