i have a musicman stingray with a maple neck and fretboard (like the cream one in the background) , can i definatly use the ernie ball wonder wipes on it?
ok,so i will buy an ernie ball music man stingray soon,i am buying one with a maple fretboard,i want a gloss finish fretboard,if the bass doesn't come with the gloss finish, can i apply the gloss myself?
ok libertyballs! calm down you obviously feel the need to post your comment!must be sitting waiting for the perfect video!wow ..do you feel a 1000% better
sanding? are you nutts?i have been playing my axis for years and i would never do that..i really dont think that is a smart thing..i guess after you buy all there shit a couple of years you may have to by another one of there guitars due to sanding the neck,,sounds nutts to me,,i could be wrong
@dbm5150 No, but it should have been wet-sanded, not dry-sanded. There's no finish on the neck, therefore all a light sanding does is removed the layer of finger oils that invariably build up over time.
However, that said and with proper maintenance (like wiping the neck and strings down after you finish playing), even this sanding can be avoided.
i think if the neck is very dirty what you need is the oil soap but usually what i've heard just the gunstock oil and wax. sanding is not recommended even at their website but if you get dirt into the guitar's neck you have to sand it out which i REALLY dont like. thos jp6 guitars are to dream for. recommend washing your hands before any use of the neck and just clean it after use with a clean paper towel and when the time is right use the gunstock.
@UglyScukuggly Murphy's Oil Soap is not an Ernie Ball product - you get it at the grocery store. Birchwood-Casey Gunstock oil is available in sporting goods stores. Sandpaper can be purchased in the hardware store. If you don't want to use their "wonder wipes" then get some lemon oil or orange oil. BTW, this doesn't seem that complicated to me.
@davey4557 linseed is not a good alternative. Linseed oil never ever dries some people finish there ibanez 7620 in it to give it a natural look it doesnt dry. Use lemon oil and naptha.
@UglyScukuggly Unfinished necks need a little bit more maintenance than a standard gloss neck, while it's not necessary, it can help with playability. As for the fretboard stuff, if you aren't cleaning yours a few times a year, I'd hate to see it.
@UglyScukuggly Well this is not actually a "cleaning", it is more of annual conditioning, just to make sure the wood is in good shape. Obviously if you sand the neck every month after 5 years you wouldn't have any neck to play on!.

the maple board neck is the same material of he back of JPM's neck. I don't know they don't say to us that we can use the same procedure to our unfinished maple necks.

You obviously have never put 1000 grit on the back of your neck... it doesn't hurt it at all and it plays about 1000% better,

Sanding the neck to clean it?
This guy is a moron. If I sanded my neck every time I cleaned it, it would be gone by now.
