  • whats with the shit music mate

  • @jakebarnes20 who gives a shit, you obviously here for the sailing you fuck wit

  • Whats the song?

  • Whats the song?

  • Great! really fast! looking carbon fiber masts.

  • Who sings this song?

  • 20 knots? With no white-caps anywhere in sight? Hardly.

  • did you use steadicam for this shootings?

  • Get your GPS checked

  • Действительно

  • Do you have the sponsor with Seiko or is that just what you had on the gennaker?

If so are you still a sponsor with them as I am for the 49er

  • Замечательная яхта Фотинайер!

  • @8888Natan Действительно

  • Did 19.2 knots in a 29er today! On Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra, Australia.

I never thought a 29er could crank as hard as this 49er, but there you go.

  • @Husuf1 29er is not much slower than 49er. however the downwind angle of the 49er is much deeper. And they are not up to full speed on this video because of the waves.

  • @ivanbulaja Yeah you're right the 29er does have to sail quite high angles to maintain its speed. I noticed this while racing against a B14 in the same race. We could almost keep up with them on boatspeed, but they were trucking it so much deeper than us.

  • @ivanbulaja whats the harder boat to sail compared with the 29er and 49er

  • @graffitiworldclass 49er is 1000 times harder. It is not a boat which you want to have just for fun. You have to practice a lot just to be able to get out on the water and back in.

  • @ivanbulaja ohh shit cause im on the quebec 29er sailing team and im looking into 49er but im not sure if i should and it is really that hard to sail wow

  • @graffitiworldclass I'm looking for a crew in qc, who are u?

  • @orsay193942 where in qc do u live i am not giving out my name

  • @ivanbulaja Well actually the 49er is a lot more stable than a 29er. The thing, over 20knt, the supersize sails of the 49er make it extremely hard to control and putting the bow down when you are bearing off. The 29er can stand a lot more wind than the 49er. ....and it will cost you the third of the price.

  • windit!

  • what is the VMG???

  • rally Johansen ? how old are you?

  • Sweet! 

  • I'm sailing 29'er i thinks the 49'er is really cool:)

  • 17-18 knots with some spikes to 19 knots

  • i would have thought a 49er could do closer to 50

  • dude you got no idea... wot do you think would happen if the boat starts travelling faster than the wind !!! ... the sails would fill invertly and act like a brake

  • @callanj100 -It's totally possible to go faster than the wind. The wind does not push the sail. The sail acts like a big wing generating lift. The faster you are going across the wind the more apparent wind there is and therefore more lift.

It takes more and more force to go faster though so you don't just keep accelerating but loads of skiff type boats can sail faster than the wind.

Google a guy called Julian Bethwaite for more details.

  • @edshift

upwind yes, i know bernoulli's principle ... higher the velocity of the breeze going over the lower the pressure.. so if we get air to move faster ova the sail on one side you create lift... this principle is possible up wind .. but down wind not really .. it has happened to me in a 420 going down a wave... the kite inverted.. though mayb the angles which you sail a skiff change it... if so i stand corrected but 67knts no way not in 20 or so

  • @callanj100 Gotta say I agree - 67 knots in 20 knots of wind is not even remotely gonna happen.

I guess the inverting spinnaker is why skiffs only ever reach.

Also skiffs with asymmetric gennakers are peculiar in that the faster you go the more the apparent wind moves forward so you can sheet the gennaker in more as if you are on a closer reach.

I sailed an I420 before the L4K BTW - Great boats especially in a blow.

    :-)

  • @callanj100

You have no idea mate.... you should research before making dumb comments....

  • Astounding footage! Nice Tack moves flawless!

  • ho did you syncoronized the gps data with the video?

  • you know the funny thing is that the (slower brother) to the 49er, the B14 has a much faster recorded speed record :P 49er - 21.6 vs B14 - 28.5.... hmmm says a lot hey...

  • 49er also has alot more on in those conditions, sail area, drag etc.... etc.... So no it doesn't say shit when B14 is out the back door around the Cans!

  • not saying that the 49er is a slow boat, they are faster up wind but the superior sail area of a B14 makes them a forcer to recon with down wind. also the free board on a 49er is so low you prob cant take them out in strong enough weather to actually get the kite up in say... 35kts

not to take anything away from you but guys in the UK have busted 32kts un officially.... not a slow boat mate

  • Leggy;I am saying mate the 49er having more on in those conditions, pretty much factors you listed- freeboard, Sail area.then length of foils, rig. B14 =great boat. Around the course 49er would be on top. The newer flat-top mains on skiffs like Cherubs, 12's, 14's,16's, 18's flatten out nicely in over-powering conditions and makes de-powering the rig ezy instead of being over-powered in 8 you get closer to 12-15. All I know is 49er old rig in anything over 15 is a hanful and not very forgiving.

