Are we really having a debate between the Fall and Joy Division? Well OK. Unknown Pleasures is overrated, but Closer is amazing. The fall have put out quite a lot of shit in their time. A lot of great stuff too, but they aren't perfect.
@superspocko ME Smith always said that Joy Division's music sucks...But he was friend with Nick Cave when he was singing in Birthday Party...Anyway,I listen to JD and The Fall but I think The Fall is better...
@mpkpkm Definitely the Fall is better than JD overall, but they are on equal standing with the fall for at least three song, "Love WIll Tear Us Apart", "She's Lost Control" and "Transmission" I usually found only a few songs on JD albums I actually liked. The rest were "meh", but everything on an album by the Fall was excellent.
What a way to get a start in life: Kalgoorlie and the opal mines; but did those feet in ain't shut time balk at England's village greens? And was by broccoli shunted aside Dada Psycho screened? Brung me my spear of asparowgas, my shed of burnished goaled, my marino sheep thus sheered, my beach towel thus unfolded at Bondi, with Mr.Brett "Raper St." Whitely standing by, painterlie!!
@blueroomexit maybe but that dosnt make it so i live in south london and the majority of black people are decent law abiding citizens the media blows stuff out of proportion dont let it get in your head my friend.
It's hard to know where to start with The Fall. They have a million albums, 98% of them are total godhead, and the remaining 2% is very good. Mark E. Smith is a genius!
went 2 c the fall many moons ago m smith got pissed off,so the encore was just a recording of the gig that he played thru a dansetti tape player lying on the floor,we still watched it
Saw Mark E Smith really pissed off at a Fall gig I went to. Think he was expecting a big venue with many people which he never got. Just stropped the whole time and could not finish fast enough. Said about 3 words the whole gig miserable git.
A most refreshing tune.

Much like Wire, there are certain bands that are just too original to ever have a chance at a wide audience.
