  • reminds me a bit of a morrissey song, the torment in his voice is so disturbingly beautiful!

  • Best band from New Zealand yet!

  • The song has the coolest fucking intro of all time.

  • Also, I love how intense he is in his videos!

  • Fuck us all! Everyone! They are so good man! I feel like they are the (perfect) missing link between so many popular styles and genres, but with that "indie" touch that keeps their music feelings authentic and not factory produced. haha. Wow! I sound lame, but that is something i love about that. (as a final note i actually like the cookie cutter factory produced stuff to but more of my time goes to this stuff i think).

  • he has a very distinct voice!

  • Guess this is a song that takes some getting used to.

Not a big fan, but I'll at least give the band a few more tries before I write them off completely.

  • Calliope is a street in Devonport, Auckland were Finn and some of the band grew up.

  • umm not too sure but i think calliope is a rd in the town i live in, devonport where the veils originate from but not 100% on that one

  • @electricbubbles he is a good family friend of mine ! :)

  • saw them open for liam finn in 2008 and fell in love immediately. :)

  • ....you think its greek?, the veils-New Zealand band, Calliope-Calliope street in devonport where one of the band members lived...

    sigh

  • I don't normally listen to this kind of music (I was just searching for music with actual Calliope's in it) but I find it to be very good. Love it. Thanks for posting it. I will check these guys/gal out. Never heard of them.

  • how about we all just pronounce it "that ridiculously beautiful song..." and everyone should certainly know what you mean.

  • Love from Oregon.

Easily one of my favorite songs! Amazing band.

  • Hell yeah. Reppin' P-TOWN

  • musically, lyrically, visually amazing. wow.

  • It's pronounced ka-lie-oh-pee, which is greek for beautiful voice.

  • its greek for beautiful eyes..

  • actually Calliope was the muse of heroic poetry, the one that inspired Homer for the Iliad and Odissey, but yes, litterally translated means "with a beautiful voice"...

  • @cicomanandbbcat It isn't that deep of a meaning it is the street where some of them grew up DOUCHE

  • i live on the street this song is named after :-)

  • It's pronounced kul-eye-pee for anyone wondering.. :) it's my girlfriends name, I played this for her, she loved it..

  • @Steepleofapun actually, you pronounce it that way, but it's more commonly pronounced kal-ee-oh-pee

  • @abcdefgiorgia actually, you pronounce it that way, but it's more accurately pronounced kal-eye-oh-pee

  • Awesome

    Song.

Can't get it out of my head... Truly a band that should be more well known. . .

  • very catchy

  • Very Elliott Smith. I love it.

  • calliope's name is calliope... shes sitting behind me on the couch making watch this video

  • me I like the vocal so hot !!!!!! the song is too nice

  • Fuck me I love the Veils.

  • the chick is Sophia Burn and yes, she is really on fire! wow! nice song, nice video, nice group.

  • Yeah, the chick in the video is awesome ! xD

nice video and a pretty song.

  • Back off, that lovely lady is mine! :) haha

  • Comment removed

  • the sexiest - Finn obviously

    his voice alone... brrr

  • Reminds me of movies like Nosferatu.

  • Liam is the sexiest.

  • Correction, the chick is the sexiest.

  • The girl is absolutely gorgeous

  • i loveee this song

  • The dynamics are wonderful in this video. There are some wonderful moments where you can see the band are just really enjoying themselves.

Am i the only one who finds Sophia really pretty?

  • Comment removed

  • well i dont know this band ... so if you thought the girl at 0:27 then i agree with you :P

  • Yes, her. Sophia the bassist.

You should definetly check all their music out. the more i listen to their albums, the more i just love them.

  • oh and calliope, is in mythology is the Muse of Poetry and also a street in Auckland (where we grew up), so I'm using that's why he picked the name. I would assume the Street in Auckland, since the song says "It was there I saw you walking down the street"

I don't think it really has anything to do with a calliope instrument...

  • and he grew up in Auckland which is in NZ, but he went back to England, London to be specific (where he was born) when he was 17. Come on guys, get with the program here O.o

  • oh yeah, he's from Brixon and for those who don't know that's in England...also for those who don't know the whole band is from England, as they are an ENGLISH band....

  • The whole band isnt from England. At the time of this video and for this album the keys player Liam was and is from Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand. And Calliope is the name of a road in Devonport.