  • yeah im not arguing with the fact that a 49er kills in a race, it can maintain a much higher average speed because of those traps upwind. admitedly the B14's do get bogged down up wind because they just have too much cloth up and can utilize it propperly in lighter weather becuse of the old hull design. i sail B14's, and they can be a hand full in waether much over 20, you cant power the down propperly, cant imagine how a 49er would suck out there on a bad day

  • Probably because a B14 can sail in stronger winds than a 49er...

  • The cheesy music is meant to drown out the sound of the jet ski motor in the hold. Good try though, still looks like fun!

  • Какая красота! И музыка прикольная! Возьмите меня с собой!

  • Какая красота!!! АААА!!! Хочу на лодку!!!

  • yea right at 20kts wind...

  • i laugh cuz a tornado would be doing 25 to 30 knots easily...... guess theyre just to fast for the olympics

  • a tornado is completely different to a 49er though isnt it....

  • when you do 20-30 on a sailboat its so crazy it feels like 200 your right on that edge of losing it the whole time

  • i bet if you pushed that boat in more wind you could hit 40 or 50 because ive hit 30 in a I-20 scow and i know it could probly be pushed a little more but asymmetric spins kick butt

  • 40-50 knots? In your dreams... Fastest boat on the planet reached 51Knots last month. It was a foiler trimaran named hydroptre.

There is no way a 49er could reach 50 knots with the current design.

Nice speed for an I-20 scow tho!

  • ok maybe i am dreaming but i always thought that 49ers were uber fast so after we reached 30knots on our i-20 i figured they could do way more but i still say they could get about 40 in right conditions and wasnt that record boat french or somthing i know what your talking about i think it was named hydph...well i dont rember the name but somthing like that

  • top speed recorded was at 35 knots for a 49er, but im sure in the near future it will hit 40..

  • xylady2, gentlemanly expressed, this much vaunted scowwill never reach such speeds. Perhaps the on board GPS set to Kilometres and not knots,

it is recognised in some circles that 49 sailors are bi penised

  • @xylady2, it actually reached 67 kts ;)

  • @xylady2 at it most 28 knots

  • @xylady2 while you are correct, the fastest boat on the planet is the Hydroptere, The world sailing speed record is held by a windsurfer, at 51.3 kts, I believe. :)

  • @xylady2 49er top speed goes around 22-24kts and for this you need perfect conditions (absolutely no waves).

  • How did you get an I-20 to 30knots!? thats VX40 speed!!

  • well it was really windy and i-20s are pretty fast boats

  • whats the name of the song?

  • That baby is flyin'!!

  • oh muma that's a fast bitch............. drool. Wana race against my Drascombe Lugger? 8D

  • mental boats.

  • i love racing single handed boats but you dont get this kind of speed out of a radial

  • asymmetries all the way

  • i love going on the trapeze

  • its the best.

  • Nice movie... how does the gps-tracking work - connected to the camera, or has it been placed in the video afterwards?

  • nice. i miss sailin on the little 2-3 man boats

  • is that boat fast??? and where didi you get it???

  • ya its fast and he most likely bought it a store and if you didn't know that i really doubt you would be able to sail it

  • Lol, for sure. That boat is a blast. I have sailed once only, I used to sail in 470, and really has nothing to do, but I preffer 470, as requires a little bit less athletic preparation. I'm 30 yo and it was a pain to sail in 49er. But I needed to try.

  • odličan video

  • Nice Jibe smooth action at 3:48

  • Yeah. Respect guys.

  • i wana see i video where they actuly push one of these boats i know they can do more than that ive done 30 in an i-20 and its no where close to a boat like this

  • no you haven't

  • few closecall nose dives there. nice recovery on them all. great vid

  • This guys know how to sail a gennaker =)

  • actualy its an asemetrik spinnaker i think

(i no i spelled it wrong)

  • lol its asymetrical

  • Yes, it's not the common Spi. Actually is not for the same kind of windangle.

  • Excellent...!

  • Great. I am also interested in how to get GPS data into video?

  • I have made my own flash program to convert GPS gpx file to subtitle file and calculate all this stuff. But since I spend most of my time on the water, it is not finished yet.

  • please, share it when finished!

    Thanks!

  • wow gr8 job. such a shame u didnt make 20 knots!

  • how do you collect the GPS data? Can you post the gps model? Thanks!

  • Perfect!!!!!

  • WOW. great idea showing GPS daata, but most of all great skill downwind in the gybes and through the waves.

    congrats

  • I really want to try a 49er someday...they look so awesome.

  • I have a hobie 16 sitting in the yard just waiting till next summer, this video makes me want to sail bad.

Im thinking of building a blo kart just for winter time.

  • nice idea.
