Where's the human side of Mbwun? He looks so... Alien. I pictured Mbwun as a gorgeous beast, actually, while reading the books. He just looks like a nasty bug here. Where's the sadness, loneliness, and anger in his eyes? He's just a monster in this movie. No back story and no sympathy.

I'm really upset by this adaptation. Can we have another one? With Pendergast and Smithback? And a GOOD Mbwun?

this movie gave no justice to the awesomeness that was the book. A movie could simply not have enough time to describe everything in the book. This movie killed the book. The monster was supposed to be like 95% mammalian and like 5% reptilian. And the monster is supposd to look part human. And it is supposed to be as smart as a human. And the explanation of why the plant caused mutation was much more scientifically explained in the book which made it sound better (even if it didnt make sense).

@restructo It's called Reliquary. It still takes place in N.Y, and has P. and D'agosta i in it as well. The story Is about a new series of subway murders that are similar to the way the museum beast killed it's victims. If you enjoy these books you should check out the series.

the anthropologist shown at the begining of the movie IS the beast. he drinks a potion made with those special leaves that had the power to transform any animal or man in a horrific monster. he embarks aboard the ship who must bring him back to usa. later he is shown again how he finds out that boxes he embarked with him do not contain those leaves but some rugs. coz in order to stay alive he must eat those leaves.
