I'm learning this song at the moment- it's so nice to finally reach a level in piano where you feel like you are finally playing true music!! I think this is one of those pieces :).
Why can't you follow the melody if it's at a slower speed? I'll admit, it's more difficult to play at a slower speed because of the 3s against 2s but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Playing it so fast makes the quick bit sound rushed too.
This is almost exactly the tempo I play it. I think it's nice because you can keep the melody line and it doesn't sound choppy. You can also make it seem more calm and musical by putting more emphasis on rests and phrasing. Everyone has a different opinion, there's no reason to get nasty about it.
ofcourse he plays fast, but he doesn't play too fast. I played that piece on a Piano Competition and I know that if you play it slower you couldn't follow main melodic line.
I find myself wondering why you're endorsing a method for acquiring absolute pitch, when all the literature I can find from research sources -- at the University of California and elsewhere -- indicates the chances of someone acquiring absolute pitch after age 6 are just about nil.
Do you honestly maintain that your experience of the phenomenon jibes with Mr. Burge's descriptions of "twanginess", etc.? Why inject yourself into the thick of the turf struggle going on between Burge and Cameron?
I'm going to play it on my exam, i'm in 5'th grade in piano. this is quite difficult, but when you get the rythm correct, then it's just beatiful and this man is playing absolutely fantastic, i play it a little bit slower and stuff, but i like this version too :)
preeeetttyyy!!! i love it. fantastic. I am actually learning this song and I am so impressed. wow. i dont think i can get it to be that good XD daaaaaang! yes this is a very hard song XP
Every time I do listen this nocturne and it makes me happy. How does he play, how does he feel the music! If you have an imagination, you can hear all the sounds of the night: the birds, a rustle of the wind even a whisper of the night flowers.
I hope that you are OK,R.B., you do not play at all.
Thanks for asking...I am preparing a bunch of recitals at the moment so my schedule does not allow me to post videos. Check out my other performances - there are 44 more. :)
I'm not seeing the red dots now. I said that because the first time I watched it, red dots appeared sporadically on his right arm and shoulder, prominently on the black fabric. Maybe something with the browser? Weird... sorry about that.
Unfortunately, yes. Performances that are slower tend to have a self-indulgent feel. This is why I use color more than tempo to sustain the dramatic sequence of phrases.
"I'm serious, I think when i play its pretty well, and if you would just respect that"....you know akemi122, you seem pretty immature for an 11 year old....you were practically asking for the comment murphee made just so you could make some smart comment back to him. (I'm "only" 11 and I can play this!)....uh, ok....good for you i guess.....I wouldn't want to be your friend if i were 11......just puttin that out there.....
This is my favorite interpretation on YouTube.

Lovely. I feel your tempo is just right. Any slower and it starts to plod, and the cross-rhythms become just a little "cross".

I lost this piece on a drive somewhere. I will never forgive myself for losing such a piece. :(

I think his tempo is just fine. This piece is too plodding if played morbidly slow.

I do not do the videos, but I know all 45 yours. You are blessed, because a music needs nothing, but the words need a music sometimes.

a bit too fast. Not glaring tho. I just wonder who's the joker with the red laser pen...

personally i think bosworth's version is the best version on youtube. :)

To Richard Bosworth plays Grieg's "Nocturne": he is a Master, even nothing to compare, absolutely
beautiful night magic. Thank you.

It takes more than talent and technique to play a piece like this well.
Even if you can play it at 11, it may take years to build up the emotion to make it meaningful.