  • Anyway, Jeff Buckley is dead. Finn Andrews is alive and has a great voice. And I love this song

  • *kiwis what!

  • Kiwi what? The ache in his voice... comparisong to buckley anybody?

  • nope buckley had an 8 octave voice reach this one defenitly hasn't

  • I don't really think there is such a thing as 8 octave range. For women perhaps... Mariah Carey.

Finn Andrews' tone colour is similar to Buckley's, and his vibrato. Andrews has a great range, but he doesn't use all of it in every song.

  • Yeah my bad

He was a tenor capable of reaching a falsetto* pitch. A tenor's range in the bass clef spans middle C to high F. Jeff's actual range was four octaves.

  • puxa todas sus canciones son buenas pero k genios!! :D!!!

  • i love this song! great guitar play :D

  • the veils are absolutly a new zealand band! finn and liam both went to takapuna grammar school in auckland and calliope is refering to a road in devonport auckland

  • I'm pretty sure Finn was born in England.

  • born in england, grew up in devonport auckland, where he met 2 of his band mates, calliope is a road in devonport

  • r u guys all from UK or New Zealand or Austrailia? Im from America. Im pretty sure the Veils are British.

  • very naaiz! enjoyed it very much :D

  • i cant new zealanders claim he's nzer, he left nz for london at 16 yrs!

  • Great song!! Theyre really amazing! Glad I've discovered them yesterday!! looking forward to see them live!!

  • Why on earth is this song called calliope? I don't see or hear anything that has to do with a calliope.

    Still, it's an okay song.

  • at the gig he said that it was a song about a long road going through a small town. i think calliope is also a county in australia..

  • Ooh. I see. That makes much more sense. :)

  • Calliope Shire is in Central Queensland. The seat of local gov. was the town Calliope; I say "was" because at the beginning of this year it merged with the neighbouring city of Gladstone and Miriam Vale Shire to become Gladstone Regional Shire. There could be worse places to live than Calliope, it's a pretty nice place with mango farms, rivers, mountains and, before the merge when the shire was a half doughnut shape, surf beaches. I like it.

  • Oh, the songs nice too and reminds me of a typical type of Aussie sound (one of them) - sort of poppy with a twist of darkness around its edge. A lot of Kiwi songs go a step further - kind of twisted and dark with a bit of pop around the edges. Too much info? Sorry about that, I find it hard to "keep it pithy". See you mate.

  • @mariodorissi Calliope is a road in the North Shore (Auckland, NZ) near where he grew up

  • @mariodorissi It's called Calliope Road, it goes pretty much straight through Devonport, which is where Finn grew up :D

  • @mariodorissi and a daughter of zeus. :D

  • @mariodorissi australia is one country retard

  • Comment removed

  • @4biddenGR he said county calm down man, enjoy the music

  • @4biddenGR haha u must feel like a retard!

  • Calliope Road in Devonport Auckland. Where Finn grew up,,,definitely a long road in a small town!

  • this is by far the coolest music video i've ever seen

  • This band pwns! they took the Indie Rock sound and made it their own

  • How weird is that effect on the drummer.

  • I think it's great that some guys chose to put up Vicious Traditions, as Mr Brooks' soundtrack!

Now they're popular and much more confident, which will make them shine even more..

    i love them too!

  • the first song I heard from The Veils was Vicious Traditions and I loved it, I listened to it at a movie, Mr Brooks

    They are great

  • I thought this wasn't too great. Sozzard.

  • Good song, neat video. Thanks for posting!

  • finn's voice is just awesome

him and his father, barry, have just the coolest voices i've ever heard

    very very good video

  • Teh drummer is like 12 yrs.old

  • very nice...

  • beautiful

  • inner sea chill son. hes got an opinion and hes an idiot deal with it... you cant even see his shit less you click on it. concentrate on the hot bass player.

  • shit? psshhh... i suspect that finn has more artistic talent ,in his little pinky alone, than you will ever have.

  • this is a beautifully done video. just saw them in st. louis with about a dozen other people. very grounded group of incredible musicians.

  • Veils are just so much more than simply music....they are an emotion unique, disarming, precious.....they are part of my life

  • '...I saw you there, down on the street my love you've come such a long way

with no one to comfort you or to tell you you're needed...'
